  • Summary: Set in a gritty, high-tech world C&C utilizes electronic intelligence and covert surveillance to determine who reigns supreme. Join the forces of either the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) or the Brotherhood of Nod, and fight for what you feel is right. [Westwood]

  1. An adrenaline rush in a box...Everything about this game shouts quality.
  2. An awesome game, and exceptional fun. If you're a fan of "Dune II" or "Warcraft" then this one will be a winner.
  3. Playing the entire conflict in the role of the other side makes for twice the gameplay value, and I don't even want to think about what's going to happen when the six-player networkable version comes out. Highly, highly recommended.
  4. If you like strategy gaming, get Command & Conquer. [Nov 1995, p.108]
  5. This is such a fast paced game and there is so much action at any given time on the screen that keeping up could give you a slight case of carpal tunnel syndrome!

When I saw this in the metacritic top rated games of all time, I felt a wave of nostalgia. I remember spending hours on this game. Of course it did help that I was really into the army and action/military movies at the time so this helped to sate my great thirst for such media and experiences. The story was also quite ridiculous but interesting and cool. Father of all current RTS games, I would hazard to say. While subsequent iterations (and there are a lot of them) have been hits and misses, I do remember and highly praise the original C&C. Expand

C&C is the original gamers RTS. This game has great music and had excellent graphics for its day as well as an interesting story. this game is the model for today's strategy games. Expand

Cruel, merciless and untamed. That's how C&C started the RTS genre. This game--- sorry, I'll fix that, this LEGEND, made me scream harsh words so much, it unsettled the folks at home every time I played it. It was ruthless and tore apart players, who didn't think, very quickly. Ahh, the nostalgia of painful pleasure. Peace through power! Expand

This was the first computer game I ever bought and I was totally memorized with it--so it definitely has a special place in my heart. Judging it by the standards of its time, this game was revolutionary. While its gameplay and graphics feel very antiquated by today's standards (over 15 years later), it still boasts an amazing and memorable soundtrack and an interesting storyline which introduces one of the most badass villains in video game history. Now that this game is available as freeware with unofficial patches to get it running on modern computers, there's no excuse for not playing this classic game. Expand

Even now an enjoyable and fun RTS game with an interesting story, and great units. Command and conquer has some of the best aspects of what an RTS game should have and I find is a lot more fun than the command and conquers of today's time. The best thing about this game is that it required you a lot more to think about the mission and instead of striking straight on, you had to think more tactically unlike today's command and conquers where you seem to build a base build an army and destroy the enemy. All in all a great game that I would buy even today. Expand

The first C&C game that started the RTS genre became history to the fans of C&C but not for its gameplay, buggy AI, graphics and sound. It wasn't until C&C Red Alert that fixed most of the issues from the first C&C. Gameplay is difficult and unbalanced as well as lack of stereo sound and music. I never got to play this game until it went freeware several years ago which also had unofficial patches involving high resolution. The story and the FMVs were also boring that was just the beginning. Expand
