Mixed with explosive action, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare also delivers special effects, including use of depth of field, rim-lighting, character self-shadowing, real time post-processing, texture streaming as well as physics-enabled effects. Infinity Ward deployed a dedicated team from the start to deliver a new level of depth to multiplayer. Building on the hit "Call of Duty 2" online experience, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's new multiplayer provides the community an addictive and accessible experience to gamers of all levels. 1. Start to finish, online or off, Call of Duty 4 is solid gold. Some might decry the single-player’s short length or that it’s more of the same, but its amazing quality and the Arcade mode...more than make up for it. Infinity Ward has delivered on every front, and there is no question in my mind that this is the best action shooter that I have ever played.
  2. Come for the engrossing single player campaign, stay for the addicting multiplayer.
  3. An intense gaming experience from start to finish. The story is conveyed much better than the average FPS, the gameplay is varied enough to stay fresh, the graphics and sound both deliver, and the multiplayer is addictive.
  4. Call of Duty 4 is a great online shooter, and welcome competition to both Counter-Strike: Source and Battlefield 2. The single player campaign is everything you can expect from a Call of Duty game and then some.
  5. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare may be relatively short with just six to seven hours playing time, but thanks to the brilliant staging those hours are the most impressive ones we've experienced with any action game yet.
  6. If Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare had a longer single player campaign our score would have been even higher. As it stands Infinity Ward's latest game still is worth the money to buy and experience for yourself.

Infinity Ward has mastered a formula of its own making for both single- and multiplayer combat; Call of Duty 4 is louder, better looking, and more chaotic than ever. But it's certainly a formula, one that becomes more transparent with each version.

Definitely game of the year with the intense action and capturing realism at a modest system requirement. Best looking DX9 game so far. Ever wonder why Call of Duty is so famous? Here's your answer. For every single Ghosts or Modern Warfare 3 that this franchise spews out,Ever wonder why Call of Duty is so famous? Here's your answer. For every single Ghosts or Modern Warfare 3 that this franchise spews out, this, (arguably) it's direct sequel and Black Ops will tower above the rest of the mediocrities. But this title in particular.

Okay let's begin with the campaign. One of the most unusual things about Modern Warfare (especially in comparison to the many games that followed) is that the SAS team in this game actually feel like a SAS team, not a bunch of trigger happy loonies. Although there are exceptions where the game falls apart in this regard (the mission 'Heat' comes to mind). This is also the Call of Duty game which created some of the most memorable set-pieces and levels of all time, such as the genuinely shocking 'Aftermath' and 'All Ghillied Up', which is still the tensest level I've ever played in a FPS. A lot of people ignore the campaigns in CoD (rightfully so, most of the time), but you will definitely want to play through this one.

Now, the multiplayer is iffy, as PunkBuster (this game's anti-cheat for PC) is no longer functional. You can still get multiplayer to work, but be warned in this regard. With that in mind, the multiplayer is still the name of the game for most people. Call of Duty multiplayer is still quite fun, and this game even has the benefit of being an older Call of Duty. Meaning there aren't as many screaming 'Xbox Live brats' as you would find in, say, Black Ops 2.

When it comes to the technical aspect of this game, it still looks decent for an early seventh-gen title. It also holds up decently well to other Call of Duty games, although this might be due to the lack of an engine change for the later titles.

On the whole, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has held up well, and continues to be the best thing to ever come from the Call of Duty franchise. While the newer entries are about as fun as getting a BJ from a methhead, this is still a shining example of how to do a Call of Duty game right.

So unbelievably average! There is NOTHING new about this game. It sure is good, but I don't understand the hype. Not one bit.
