Everything we loved about old RPGs in a complete, modern package. It's hard, it's well thought out, there's tons of options and most importantly, tons of fun. [Issue#244]

Embrace the lack of handholding and complete freedom, and you have an incredible title that provides many hours of entertainment.

An amazing RPG experience. It falls a bit flat on characterization and writing on occasion, but nails just about everything else. It does a great job of compelling players to roleplay their on-screen characters, putting the "RP" back into RPG.

Relatively small Larian Studios finally managed to deliver a really significant game. Original Sin is brimming with ideas on how to bring back old school RPG vibe and make it fit modern times. [Sept 2014, p.50]

It feels like there’s a very good game inside Divinity: Original Sin, but it’s hidden away behind a thousand glitches and gameplay problems.

This game has honestly blown away the expectations I had for it. Its an excellent blend of hardcore features, no hand holding and excellent combat based on a classic RPG rule set. It is punishing in the right ways and rewards thinking and effort.

Honestly with games like Skyrim and other RPGs being so linear and simple (albeit looking very nice) a game like this is a breath of fresh air to the genre. Hopefully it will inspire other developers to create good challenging RPGs for the PC in the future.

Everything in the game is pretty finely tuned, but what I liked more are : 1) the ability to mix magic spells with the surrounding landscape (i.e. setting fire in oil or electrocuting water ponds). 2) the dialogue and text details in everything around you 3) the difficulty of some battles. All in all, for me it was a cool bomb for the summer ! Expand

The time detail and attention that has gone into this game is amazing it puts to shame the pretty but sadly mass produced rpgs we have be fed the last few years.

I had a LOT fun playing it. The most amazing thing is this game delivers what it promises in a high quality and the developers really pay attention to detail. Anyway, if you're fan of old-school RPG, definitely buy this one. It's honestly too cheap considering its such high quality. Expand

You're gonna find yourself spending hours running quests and dialogues before you even leave the first town. Yep, it's an old school Baldur's Gate type of game with Fallout's turn based combat.
Combat tends to be very messy if you don't have a strategy and is also pretty difficult, excepting the tutorial areas ofcourse. Also if the enemies are even 1 level higher than your party, you're likely to get your ass whooped, especially if you're fighting a group of such enemies.

Money is very easy to make in the game, as you can basically go into the rich people's mansions and robe them blind while you distract them with a party member and then switch to another and sneak around picking paintings off the walls and gold/silver stuff from around the house. It's easy to not get caught. Not to mention you will find some very good weapons and armor in some chests. I left the first town after I bought the best equipment that vendors had.

Melee characters seem to have the role of meatshields while the real damage and utility is possessed by wizards. It's probably very much possible to play an all wizard party with some summons to act as meatshields. Not sure I like that.

One thing I noticed is that the music is rehashed from other Larian games. Noticed music parts from Divine Divinity and Divinity 2.

If you play solo make sure to assign an AI personality to one of the two characters, usually the one you don't consider as playing your part, otherwise you're gonna have to manually select dialogue options for both characters and talking to yourself during dialogues is kinda weird. :D

Honorouble try for catching the wind of the classics but i do not expect anything from a game that does not respect itself or even the genre it is supposed to belong. You think childish design which assumes leaving players dark in a universe where not a single f.ck could be given is supposed to be the way to go for resurrecting classics ? Go back to drawing board and start by respecting the genre and the people who will play in it. Expand
