Players choose a role and tackle goal-oriented missions based on historical operations. Day of Defeat: Source takes the classic gameplay of the original Day of Defeat and improves the experience with Source, the advanced engine technology Valve created for "Half-Life 2." With this technology, DoD: Source offers state of the art graphics (including support for HDR lighting) in optimized versions of popular maps, plus redesigned sound and all new player, weapon, and world models. New features include: Completely updated maps to take full advantage of the Source engine replaces, integrated physics simulation for ragdolls and physically simulated objects, higher resolution textures throughout, bump mapping, specular lighting, and other graphic effects, all powered by advanced Source engine technology, completely redesigned user interface, all new voice, weapon, and ambient sounds. 1. Hearing bullets wiz past your head as you hear the crackle of machine gun fire in the background is something that I have yet to experience in any game.
  2. Every bit the great game its predecessor was, and then some.
  3. I think the new DoD has done the best job of utilizing the Source physics engine.
  4. In terms of scale, it barely comes up to Battlefield's ankles, and in terms of tactics and tension it can't beat Counter-Strike, but once you've spent a few hours on a server of 20 or so people, you'd have to want not to enjoy it to fail to - and your own war stories are an inevitable byproduct.
  5. Sound is what makes this game unique however. You’re made very aware of gunshots almost everywhere to varying degrees of loudness.
  6. When all's said and done, this is an old game - an excellent old game and a beautiful old game - but an old game nonetheless. But if you haven't played it before, now's a great time to do so. [PC Zone]

Taken with the limitations of only four maps, on which to play one game type, all too soon you can find yourself in a mechanical rut playing them over and over. And that's something that the original didn't suffer from.

Its not boring like CS because you don't have to wait long when you die, and the graphics and physics ROCK! I have bought the package: CS:S, DoD:S and DM:S. I just play DoD:S now because it's the best of the three. Expand

Best part about it is throwing their nades back at them an seein how many you can kill. Even more fun with Friendly Fire on and killing an enemy throwing a grenade and have them kill their own team from it. You know ya wanna buy it , go on , that's right , do it right now. Beware a of the Woody with primed nades.

Plus réel ke jamais, il nous plonge ds la réalité de la guerre ds des batailles a 32 ou 64 joueurs ! Seul point desavantageux : il manque une ou deux class player. Bref, DoD: S c'est la guerre ;) Expand

While most people are sick of, and/or gettting sick of World War II games, I cannot get enough of them. If I were to have to choose between While most people are sick of, and/or gettting sick of World War II games, I cannot get enough of them. If I were to have to choose between Counter-Strike: Source and this, I would pick this. If I were to pick between the singleplayer portions of Call of Duty 4 or Call of Duty: World at War, I would pick World at War. Same goes for Call of Duty's 2 and 3 (4 wins for multiplayer). The reason this doesnt get a 10 is because there is no singleplayer (it is a multiplayer game, so it's not that big of a deal) and because there isn't enough variety of weapons and armies compared to the original Day of Defeat Either way, I prefer this one to the original.
