  • Summary: "Chuck's Challenge 3D" is a puzzle game that walks through the evolution of gaming: move from A to B, collect items, the red key opens the red door, etc. But, like Lego, knowing what each piece does is only the beginning of the fun, as players can also create and share their own levels using a simple paint-style interface. Chuck's Challenge has finally made it to Steam, and the puzzles and mazes are better than ever. Chuck Sommerville and his team at Niffler have created the rare followup that not only does justice to the '80s classic, but improves upon it as well.

Chuck's Challenge is an enjoyable puzzle game and a worthy follow-up to Chip's Challenge, but some rough edges keep it away from greatness.

A puzzle game like many others, that falls victim of a messy PC port. It's got a lot of levels, but there are many better alternatives out there.

While the puzzle genre has certainly seen improvements over the many years, Chuck's Challenge is content with slapping on a coat of paint onto a 25 year old game, covering up what little charm the series and instead replacing it with tired level design wrapped in an uninspired package.

This is an excellent puzzle game from a grand master of game design.

I don't see that the PC port is messy, it looks, sounds and works just
fine. In fact I was impressed with the clean interface, and the graphics on "fantastic" are more than shiny enough. The game has a nice built-in editor, and we can play levels shared on the net, including a weekly challenge. The game has 97% approval on Steam, and deserves a better metascore. Highly recommended. Chuck's Challenge 3D definitely brings back the charm and puzzle design of the original Chip's Challenge. While it's not quite as good as the original, Chuck's Challenge 3D is definitely a lot of fun, and I'd say that it's definitely worth the $9.99 that I paid for it. It includes a level editor and custom puzzles can be shared with friends. There is also a weekly featured puzzle that is created by the community.

The interface feels a little clunky, clearly designed for mobile first, but that doesn't mean that it's a bad PC port. The puzzles are fun, the game performs well, and I have fun with it.

It doesn't appear to support Steam Cloud, meaning that levels that I complete on my laptop won't be synced to my desktop and other computers. This is sort of frustrating, but it's not a deal-breaker.

In all, it's fun, and I like it.
