Dungeon Fighter Online surpassed my expectations by far. I started playing back in beta and there were many issues, so I had to quit for a while. my friends recently got me to return to check out the new character awakenings and dungeons. Many of the bugs that I saw in beta have been fixed, like the pvp and party lag. Even though this game gets pegged as a simple side scroller, arcade game, it is much more than that. Everything from the character skill tree to the pvp gameplay keeps me coming back for more. The best part about this game? It is totally free. After leveling my female gunner up to 60, and now with the awakenings added, I quit wow and I dont see myself ever going back because DFO rocks!!! Expand

The game itself is very fun. Unfortunately, the companies poor handling of its user-base ruins the experience entirely. I played the game for a week and a half, and tried to participate in one of their special events. I was unabel to complete the event and claim my prize however because the required items would repeatedly vanish from my inventory each day without warning, were obtained ONLY by a daily repeatable quest, and 10 were required. Changing "channels" which grants an experience bonus for specific dungeons or logging out would remove the items from my inventory. Some items have an expiration date, but these items listed no date. They simply vanished. Even trying to stay logged in and avoid changing channels was not an option - the required item still vanished after 24hrs. Since according to everyone I spoke to this was abnormal, no online guides mentioned any disappearance of the items, and plenty of other peopel were walking about town with the reward, I filed a support ticket. On the support ticket page you can see its status which even goes so far as to indicate whether or not any staff member has read it yet. It was up for a week without being read, let alone responded to. The event ended. Even if someone from support answers the ticket now it will be to inform me the event is over with. There are no in game ways to contact a GM that I can find. Its really a shame, this is a very good game. Especially for one driven by micro transactions. And surprisingly you can have a lot of fun without resorting to the cash shop/item mall part of the design. 1 minor annoyance is that you aren't warned up front that PvP will be a requirement rather than an option. While you aren't outright forced to PvP you need points from it to buy gear in game, and to upgrade your class. Without participating in PvP your character will be disadvantaged stat wise. You can gain these points even if you lose, but who wants to grind out 400 losses if you aren't good at and don't like the PvP aspect of the game, not to mention the laughs you'll get at your crappy win/loss record that from what I can tell can't be hidden. I'm not really into PvP but still would have given this game a 9 out of 10 if Nexon were better at taking care of their customers. They really soured the game for me. Bugs like that should be found before launch, and support should have replied within 48 hours. Expand

This arcade fighting game has excellent artwork, enough competition edge to keep players in the pvp room, the system and game play is simply awesome, and to top it all off it is FREE! Who doesn't like arcade beat 'em up games especially for those of us who has been exposed to the Capcom vs Marvel or Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time? Dungeon Fighter Online took a risk by releasing the game in US; knowing they will be up against other big MMO games on the market such as World of Warcraft, but they disregard the graphic and concentrated on the artwork which created this pure arcade fighting style (this is also what I am most impressed by the game). With 5 main classes (Slayer, Fighter, Gunner, Mage, and Priest) with multiple sub-classes under them, the game just created enough characters and classes for people to choose in preference to their playing style. Furthermore, it is impressive how the game was also able to distinguished each classes to make sure they all work in different ways with their own advantages and disadvantages. Despite the fact many complaints this made the game in pvp unbalanced, the characters actually balanced each other out and you could win depending on how well you can use your character. As far as competition goes, even though some characters should be fixed and restricted like what they have already done to the Summoners, everyone has a chance to whack out your opponent depending on how well you could execute and utilize your character's skills. There are of course some "cheap classes," such as mechanics and summoners who could easily spam robots/monsters; however, this is fine because it is a good way to introduce arcade fighting game to younger audience who are in this generation where there are just not enough good old classic beat 'em up arcade games. Whereas there are other classes that are much more difficult to use, but they are unpopular to most users so it is good to have those "n00b friendly" classes out (plus, they are extremely fun to play with when you want a break from competition and when you feel the dungeon is getting repetitive). Now let’s talk about some down side of this game. Well, first thing is that the developers don't seem to care enough for the game to actually make it awesome. Times to time you'll find the customer support ridiculous; I remember I messed up the GOBLIN PAD feature they have on the game so I filed a ticked, basically after 3 hr. I searched up Google and forums and find out that other users never got reply even after 24 hr. or even a week, so I just created new account instead (GOBLIN PAD is 4 numerical security system that will activate during the game, make sure you don't screw it up or just turn it off since if you forgot your password it will lock your game up forever). There's even some rare cases that players' avatar item would get deleted due to bugs and errors, and avatars costs REAL MONEY. Overall I would highly suggest to not even purchasing the NX points unless you do have some extra cash lying around. With NX point you could purchase avatar items (which players will sell them on the market for the virtual currency the game uses anyways), but the avatar items are completely random. Also NX pt. could be used for Skill Point reset (if you mess up your character's skill build; and if you don't understand just use this website: http://www.aradsociety.com/planner/?class=grappler and find out about it later) setting up a shop, some recovery items; however, over all it is not worth it in my opinion. This game was made originally in Korea, so the good news is that this game will have many more update implemented later on. On one hand yes, this game is not finished yet; on the other hand hooray since you still got a good chance to catch up and wait for the additional updates with other experienced players. The social opportunity in this game is rather poor. There should be a guild system coming up (*seeing that the Korean version has it) but it's not here yet. And there are just enough bots placed on various locations to make you want to turn off the public (general) chat and switch to private; and Nexon really should force them to go somewhere else that will not disrupt the players especially around the gate entering the dungeon where players may need to call out to form the party, trade, or whatever they would need to do. Overall, this game is definitely worth playing with tons of replay value. Personally I found this game more enjoyable than World of Warcraft since I love Arcade Fighting games such as Marvel vs Capcom; and most importantly again is that this game is absolutely free unless you want additional benefits. For those of you who have not played the game and are actually patient (or just bored) enough to read all my ranting why don't you try the game out since this comment probably already took at least 3 min. of your life already? This game is, for real, the best beat em up that has ever been made. It takes all the things that are fun things about wow and puts them in what is in imo, the best fighting, brawler engine. I stopped playing Halo, cause XBox 360 is 10 bucks a month now(!!!) and play DFO for f-r-e-e! No money down, smashing everyone with my priest. i don't want to sound like an advertisement, but this game is the tightes around! Expand

Despite the dated formula of this title, Dungeon Fighter Online stands out thanks to its excellent two-dimensional graphics and its rich and distinguishing gameplay.
  2. Though not as slick or elegant as the classics it emulates, Dungeon Fighter Online is absolutely worth downloading, even if you only drop in for half an hour a day. The game's cash shop items are certainly useful, but you'll never have to spend a penny on DFO. Call a friend, smash some goblins, unlock new 2D fighting skills.

I am absolutely shocked that such a potentially award-winning game falls short in so many ways. The core is there. The gameplay is there. If Nexon cared a bit more about the quality of the experience, this game would have lasting power.
