Dungeons of Dredmor's voluminous depths are littered with an abundance of wacky treasure to horde and enticing weaponry to cleaving all sorts of evil beasties in twain with.

Dungeons of Dredmor is a solid success in those terms, and easily exceeds expectations for its five-dollar price tag.

It's mean-spirited, dizzyingly deep, and snarkily nostalgic all at once - and those are just the skills and attributes I look for in a roguelike.

Dungeons of Dredmor is a good roguelike game that deserve a try, despite some interface flaws. It's easy to play, but hard to master.

I'm quite taken with this roguelike; it feels like a game that came out of nowhere and hits all of the dungeon-crawl buttons -- steep challenge, lots of loots, and a ton of monsters. Throw in its humor and soundtrack and you've got a roguelike that should appeal to anyone who likes a good dungeon-crawl.

    Well-formed and horribly addictive. [Nov 2011, p.75]

There is a truly massive amount of game here for the $5 asking price, and Gaslamp Games has clearly set Dredmor apart from the crowd. If you've ever felt the need to crawl a dungeon, this one is most definitely for you, as it serves as both an excellent "my first roguelike" and a challenging quest for the experienced spelunker.

Gaslamp Games has produced a modern version of roguelike. Although the game is blessed with comical graphics instead of typography, the mechanics under the hood remain the same from the Nethack era. The game is really, really unfair, but at the same time it is strangely addictive. [Sept 2011]

A fun game, especially for rogue-like veterans, who will get its dry British wit and genre in-jokes. The game is basically the next generation of the true rogue-like, much like Fatal Labyrinth was before it.

There are also more than enough different monsters and items, as well as a clever sense of humor that manifests in unique stat names like "caddishness."

You'll laugh, you'll die, and you'll come back for more. [Nov 2011, p.62]

Dungeons of Dredmor makes you respect death, where many games simply laugh in its face.

    Fantastically fun and tight design.

Don't spend your hard earned on money on a game from developer who doesn't value their customer's time. This game is horribly buggy. You will lose your first character from a bug more likely than an actual death. You might try a second time on the default "permadeath" mode until you encounter yet more bugs and vanishing saves, rendering your 10, 20+ hours invested a total waste. At this point you might turn off permadeath so you can reload but then Gaslamp will release an *update* (1.02 to 1.03) that invalidates your saves and forces you throw yet another 10-20+ hour investment down the drain because they were too lazy to write an old save to new save conversion routine. Then they give you an achievement to joke about wasting your time. From their blog post about the 1.03 update: "Your old save games from Dredmor 1.02 almost certainly do not work with Dredmor 1.03. We apologize for the inconvenience. Iâ Full Review »

Insane amount of game for such a low price, fantastic levelling system and randomised dungeons means every play through is different, and a vast amount of items and enemies encourages you to explore. Occasional bug can force a restart, but nothing game breaking, and constant updates means it should be near enough bug free soon. Full Review »
