A touch that I particularly liked was the ability to delegate certain tasks to commanders who join your campaign at various stages. If you don't really want to spend ages establishing a base then it may be to your advantage to delegate this task to someone else, leaving you free to concentrate on attacking the enemy.
The units do not look as detailed as they did in "Ground Control" or "Earth 2150." Their design is simply too rough. On the other hand, their AI is literally brilliant.
Conflict Zone has a not-quite-finished feel and isn't likely to bring many new fans to the RTS genre. The AI, while impressive in some situations, isn't consistent throughout the game.
The biggest problem in Conflict Zone is map design...It results in tiresome strategies and predictable battles. [Holiday 2001, p.76]
Aside from the occasional slander and the slight slowing down of production, I didn’t quite get the feeling that the press was really all that interesting a factor.
When the first wave of frustration passes, you'll realize that Conflict Zone is a subpar RTS game whose few good ideas just don't add up.
I prefer to spend my time playing games on my computer, not getting them to run. If that also describes you, stay away from Conflict Zone. [Mar 2002, p.92]
