This game can be fun if you want to take the time to build up your twitch reflexes. However, the hitboxes seem random. Valve could fix these issues if they took the time too. I've never been a game and didn't see at least one other person complaining about how screwy hitboxes tend to be. Yes, I realize lag can be part of the issue sometimes, but sometimes it's not. Valve needs to optimize the code, plan and simple. As far as the casual gamer is concerned, you may not enjoy this game. You have to spend a lot of time building up your twitch relfexes which is hard. The poorer players or the players who understand teamwork tend to die first, often feeling unsatisfied. Annoying and Boring as hell. Now at first when I played this game I was getting killed by every single player on the server. After dieing about 12 times I realised something. That this sucked erect monkey scrotum. Even if I was sad enough to waste at least 3 months learning how to get good at this it would still be boring as hell. I tryed out the bots aswell and they were ok I guess but still boring as hell. And then I discovered the custom maps and how awfully made they were. And its obvious that valve didnt spend to much work on the v_models because you could see right fucking through them. I cant belive I wasted 14,99€ on this dog shit. It's fast-paced and a little goofy, but it's also very tactical and teamwork based. The learning curve is very steep (the maps are easy to learn, but the shooting system is hard to perfect). I got this game a while ago when it was ony $5, it was my first cs game, and it wasnt even worth $5. I have since then moved over to cs 1.6, and im glad i did. CS:S is just... no.CS:S..... this game is too easy, too boring, too stupid, and too child filled. it has less recoil, ESPECIALLY on the m4, resulting in that gun being OP, the maps are smaller in height, the player models are larger, the hitboxes are easier, and its just pathetic. the maps are just eye candy, and physics... i like the physics, but they scatter the most random **** around the map to get the point across taht there is a physics engine, and instead of being something cool or interesting, they just get in your way and annoy the **** out of you. the gameplay is boring, the game is easy, its filled with kids, and the game just bombs its legendary background from 1.6. this really was an uneccesary "downgrade" to an already perfect game. it couldve been half decent like dod:s, but it isnt. A community that is a cancer to all other video game communities: rampant racism, profanity, gay-bashing, and grotesque celebration of recently aquired cursing skills all lead to a gameplay experience equivilant to riding in the back of a Jr. Highschool bus. This game is OK for casual players, but if you are competitive than it is a total waste as Counter-Strike 1.6 is where most of the community is still at. There are many bugs in Source that make it impossible to play competitively for the most part, one of them being the ability to block a door with a gun, or prevent a bomb defusal with a a defuse kit. Sound weird? Yeah, that's because it is. It's ok if you want to pub around and just want to have fun. But in terms of being a "port to the HL2 engine," it fails miserably. When I first bought Counter Strike Source I remembered all the times that my friends demanded that I try it. Once I did buy it I discovered that it is amazing! While it has a steep learning curve, and I still want an offline mode, I can't stop playing it! It's extremely realistic, with it showing how vulnerable we humans truly are unlike games like Modern Warfare 2 where you seem to be bulletproof at times. In my first CSS game ever, I played de_dust alongside a bunch of people who've been playing for years and while I felt completely out of my league, I never felt useless. I used to play the CS 1.6, but after a major problem in my pc, I had to reformat, and just after that I realized I had lost my cd-key. Went down to a mall and after complaining a lot abou the key, the guy at the store placed me to play this. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! You can't go back to 1.6 after this one!! Better graphics, better game play, valve physics are amazing!!!

The sad part is people think this gameplay is at all practical. The fans of it are so die hard that if you suggested anything else they insult you rather than considering the possibility that Counter-Strike isn't the only game on the planet. Zero points couse steam. i have spending time two days, try to setup steam and css. First, i had to format my all hard drives couse steam´s updating system not workin at all... i have high speed internet connecton (800 kb/s), still steam downloading css updates only about 5 - 6 kb/s. Why, why... i´m so angry... fucking steam, great css, even i cannot play css, couse steam... !!!

There's literally hundreds of game-modes to play due to the huge community of the game. The community for this game is also fantastic and the amount of user made content is just insane, anyone can download their map making tool, watch some YouTube tutorials and make their own custom content. Although the game is very punishing to new players, I'd say it's one of the hardest FPS' to play, but once you've played this game for a while, you can pretty much pick up any other FPS. Undisputedly solid gaemplay mechanics, controls and strategy. Plenty of modded servers online as well as offline bots. What fascinates me is how the actual game itself- the round based gameplay- gets boring too quickly. Everything becomes too predictable because the maps are so linear. I spent barely any time playing the actual game and more time exploring mods and deathmatches and new maps. Of course there are plenty of intense moments but even if this is the case, there's never anything new. You've seen everything there is to see before the gmae starts. Yes it's a good thing so that inexpereinced players can jump in and play, but I feel that with the recent updates Valve could have added new game modes instead of just adding achievements, stats tracking (a bit late for that after 6 years the game had been out) and the updated game engine. To really enjoy this game how it should be played you need to either play at a LAN party with people you know just for fun or if you play online make sure you're on a decent server. There's so many intolerant players that are arrogant and have no respect for newcomers. What's most difficult is finding servers to suit your ksill level. One full of noobs becomes boring, as does getting headshotted immediately by pros who shoot at the floor with AK47 and somehow kill you. It's definitely not a game that you just go out, buy, play and enjoy.… Expand

There is something for everyone in this game, unique mods/modes, different maps, and it's a blast to play with your friends or alone in a zombie server! Released in 2004, this game is still popular and strong as ever. Sometimes you just find yourself needing a quick fix of some CSS.

If you hate CS:S, it's because you love CS 1.6. If you hate CS, it's because you play CoD. But anyway, there are good things, and bad things about this game. First of all, the game's concept is good. The fact that when you die, you don't respawn, make it slightly more realistic. The game's concept hasn't changed at all since CS 1.6, which I am really glad of. I'm glad that Valve decided not to put in a cheesy story mode into a game that is meant to be for multiplayer, and perfecting your reflexes. However, this game can get horribly buggy at times. Reason? Well, sometimes you are right in front of your opponent, and shooting them heaps of times, but the game thinks that the bullets missed and the opponent doesn't lose HP, and they realise you're there and shoot you and you die. This happens to me about 20% of the time. Now if you thought that was bad, there's more. There has been an update to CS to try and make the AWP 'less overpowered', and sometimes, like written above, you shoot the opponent, what used to be a one-hit kill, became a miss. Quick-scoping screws up the accuracy, only scoping once screws up the accuracy, and when you miss, it's almost as if the game is screwing with you, and it makes you rage most of the time. However, overall, this game is very fun to come back to every now and then, and the CS franchise probably won't be ending any time soon (hoping that CS:GO won't be disappointing). As for the price, it could be a little overpriced. I got it on a sale, for $5, which is definitely worth it, but since the regular CS game can get a little boring without any kinds of mods, I reckon $10 or $15 is more of a reasonable price. The achievements are fun to get, though some of them can take a while (example: Kill 1000 people with the awp, or example: kill 10,000 enemies). I hate how in games like this, many of the achievements are to kill a whole tonne of enemies. Despite everything that I have said above, I would still recommend this game for everyone except people who hate FPSes. All CS needs now is a CS 2.0. That is what the CS franchise is lacking at the moment.… Expand

Although this game is not newbie friendly, for the community that has been involved CS since the Betas of the original counter-strike this game is a blast. The most fun I have ever had with a first person shooter. Sure it sucks to wait every round if you die early but this just gives you an incentive to practice and get better so it is not you who has to wait the whole round. The learning curve is not too bad but not too easy. The graphics and physics are nice. The hit boxes could be better but all that can be fixed and adjusted with rates. i got counter strike source because it was recommend by a friend and he really wanted me to have this game he gave me a 50 % voucher for it so i got it. when i tired a normal server i rage quited so quickly because it is mainly search and destroy which if fine unless you just get flashed banged 50 times a round. then i found the light at the end of the tunnel. it had a team deathmatch server which is better but it has no total score limit, it is basicly who can spawn trap each other first. the other good server i found was a zombie server and this was very good because there was normal a big boss which would take a thousand bullets before it got bored and flew away. overall if there was no tdm or zombie servers i would rate it a 2 at the highest.… Expand

An ok game, a above average shooter, but since they removed all of the things like being able to shoot through walls, made every gun accurate and basically made it even more simple than it was, it lost "counter-strike" somewhere and became "CT vs T shooter". The extra physics are pointless (like the barrels that you "bounce" off) should be removed as they are pointless and just slow things down. ALso, the maps made of "glass" were in CS1.6 so you don't nede source to play them!. Still gets points for being a ok generic shooter… Expand

I have played cs 1.6 and the sparks looked like the game was meant for 7 or 8 year olds while css delivers to a wider range of age groups and gamers. People that complain about crappy frames should get a better comp. When this game first came out I was averaging 60, which is decent. Now I average around 100 and I have never really experienced any lag other then crappy servers. Only thing that keeps it from a 10 in my book is it is pretty much just a port with nicer graphics. We need more new stuff. I still love it though.

Many 1.6 fanboys will tell you that this game cannot compare to the likes of such a game- but they are highly mistaken. This is by far the best online shooter out there. Never before have I had so much fun playing a game. The graphics are stunning, the engine is super-realistc, and no one dislikes the feel of destroying a n00b and saying "GG UNINSTALL". This game is a must-have.

I've remember playing this game for the first time and that was in the middle of 1999, the year when this mod for HL1 was first released. It was already excellent back then. N7 yrs later, now with better technology, better graphics, it's still the most played online fps in the world.

This game is great for gamers who are ready for match after match of close in counter battles! Those who say it is too easy to kill and die are looking at it wrong, it makes it a bigger challenge to test your skills in first person shooters! And eventually you wont even notice the easy dieing because it is usally quik to start a new match and try again!

I do not know, what i have to think, instead of the fact, that "Steam" really ruins this game. As i bought this game, i was really happy to possess this game, i know CS, and i have seen a lot before the release. But, as i installed CS:S, the first thing i hate was Steam. After Install it first have to Update for more than 6 hours with 48KB/s (DSL-Lite User)... anyone think about the modem-user? After a long while i was able to play it and the next failure of this game, better said at "Steam", was the fact, that the player isn't able to switch to "Offline-Mode" manually by changing it in any menu. Instead of that, i really have to block my internet to play CS:S offline without lags or nasty pings, 'cause i do not have the best connection all day. (Trust me, even if you play alone against bots, CS:S works over the internet and you have to fight also against ping/lags). The only things, that could rescue CS:S for me: 1. A direct Download to an Updatepackage, so i do not have to update this game per steam every time i reinstall it. 2.It may be brilliant that at any day there is an Steamupdate, which adds a button to switch to Offline mode. So i do not have to disconnect to the Internet before playing CS:S... (or easily a normal LAN-Mode for CS:S, which automatically works outside of the I-net ;D)… Expand

I enjoy killing people on this game. it relieves mytension and stress of having to kill real life people, it great, you can shoot dudes, even your own team and you dont get in trouble from the police, you can plant bombs n blow stuff up, and the most the police will do is send out pesky counter terrosits to try to blow you to bits, but everyone knows you can just camp spawn at t's on dust 2 and own them all as they run through the door to the left of spawn. sweet game, i also enjoy hiding in the bushes in office and then jumping out and 1 shot killing the whole enemy team with the pump shotty.. or in the cabinnet thats sweet too... cheers… Expand

You can never grow tired of this game. If played with a group of friends/ a useful team/ a clan, there truely is no more rewarding online gaming experience. The graphics are good, (with great implamentation of HDR lighting in some maps) and the gameplay is fantastic. The game is very good if you're a good gamer ... But sometimes Steam can be very frustrating ! The graphics are OK but the gameplay is not perfect . You can't even jump on a crate of 1.5m ... So a tip for the buyers : buy it only if you have a perfect internet connection and if your fingers are very fast; if you wait a second in front of your enemy, you're dead....

Good game. HL2 engine makes it. Very little has actually been changed from 1.6, and what has changed isn't necessary better. Flashes are very poor from a competitive standpoint. Awp and Deagle have been made better comparatively when they were fine in 1.6 (surprise! everyone's favorite.) The character models are much more slugish when they run, and when they are shot, they are unphazed by it. Source is defintely one of the best games out there now, but could use just a bit of balancing that would make it a leagues above.… Expand

I love CS:S alot. The only downside I have ever had with the game is the fact you can not use iron sights. Other then that, levels are incredible, and very realistic. THe enviorment in the game is amazeing and just about everything you shoot, will react in its own way. Counter Strike is one of the worlds most popular games, CS:S is on its way to become everyones favorite

Good game, poor players. they constant bunny hopping and exploitive playing of most "players" of this game takes away any fun that may have been there for people with a life. the lack of realism is this games main downfall. and its main strong point for the people not skilled enough to play real FPS games

I am running this game 25/7... yea thats right... it gives my day an extra hr... best grapics i have seen in a while.... i havent slept in 2 days and thats how its been for a while now ... no sleep.... i would give it a 20 out of 10 but it wont let me LOL

I think some of the negative ratings on this site are rating the community rather than the actual game, but that's a bit to be expected. The game is pretty good, kind of hard to learn at first when you get shot down without ever moving, but once you get the hang of it the game is really interesting. I wish there were a single player story mode though.

Its just well done! I just love the quickness and the thrill playing css aswell as cs! imho handling is one of the most important aspects of gaming aswell as the sound. both are bad in to much games wich have potential. not so in css and cs and of cause hl2dm. JUST WELL DONE!

better than 1.6 for for one reason. physics. running in to defuse and seeing your buddy go flying into the wall because of an awp shot to the dome makes the experience so real and blood pumping. this game is an adrenaline rush unmatched by any shooter to date.

One of the best multiplayer game returns in a new way better version... The graphichs and the animation are the best for this type of game and the gameplay it's a bit easier than in cs 1.6...but it's a wrong thing because for some people the old Counter Strike was TOO much difficult...

Hm I enjoyed 1.6 quite a lot before eventually deciding to also purchase source so as play with a good friend of mine. When playing by myself I always find myself switching back to 1.6. It feel as if the old game has been raped. Why? There's nothing that's been improved from the smooth-running, skill-desiring 1.6 unless you like the new graphics (which I personally find horrendeous). In 1.6 I still consider myself a newbie after 4 years of play (I do work and have a social life) and get real excited when once in a while you have a great score.. i giver it 9 because the graphics r good but and the guns r good but the health is weird yes in real life one shot to head ur dead im glad they inclueded that but if u get shot in the leg u would fall or shot to the stomoch,they should of made if u get shot in the stomach u lose helath bit by bit as in ur losing blood but overall great online game.

Don't listen to the people who gave it 0s and 3s. This game has alot more amazing things than cs 1.6 or any other cs game. Levels are ALOT more detailed than the other version and less boxier. You can tell Valve spent a great deal on this. Hackers and cheaters/botters are rarely on because of admins and hosts. Headshots can be only made by a true marksman, hacker/botter, or by just pure luck. I love the snipers new zoom crosshairs because they seem clearer and easier to aim with (More life like). To close this up, get the game. Don't listen to the negatives, they are probably BIG n00bs that can't aim a F***ing ak and that blame it on hackers and botters. PS- those little kids are pretty good you will find, but they can get annoying time to time.… Expand

This game is pretty damn awesome. First off, the regular multiplayer maps (De_Dust, de_Inferno ECT.) are made very well. Another thing is the physics. The physics are extremely realistic, and if an admin doesn't like that they can easily make the physics like on a cartoon (You shoot a barrel and it flys till it hits a wall, lol.). The third thing is that if you don't like the regular game, you can always try"Surf" maps, where you slide on inclines and start with usually only a pistol (You get guns the further you go, I.E.: UMP45 if you only get 1/8th through, AWP if you get all the way through), Zombie Survival, which you have to utalize teamwork or you usually get rocked. You may say "BUT ZOMBERS ONLY HAS LOW HEALTH?". You are wrong; they have 2500 health (5000 for the starting one). There are still more modes, like DeathMatch and GunGame. The only problem I had with this game were the people with the ego the size of Betelguise (Really big star, for all of you who failed science ;D). They're the ones who usually ruin gameplay for me or other people. "Boom, HEADSHOT!"… Expand

This is definitley the best online FPS out there so far, the graphics are great, not the best but they are very good. The gameplay is awesome, and probably the most well-balanced FPS I've ever played. Sound is pretty good, about what you'd expect for this kind of FPS. I really have no complaints about the game, I've had a blast playing this for years, and will probably get a few more years of fun out of it still! This is one of Valves best Games out there, I personaly havnt played CS: 1.7 or CZ (Condition Zero), but I have seen what it looks like, and man am I glad to be on the uptodate one. I also like how life-like it is, when you use the awp or scout, (both sniper rifles), and get in to a sniper battle, it isnt like any other game where you just need to aim and shoot, you'll also need to have fast relfexis. I would deffenetly recomend this game to anyone out there, its an awsome game, and worth your money, but a real qucik heads up, you should atealst have a disent computer, and a good video card.… Expand

A pray and spray crapshoot. No real skill involved, and the tournament winners take stimulants to get their reactions going too fast. Also, anybody that can spray a P90 in-game wat head level wins the level, that is all there is to it. Do not waste your time on this game.

Its Just the best online shoot em up games i have ever played. The best bit for me about it is not the graphics and stunning maps but the voice. It means you can out of the blue just start a random chat with someone you have never met. Love the game and really hope Valve will do another installment

I mean that CS:S is one of the best Multiplayer Games, and its more REAL then CS 1.6 and all another Cs games. The weapons look more real too! But its one thing who do me little bit angry and that is all the skins you can download and the cheats!

Ditch realism and include physics with run 'n gun action and you have CS:S. This game runs really fast for how good it looks, as is expected of all Source games. You can have fun chattin with other people, but this game is great as long as you are having FUN. If you play just for a high kill-to-death ration, you will get stressed and probably call BS or Hax on every player who shoots you. In fact, some BS shots happens, to me and from me, which can make the game sorta fun. I am a realism buff, and as soon as I put the bunny hopping shotgun headshots and such aside this game became really fun. If you have a group of friends who play or join a clan then you get some really good memories made. For the price, this is one of the great bargain games of the modern world. The only thing preventing this from being a 10 is the fact that there are enough hackers to give anyone a headache, but they get banned quickly, and that you can get unlucky enough to discourage any person at times (lucky headshots taken in from a shotgun at 50 yards happened to me before) so just take a break when the game isn't fun.… Expand

A very solid shooter that has provided me endless hours of fun. Its not a game I've raved about then grown out-of, its a quality game that has always remained fun to play. Its easy to get the hang of but takes a lot of skill and practise to master, but doing so is definatly fun.

Counter-Strike: Source has to be one of the best online shooters ever. When you first start out you may be aggrivated or flat pissed off but give it some time to learn because once you do you get the joy to say " hahaha I pwned you noob!" Man I love this game!!! O and Lewis W., the only reason the game sux for you is because u just plain suck.

After reading all of the negative comments up to this point people seem to be complaing about the FPS (The game at the moment costs something like 20 USD at the most so at leat spend 100 dollars on a better computer or even better upgrade your computer bit by bit) , The fact that it is easier to shoot (People were probably complaing about the level of difficulty it is to shoot) and the fact that you can't shoot though walls ( How is this a bad thing? If someone had a wallhack the all they would have to do is stand behid a wall and kill everyone.) One last thing I saw in the comments is that there is 11/10 year olds running around swearing and shouting abuse you CAN mute them with take 30 seconds max and if you ask anybody on a server 9 times out of 10 they will tell you how.… Expand
