  • Summary: The key to victory hinges on the defeat of island strongholds throughout the Pacific. To do this the U.S. army deploys specially trained soldiers to carryout commando-style attacks against the forces of Japan. From sweltering rainforests to sun-baked coral beaches and stinking mangrove swamps, players lead their squad of 12 skilled heroes on real missions with real consequences. Coordinate attacks, sneak into enemy villages, rescue captured POWs and more. Missions can be played single-handedly or jointly with friends over the Internet for cooperative play. 1. The environments, aside from being really large, are also very richly detailed and impressed the heck out of me.
  2. Without a doubt, the most revolutionary addition to the game is the inclusion of co-operative play.
  3. It's a little rough around the edges, but it's both exciting and technically impressive enough to hold its own against its full-priced competition.
  4. The game is most enjoyable for those who like sneaking up on enemy positions and sniping off the guards one by one.
  5. 72
A fun and open-ended tactical shooter marred by pathing issues.
  6. With its low price tag, it's definitely recommended for shooter fans with even an inkling of interest in WWII. [Mar 2003, p.103]
  7. The gameplay also is fun but can be a little cumbersome trying to remember all hotkeys. All in all the game is exceptionally fun and well worth playing.

This game is a decent time killer. The missions are somewhat varied, although I became tired of looking at jungle in the first few missions. The levels became more challenging and interesting as the game progressed. Each level starts with an briefing, and the voice actor here does a convincing job. When you switch between characters in the game, each has a catch phrase that he utters. This is cool the first hundred times I heard it, but since you'll be switch between characters thousands of times, it becomes tiresome and irritating. The graphics are adequate, not breathtaking. Audio is OK and fits the settings depicted in each level. My biggest complaint was the pathfinding. It was horrible, and even with the patch installed, the characters would get caught on rocks, trees, or any number of objects. Since they were stuck, I often walked hundreds of yards before I realized they weren't with the group. This meant that I would have to switch to the character, walk him up to the rest of the group. The computer players also have a tendency to fall off of cliffs, and in general, ran amok. If I hadn't been determined to play the entire game, I would have given up on it. But in the end, it turned out to be an OK game. If you can get it cheap ($5 or less), it might be worth picking up. Expand
