Its attention to detail, exciting gameplay, immersive graphics and wonderful soundtrack make the game a great buy.
I was particularly impressed with the polished depth and quality combined with the relatively low system requirements. That is a rarity these days.
This game isn't one you invest in for its looks: it's a smart and absorbing title that stands out from the "fantasy strategy" pack. [Sept 2003, p.75]
The new campaigns take advantage of a larger supported map size, allowing for longer and more complicated scenarios. [Oct 2003, p.117]
On its own merits, this expansion is a reasonably good deal, but it's best suited for the hard-core Disciples II fan who wishes to play every single official scenario for the game.
By and large, GotL just doesn’t bring enough to the table. The new missions are fun, but the fact that this expansion has been divided from it’s evil counterpart and the overall sense of the game actually being Disciples II Gold Edition 0.5 makes the game feel like a jip when you can get so much more out of the original Disciples II for a fraction of the cost.
Teases more than pleases. It feels like half of what a good expansion should be, but at the same time is a great buy for those new to the series.
