  • Summary: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars pits the armies of Earth against the invading alien Strogg in the ultimate online strategic shooter. Featuring strategic team play, persistent character promotions, day and nighttime combat missions, and the universe's most powerful weapons and vehicles, the game transports players to the front lines of an epic new war for Earth. As the invasion begins, players choose to battle as one of five unique classes in either the EDF (Earth Defense Force - humans) or the barbaric alien Strogg armies, each augmented with specialist weapons and combat hardware. Troops utilize over 40 conventional and futuristic vehicles, deployable structures, and defense systems like quad-bikes, tanks, and alien walkers for epic ground assaults; or helicopters and anti-gravity ships to lend firepower from the air. Throughout each battle, teams establish bases, deploy defense structures, artillery, radar, and advanced forward-command systems into enemy territory while constructing and demolishing obstacles to speed progress and gain a tactical advantage over the enemy. Players can take on class specific missions or join a fireteam to utilize advanced command and communication options, including voice-chat and the game's context sensitive mission order system. With bitterly contested multi-battle campaigns, each soldier fights not only for victory, but to gain valuable skills, special rewards for team-play, and persistent military promotions and medals. The enormous, epic battles, the variety of classes, weapons, upgrades and the stacking mission objectives for each map will have you enjoying the game for quite a long while.
  2. They've taken id's gorgeous Doom 3 engine and used it to create vast intricate playgrounds for fast and frantic battles between humans and cybernetic alien invaders. Quake Wars are on!
  3. There’s no doubt that Quake Wars is a good deal of fun to play, and that counts for a lot, but in terms of winning and losing, it’s clear that the onus is primarily on the defending side to get and stay organised, as only then will the attackers need to do the same.
  4. For the casual player however, the original campaigns remain the most attractive, because of user-friendliness and server popularity.
  5. No other combat game has maps this lavish, or ambitiously designed. [Nov 2007, p.88]
  6. ETQW delivers plenty of fast-paced action, and nothing beats the feeling of finally breaking through firmly entrenched defenses. It's not the absolute best multiplayer game, but it's definitely worth playing.
  7. Quake Wars is that odd girl you find at the bar at eleven o'clock on a Saturday night. She may look like a repressed librarian, but when you've drunk enough to stop caring about how she looks, she'll take you along for the ride of your life.

Ok so its 5 years later and Quake Wars is still, in my opinion, one of the most original, solid team based shooters on the PC. Team work is REQUIRED to complete objectives and teams that dont cooperate really stand out from the crowd. If I had to complain about something it would be that there are slight imbalances between strogg and GDF classes, but this is realistic as both sides are asymmetrical in how they play, which makes for an awesomely fresh experience and brings diversity and replayability to the experience. Servers are still going but arnt set ablaze anymore, I highly recommend picking up a copy if you enjoy squad based games such as the Battlefield series, only set within the Quake Universe with a dash of humor. This is the best buy i've done since i bought Half-life 1 (to get cs ;)), the gameplay is amazingly versatile. I keep on finding new spots to camp, finding new tactics and new things to have fun with ingame (mines on vehicles ftw :P). 20 Hours played and rising :) Expand

Graphics are great. You don't need a super computer to get decent framerates with high detail. The maps are really well laid out and offer a variety of terrain and senery. Goals based play is fun and gives more depth than the standard, deathmatch, team deathmatch, and CTF. My only complaint is that you lose your unlockables after the "campain" is over so you end up starting all over again with the unlocables in the next series of matches. Huge negative imo. Sone people have compared this to BF 2142, but think it's better than BF because getting the unlocks in BF takes forever to get unless you are a stat padding noob and set up matches strickly to headsot one another to get the unlockables in a decent time frame (many gamers can't devot 6 hours a day to gaming to gain that tatical edge). I'd give this game a ten if you could keep your unlockables. Expand
