Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon (EDF) is a third-person co-operative shooter that can be played with up to 3 players or bots. Each level consists of several stages where the main objective is shooting gigantic bugs from space and moving from A to B through city blocks that can usually be levelled. The players are fenced in by invisible walls but at the end of a stage, these are usually shifted to allow the game to progress. Players gain experience ("credits") by killing the invaders and if enough credits are acquired the player automatically levels up, unlocking new abilities and the authorization to use more powerful weapons. New weapons can also be acquired with these credits, these weapons are usually found in the game itself. There are 4 different classes ("suits"); scout, tank, summoner and trooper. The scout is fast, agile and comes with a jetpack; the tank is very slow but has powerful defensive abilities; the summoner has access to turrets, mines and a radar and the trooper has access to a lot of destructive weaponry but no special abilities. Shooting the bugs is a lot fun and the controls are fluent. It is recommended that you start the game on "hard" if you're familiar with third-person shooters (TPS) because "normal" is far too easy. Inferno can be quite a challenge and it might require you and your team to do a few missions again to grind for more credits. If you enjoy shooting gigantic bugs with friends and tweaking outfits, EDF is your game. It does feel like the end is rushed as the story just ends, paying absolutely no mind to the circumstances the player finds himself in. This was possibly done to accomodate future titles but it also makes the game feel rushed once you do finish it. Expand

I can't give it any higher than 7, It is fun but lacks the level difference from the original. The story is crap. The fact that there are 4 classes and many weapons is a HUGE improvement. The frantic fighting is awesome. This is a friend game though, so don't play without friends

I want to be charitable as this is an indie game and it isnt terrible and it didnt have any of the huge bugs many releases do these days. But personally, I found it extremely boring.

Its pretty good killing huge bosses the list goes on :)
Its really an avarage game, but it has major drawback like the Graphics looks bad, the gun sounds sounds cheap.

And it feels cheap so i would say like a 5.9

An over the top, incredibly satisfying shooter. It's not very complex or deep, but it certainly delivers on enjoyment. The armors provide a nice array of choices for players who want to be nimble or powerful, and they're balanced well enough for a PvE game. The weapon system is done well, with incentive to replay levels to unlock new gear. The story is nothing spectacular, but that doesn'tAn over the top, incredibly satisfying shooter. Overall a great shooter well worth the cost--and I've bought it on two systems. Collapse

The guiltiest of pleasures. Indulge yourself and a few friends, but go read a book afterwards or something. [March 2012, p.62]

A frenetic, old fashioned monster blaster best played with friends. Creepy-crawlyphobes, look elsewhere.

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is an archaic, explosive and entertaining experience that deserves to be played. It's a great way to unwind after a long and tiresome day, and the co-op and character classes should appeal to whatever niche audience it may attract – while it's short and lacks variety in just about every department, it still deserves a few hours of your free time, provided you find yourself in the right mindset while playing it.
