  • Summary: DARKSTAR provides hours of entertainment in both interactive adventure and cinema, and features the entire original cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and music by Progressive Sound and MetalWorx. This is also the final performance of the late, great Peter Graves. With more footage than any "game" ever produced (over 13 hours), DARKSTAR is a true interactive animated world with live-action actors. Expand

Get past the obtuse mechanics and there's a unique retro charm here. [Feb 2012, p.97]

Darkstar made me feel like a time traveler. It is as if at the end of the last century, fearing the "2K error" apocalypse, someone put this game in a capsule, and only now a team of archaeologists has unearthed these artifact CDs.

Whatever you do, don't go out and buy Darkstar: The Interactive Movie. It's one of the worst games we ever played.

  1. Plenty of eye & brain candy!!!

The devil is in the details & this game has got 'em! It was a smooth download & played beautifully. The guide
was easy to follow & use (I really suggest making it an instant companion piece to your game). It's visually stunning & the original score music will rock your socks off! If you're a "thumber", then it's not for you. But if you're a thinker & love the original crew of Mystery Science Theater, then it IS for you & then some!!! I'm not a gamer, but I navigated this ship just fine. Intrigue, deception & smart mouthed robots await. For $30, I had hours of visceral stimulation, clever scenarios & all the brain & eye candy I could handle. So,turn down the lights, turn up the music & see you on board! Expand

I'm not a gamer. Just getting that out there, because from a gaming perspective I haven't a clue what most seasoned gamers would prefer and frankly I don't really care. Not my medium. But from the perspective of any admirer of storytelling, Darkstar is a classic tale of redemption set to spectacular visuals, great acting, superb music, and a polished screenplay that works more as a film than as a game. It's also a labor of love put together by one single father from the middle of nowhere who had to deal with more **** to produce it than most people even realize. For that reason alone the game deserves a ten, but it's really something more than that. If you can tolerate adventure games, give Darkstar a shot. You won't regret it, not like these hateful critics would have you think. Expand
  3. Lots of effort, time, and money went into this project or so I read. This game reminds me of an interactive game I came across a while back when software were making their mark on pc. Darkstar is a gem among gems, an original with its rich story aka a time capsule. I have barely touched the surface and the interest is growing in anticipation. DTIM is definitely not for frag fest fans or strategy games I see flooded out there. It's about patience and intuition and decision making as the situation and events unfold in a much slower pace. Some believe this is Darkstar One and it isn't. More like a movie rather than a game in itself although very detailed and requires your attention to details to move forward with the story. That said, you are certainly the captain at the helm of this long and perilous adventure in search of the mystery as to why earth is no more and the murder of one of the spaceship's crew members of 4. The fate of mankind rests on your shoulders despite the fact that you remember nothing as a result from an extended cryogenic exposure. Darkstar is truly some work of art and not to be missed. Expand

    Atmosphere in spades
This game is taking me back to the late 90s, the golden era of adventure games (think Ripper, Black Dahlia, The Last Exp
ress, Blade Runner etc.). That also means that to get Darkstar work there is work to do, I won't lie to you there are bugs and things to watch out for. This is not some FPS from 2010 for sure. It is a labor of love and as such it should be cherished. Arm yourself with patience and the experience will make it worth it. Expand
