Oh come on. A bunch of whining 14yr olds. When they realized that Far Cry 2 has almost nothing to do with Far Cry 1, they decided that they hate it, then they tried to look for every fault in the game to back up their opinion. I never played Far Cry 1, so I'm unbiased. Far Cry 2 is an amazing game in its own right. Are there problems? Sure. A few minor ones (por exemplo, guards shouldn't respawn so quickly, and why can I carry Ak47 and Rocket Launcher, but not Ak47 and Sniper Rifle?). But a fair-minded gamer comes to this game and says WOW. The Meta-critic score is higher than the User Score because, unlike 14yr old Far Cry 1 fanboys, professional critics know how to give nuanced reviews and scores that don't drop down to zero the instant a fault is found. This game managed to put me off completely in a few hours. Game has looks, but instanly respawning enemies and magically appearing enemy jeeps are complete fun breakers. Hours of driving around and killing the same people all over again is no fun. Don't forget sophisticated storyline which basically means whole Africa wants to kill you on sight. I love the nonlinear gameplay and open world, but this one sucks a lot. Far Cry brand should be left in Crytek's hands I guess.… Expand

Its not a dire game so much as incredibly frustrating that so much that could have been there is just left out. And for no reason. How much effort would it have taken to have included a story, not even a good one, just any form. Or some characters. Or a few decent set pieces. The game amounts to driving (a lot) shooting some mercenaries and driving some more. repeat that for as long as it takes you to get bored. I am honestly surprised by the low user ratings for this game. I guess it just isnt for most people, but I love it. If you are expecting a set-piece, cinematic, story based shooter, this is not for you at all. Instead, you are dropped in the middle of a beautifully rendered Africa with the freedom to tackle a variety of missions as you choose. The gameplay reminds me to Grand theft Auto, a comparison I'm surprised more people havent made. Yes, pretty much everyone will attack you, but it is a shooter. Most people also complain about the long travelling times, and the repeated guard post attacks. The guard posts are a small minus for me, mainly because of how they instantly respawn when you go just about 100 feet or so away from it. But the travel is actually fun for me, and if it really takes you too long then you obviously should only be playing scripted, linear games where the next predictable objective is always directly planted right in front of your face. No, Far Cry 2 is for those of us who actually want to live and breathe our character in his setting. Yeah, the story could be better, but the varitey of weapons and different ways you can tackle missions make it really fun. I do wish stealth was easier too, you cant really sneak around compounds knifing people in the back ninja style, but you can use stealth to bypass guard posts, especially at night. Probably the second best game of 2008 after Fallout 3. Completely immersive and way fun. The AI is a little bit psychic at times and you definitely don't want to run and gun your way down the road because you end up fighting jeep and outpost after jeep and outpost...but if you slow down and play a little bit stealthy this game really opens itself up to you. Overall I'd recommend it!

Well after going through the posts one thing is clear...if you expected this to be exactly the same as Far Cry 1 - (expectations will always lead to disappointment in life in any endeavor - you kids will eventually learn this), then you will likely be disappointed. It's different, but just because a few whiners think different is bad so doesn't make it true. I played very little of the first game, had no expectations for this one, and was thoroughly delighted. AI is decent, Fights are fun and intense, flame thrower's a joy to use (get up-wind of a complex, burn baby burn and peg them off when they flee, or watchem squirm - priceless). For those who are bitchin that this "too" real (old guns jam, you get malaria, etc) - go play doom 1 or tetris - that's likely more up your alley, lol - who ever bitched a game was too realistic? go do puzzles or something.… Expand

Nonsensical story, annoying respawning checkpoints, game is not moddable, malaria is annoying, map obstucts screen, tiny viewable area when driving, enemy AI when in vehicles is idiotic, invisible walls on all hills, can only take on one mission at a time, game designers tried to milk mileage by assigning each mission at far side of map requiring endless drudgery getting there and back. Lack of anything interesting to find (information or objects) or much to explore. The good points are the graphics and the gun-play/shooting aspects, but the rest is so annoying that I had to stop playing after 20%. Very poor game.… Expand

Yeah, the missions are bit repetitive, but look at the flexibility of the game. You can manage which missions to do and when, how to get around (on foot, jeeps, buses), and most important the approach you take to a situation. The best part about this game is that it feels like it's very upfront and honest about what it is. It doesn't pretend to be an RPG. It doesn't pretend to be something as pretentious as Crysis. No, this is Far Cry 2, and it actually lives up to the name. Plot doesn't seem to figure much into the game so far, but that's okay...because the game truly IS open-ended. Sure, you have to go take on missions and there are certain objectives that you have to do, but the world is VERY open. The way I see it is, this is like a MUCH better, fully polished version of what a game like STALKER should be...minus the inventory system. It literally sticks you into the world and there you are. You can find diamonds and upgrade weapons and safe-houses. And the graphics in this game are AMAZING. I'm running it on an 8800GT and it's letting me run it at 1280x960 with all the DX10 features and most details turned all the way up. It looks really great. The lighting and foliage and atmosphere are wonderful. The editor is great too. They've made it even more intuitive than the one for Far Cry is, and it allows you to literally plop yourself right down into your map AS you're making it. Excellent game. And the filesizes are amazing. I was surprised when the game was less than 4GB. Not sure how they did it, but it's good to see a game that isn't an 8GB monster.… Expand

Admittedly, the title of Far Cry 2 was just capitalizing on the success of Far Cry, and was a pretty cheap move on the part of Ubisoft. Avoiding any parallels to Far Cry 1, this game is a truly amazing game. It's realistic fire makes weapons like the flame thrower even more fun than usual, and it's open environments gives you the chance to make all the discussions on how to accomplish a goal. It's missions can get repetitive, but burning stuff never gets old. It's main problem is that after things get burnt, nothing happens. They are not destroyed, they just stop being on fire. I really, REALLY can't help but laugh at some of the comments below. Yes, you do have to clear out enemy checkpoints (guard posts) every time you go through them. What so many of them fail to grasp is that YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THEM. Maybe someone used to Halo or even Call of Duty expects to perform the same action over and over again, but this game is NOT Halo or Call of Duty. For my playthrough, I adopted a full stealth strategy. Silenced Pistol, sniper rifle, and a rocket launcher if I needed a lot of bang. When I first started, though, I was popping caps left and right with a shotgun and flamethrower. But the thing about this game is that you're NOT relegated to any one experience. As I said, I adopted a stealth strategy. How do I deal with checkpoints? Either sneak around them in the brush, or shoot a guard from a distance, wait for all his buddies to come looking for me, then sneak through while they're busy searching. And the game ENCOURAGES this. Or, if I'm not in the mood for sneaking, I can borrow a boat from the Dock at the bar and take the river route. Very few guard posts and they're less likely to chase you. So if you think you're having a hard time, CHANGE your strategy. You're not limited by the game, you're limited by yourself. As for the game itself, its quite beautiful, at least before you start blowing it up. The fire effects are pretty awesome but still have a ways to go. Best I've ever seen, though. You can actually predict where the flame will go based on wind direction and terrain. What else can I say? The world is very immersive. AI is frustrating, but in a good way. Often I'll think I was perfectly hidden when someone will spot me becuase I poke a gun barrel around a corner. Often I'll kill a guard, think i'm in the clear then find out he had a buddy just down the road who saw me kill him. And sometimes that buddy will shoot off a flare and call MORE of his buddies to finish me off. All in all, this game punishes your mistakes to be sure, but definitely rewards good performance. So if you play this game, don't think that you're limited to roads or checkpoints. Don't think you have to kill every enemy or do every mission. Make the game yours. Kill some buffalo or zebras. And most of all DON'T get discouraged, where theres a will (and a lot of ammo) theres a way.… Expand

The game is magnificent. In terms of atmosphere, it is second to none. Today's impatient run and gun on rails set will find it irritating - no worries, not for everyone. It has its faults.. patchy AI, instant guard post respawns. But overall a fabulous gaming experience, if only you will let it enfold you in its sweaty embrace.

One of the best fps experiences ever. It feels like a mix of stalker, crysis and grand theft auto all mashed together in a big heap of action and pure fun. Great stealth action as well as straightforward explosions and such. The open world is an awesome gameplay design thats been pulled off flawlessly. No it's not perfect by any means and noone has argued it is. Whats bothering me is that im seeing scores as low as 1's in here and thats just absurd. one person who gave it a 1 complained that there was "no strafing whilst sprinting"...wtf?? i mean, go outside right now and start trying to sprint sideways... yeah, you have fun with that. i'm a huge fan of the original farcry and i love this game. infact i know alot of people who love this game. And as far as people being made that this "has nothing to do with FarCry", actually the developers always said that the island was the main character of the game. the name itself is meant to imply a sense of isolation and survival against all odds, and that is still the theme and character of this game. before you dis a game, i suggest you know what you're talking about. this is a game for hardcore gamers (as far as the campaign) they didnt make a game to try to apeal to everyone, they made a game to apeal to the people who are jaded by the WW2 clones and space . this game was a brave attempt at doing something new with the genre and they've produced a well polished, beautiful, and sometimes punishing game, that i assure you, noobs need not apply. My favorite game of the year. Crysis = Stunning visuals, mediocre gameplay, terrible voice acting and optimization COD4 = Fantastic gameplay, subpar visuals, neutered campaign HL2e2: Impressive extension of Source engine, creative environment, boring gameplay scenarios little different from HL2 and HL2e1 FC2 = Immersive visuals, unique storyline and characters. Yes, the game is repetitive and the voice acting of combatant NPCs over the top, but the environment's open range and weapon combo choices allow much freedom for player creativity. Everything Crysis should have been! Crytek will be crying whilst playing this, as Far Cry 2 is by far the best and most innovative fps 2008 will surely see! A mix of GTA4, Mercenaries 2, Frontline Fuel of War and COD4, FC2 takes a lot of inspiration from other titles and wraps it all up with a sense of freedom, delight and utter terror! The new game engine should be a crowd pleaser. Obviously you are going to need a reasonable rig, but a reasonable rig will provide more than reasonable performance. Expect your same hardware to perform with detail you could never achieve with Crysis or the tweaked warhead. The multiplayer mode looks promising, with Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond (Flag), and a capture the zone mode. However, the terrible browser and connection issues are marring a potential very pleasant addition to what is surely the best single player fps of 2008!… Expand

A very well done FPS. Open environment is a breath a fresh air. The game is what you make of it. Every mission had a TON of possibilities, which is great. If for one mission, you don't want to go in to blow up an objective, then use a mortar from a distance. Or you can sleep until night with stealth clothes and a dart rifle and silenced SMG. The reason people are giving this game low ratings is 1) They haven't even played it. 2)They are making it actively boring Seriously, what YOU do is what makes the game fun. Hate travel? Take the bus. Like travel? Drive or take the boat. Hate stealth? Run and gun with a SAW and RPG's at noon. Like stealth? Sneak in at 1 AM with silenced weapons. One of the best things about this game is the "calm before the storm", as you scout out an enemy camp with your binoculars from a hill high above, planning your attack style.… Expand

If you like to shoot things in a straight line like Halo or Call of Duty, you're going to not like this game. So leave and don't review it. If you're at all creative and you respect a beautifully open ended world, this game is absolutely amazing. The world is beautiful, I almost crapped myself when I found out the original map was not the only place you could go. Guns perform terrificly, and the all of the guns require you to unlock them first, making them ever so satisfying. The game is about survival and accomplishing your goal of killing the Jackal, in one way or another. It's great fun, and if you are a fan of the GTA series you may enjoy this. This really is a new shooter, the best way I can describe it is as a well pulled off first person Mercenaries, with much more realism. Sniper rifles perform as you'd expect, however don't expect too much long range shooting. Assault rifles are great up close, the weapon degradation is never very annoying as long as you maintain your weapons and don't use the rusty stuff the bad guys drop. Everyone complains about Malaria, but you have like 10 pills per bottle, and the attacks occur every 30 minutes to an hour, so you can potentially run 7-10 hours on average before having to do a short delivery mission to get more. People complaining about it are twitch gamers that should honestly stop whining and go back to xbox live. Visually the PC version is brilliant and left my mind boggled, even at DX9. I'm running and HD4870, 4GB of RAM, and 3.0Ghz E8400 and I get a good 30-50 FPS on ultra high, which looks a hell of a lot nice than the Xbox or PS3 version. Even on those versions the world looks very good, except for a dip in FPS. This is a great game, I highly recommend it! It does have DRM, but you get a install back if you uninstall the game! You get 5 installs, and with uninstall it's not a big deal. My only issues with the game: A few main missions are rediculous. I had to defend a barge that was under fire from all directions, while repairing it. I blew up a gunboat, and it landed on top of the boat, the part where I needed to be to repair the damn thing. It let me repair but I was hurting due to fire... If you dont have quicksave like on PC, that would have been ungodly hard to beat. Driving takes a long time. I wish they would have had some ambient radio like in GTA to keep you occupied. Checkpoints are annoying, but you eventually learn how to buzz past them or around them. Great game overall!… Expand

If I could only use one word to describe this game it would be "boring". I never finished it because it was so incredibly dull to play.. wait, no, a better word for this would be "repetitive" - which is the reason why it's boring (protip: a GAME should not be BORING). The AI is terrible, suicidal and detrimental to the experience - in a sandbox game, decent AI is an absolute priority. I think this game is a good example of the problems the large majority of the gaming industry has in determining what makes a game good. It would seem that the developers threw all their creative efforts into making this game LOOK good, rather than PLAY good. This game is incredibly fun once you take the time to experiment and be creative in the way you tackle missions. Love the weapons, and the flanking tactic I see AI's employ. I love the open ended-ness and open world, but I think this is where some of the (ameteur) user-reviewers disagree. It is very true that you can't play this game like you'd play more linear games, because thats the opposite of what its designed for. So basically, if you get into it and experiment with it its a blast, and if you don't, I pity you. I also give it an extra point for graphics and more specifically portraying Africa so beautifully. I can't think of any other game which does Africa remotely well. But, this (unlike say Halo 3) makes you feel like your really in Africa.… Expand

They are one of the leading developers in the industry and they wouldn't even think about releasing a finished product unless they were possitive that it would be recieved well by the masses. I bought this game looking forward to having lots of fun, as every review I read online and on youtube gave it a thumbs up. I could not believe that they actually pretended the game had a storyline. I was in denial, because after spending 30 bucks getting the game I forced myself to like it, but other than the graphics, there is nothing to like. People on this game absorb lead, and headdshots are very rare.... No one did their research on gun calibres as a 9mm is weaker than a 5.56mm in this game.It is painfully repetitive, and I though someone must have made the ending as a joke. Someone at Ubisoft must be laughing about how they managed to trick thousands upon thousands of people into buying such glorified trash. This is gaming marmite, your either going to love it or hate it. After the first five hours of game-play the scale of the game really starts to hit you and suddenly it becomes a sheer joy to play - if the game was a drug the effects start to kcik in and it feels great. its when you realise that ever mission in the game (there are about 35) is EXACTLY the same that you start to feel a bit betrayed. SURE, you can approach each identical mission in a new and expressive way and SURE - each mission takes place in varying environments. HOWEVER, the objective is ALWAYS one of two things: Kill a man or Blow up an object with explosives. That is just two missions repeated roughly 15 times to make 35 missions. I find it baffling that the creators could produce such a detailed and imaginative environment and such a beautifully crafted fighting system only to come up with the most unimaginative and simply boring mission system to go over it! Assassination or Sabotage, thats it, thats all you will be doing for 30 hours and every time you go to get a mission your heart sinks a little bit 'Oh! What a surprise! you want someone dead! I didnt see that coming! ive only gone and done that 13 times already! Its ok..This time ill try using nothing but a flare gun.' I would give this game 10 if they had spent the time varying the missions how about these possibilities: Undercover Missions, Hunting Missions, Decoy Missions, Puzzle Missions, Rescue Missions, VIP Missions etc etc . This game is nothing short of brilliant. The graphics are mind-boggling and the AI is fantastic. That said, there are some few problems. One is that you can't seem to kill people while they're moving from a car turret into the driver seat. Next is the fact that no one doesn't want to kill you. And lastly, there are too many people who seem keen on hiding 1 diamond in a suitcase in the middle of nowhere. 1 for effort... or no effort. I certainly liked the feeling of hiding from enemies in the first far cry. You could stumble upon an enemy or intentionally, and then hide in a bush or whatever to allude them and then blow out their brains. You could lie down to get away from enemy fire. You could run farther and faster. There was a story line. There were real battles that varied. There was minimal time wasted driving around. There were no meaningless battles. Far Cry 2 is a 'far cry' from Far Cry 1. It screams for help everytime I play it. It just wants to be a real game... but I can't help it. It struggles to excite me and cannot. It moans in pain to be fun and yet cannot be. It needed more love as an infant. Someone just didn't have a college fund for this baby! I wanted so bad for it to play like they said it would, 'A real experience' they even said, 'As close to the real thing ever'.... Ever??? Nope. It's not really that close. I enjoyed the online play for a while, but then that was too repetative also. Its a game that could've gone far if the developers had spent a few more hours on it. I hope far cry 3 is better. Everyone seems to be made of armor and stealthing is impossible at times. This would be fun if it had a working coop, but otherwise it's just too bland. So bland you can't even describe how bland and boring it is. This game falls under the "Could not finish because it was painful" list.

Far Cry 2 is an absolute disappointment to anyone and everyone. The entire game is tedious at best driving for 80% of the game only stopping to kill the odd generic henchmen with bad A.I, It has nothing to do with the original game at all. Ubisoft simply made this game to milk money from fans of the original game. This games not worth bothering with, save your money.

I tried hard to like this game. Very rarely do I not complete a game unless it is boring or repetitive. Unfortunately this game is both.

The game makes you travel between locations to achieve a mission update. So you will pass by checkpoints and strongholds numerous times in order to get to certain target zones. Here lies the problem...

The way enemies respawn is distance based, not time-based- thus it is totally unrealistic, annoying, and multiplies the difficulty of the game. For example: you will approach many checkpoints in the game during your travels. You will see the enemies goofing off, tying their shoelaces or smoking a cig which apparently gives you the initial element of surprise. You attack the checkpoint, killing the first guy and INSTANTLY after that, the remaining enemies make the experience as difficult as they can for you. You take some damage, but kill every last enemy in the place with your machine gun. You just torched the cp with Molotov's and blew the place up with grenades. Now, if you leave the area and turn the corner, then suddenly realize you are heading the wrong direction and need to turn back... guess what? The enemies have come back to life. Even more unrealistic, they will be goofing off again, tying their shoelaces and smoking a cig. There will be no sign of your previous battle anywhere. You will have to fight them all over again in order to continue. How realistic is that? Respawns will occur and there is no limit. So if you take the same path from your mission giver, to the target zone, and back- you will engage every CP and roaming patrol along your path at least twice. They will be the same exact enemies again and again, tedious and boring. I've tried the stealth approach as well, by crouching and slowly advancing through bushes and stuff. It is so boring and sometimes a sniper starts shooting at you from hundreds of yards away so you take damage anyway. Some areas cannot be passed by using stealth, so you are forced to attack or take tons of damage.

It seems everything I did was absolutely useless and has no effect in the world. I almost got though act 1 in this game. But after killing the same guys in the same checkpoints 2, 3 times for each mission it became very mundane. It would not have been difficult to implement at least a 24-hour respawn timer but the developer didn't. I still remember how confused I was after completing the first mission. I had just wiped out an entire camp enemies about 8 guys, fought them tooth and nail for about 3, 4 minutes. I went back to the mission giver and completed the mission. I get the next target zone for my next mission, and realize after looking at the map, that the area I had just cleared was one of two potential paths to take even though it was a slightly longer distance. Since I had killed everyone earlier, I thought it wouldn't be a problem to take that path since it was safe. I didn't even get 10 feet into the camp before I was shredded by a hail of gunfire. Game over. That was my first impression of the game and it still is.… Expand

A title that unfortunely had a bit of a wild tango dance during the development face, not knowing whether it wants to be dumbed down for the masses or stay true to difficulty and we end up with this horibly spread-out hybrid between an MMORPG with infinite enemy spawns and an single-player RPG shooter. I would tend to agree with the professional reviewers rather than the users on this one - Far Cry 2 is an immersive, graphically excellent, and reasonably realistic game. It's extremely atmospheric, and the unusual setting - an unnamed war-torn African nation - gives it a unqiue feel.

It's clear from many of the other user reviews here that people expect certain things from a first-person shooter, and Far Cry 2 isn't ticking those boxes. Personally, I am not a big fan of linear gameplay, preferring open, 'sandbox' games like the GTA series, so to me Far Cry 2 is a breath of fresh air. Being able to move around at your own pace, in a very realistic world (in terms of audio/graphics, at least), and come up with your own tactics rather than having to follow a set path makes this a lot of fun.

I've dropped 1 point because of the instantly-respawning enemies (as mentioned in many other reviews) and because if you cause trouble, run away, and come back, everyone seems to have forgotten about you, which is weird. The story is a little weak, but honestly, who really wants 20-minute-long cut scenes? In short, this beautiful and open-ended game doesn't stick to the conventions of FPSes, and that makes it something unique.… Expand

Its hard for a game to come by around me and get a 0 as I always look for the positive things in video games. Far Cry 2 is just... unacceptable. The first problem is the name. Do not be fooled, this is NOT Far Cry AT ALL. Far Cry 1 was Crytek's baby; a first person shooter centered around one guy who had his normal research out in the sea turn to **** when a group of mercenaries inhabiting a nearby island blow up his boat. The premise was simple; a man wearing a bright red Hawaiian shirt is trying to escape, but finds out the secrets about the mutated creatures. The game featured an open environment for players to take different approaches in order to progress through each level. And with it, level design that actually created atmosphere, developed certain characters, manipulated the environment around you, the works. Far Cry 2 has none of that. Replace Jack Carver with a mute that has a Malaria and is out to find a weapons dealer. Mutants? What mutants? Character? Lol what character? It's sad because when starting the game you do have a set of different people to choose from, each with their own unique bio. But all that really means is that while playing, the your character's arms will be different. Any character you don't choose becomes an AI friend you can assign to help you out during combat later on. However, which ever one you choose will be mute and have malaria, even when the AI versions have voice actors and are perfectly healthy. What is the POINT? I'm trying to play a game, not manage a god damn illness. This game is just a simplistic shooter that hides itself under layers of complex illusions. The only bit of story and atmospheric build up is right in the beginning when you learn about rising tensions between two African factions that could cause a war any moment thanks to your cab driver. Then you get into town, your malaria bugs you and then you are given an introduction to our baddie. Then a war erupts in the town. After that... well there are no more civilians and not one friendly face. Instead, every single person you see is a member of one of the 2 factions. Which leads me to my biggest complaint: The missions. You can accept missions from both factions, but surprise surprise, you have no allies depending on the faction you are doing a job for. And its not a case of them cutting you some slack later on and saying, "Our boys won't do harm to you." No. Its every **** time. It really feels like Ubisoft was too lazy to code any friendly AI apart from the one "friend" you can select. Biggest complaint #2: Getting to your objectives. Far Cry 2 has no level design, and instead we get free roaming. What does that really mean? Drive from one area of the map to another. Although every inch of Africa can be explored, your vehicle obviously can't travel over a mountain or through trees. So you're stuck on the roads. But here's the worst part: EVERY BODY DESPISES YOU. At any given point while driving, you see a vehicle on the road, don't assume its a civilian. The only people that are driving are members of the 2 factions, and the minute they see you they will floor the gas and open fire on you. Why? Who cares! It wastes the player's time and gives them the sense the game is longer than what it really is right! This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that EVERYONE IS FASTER THAN YOU. That's right, you can't outrun them. While you're locked to a cruising speed, enemies in a damn flat bed truck can drive faster than you. So its really 1-2 minutes of driving, 3-4 minutes trying to save yourself from being killed and searching for a new vehicle. Wash, rinse, repeat. And it traps you into thinking check points are safe where you can pull up and show ID to the people. But no, checkpoints = 6 men stationed there are ready to kick your ass. And while you may have cleared that checkpoint or area full of enemies, guess what? They respawn back there again. Its padding, and its obvious. The worst part... the level design, or should I say the lack there of. Every mission in the game is just driving to a certain location, killing a bunch of randomly placed NPCs and then driving on back (while still being shot at by cars and checkpoints). That's it, nothing more. Far Cry 2 does offer side objectives you can accomplish in order to unlock new weapons and stuff of that sort.... but let me give you a little run down of the gun merchant side quest. Every merchant will offer a new weapon if you can stop this convoy that's transporting guns. Ok, sounds cool, some actual mission design perhaps? But no. Instead, you get a line of 3 trucks that just drive around IN A GOD DAMN CIRCLE ENDLESSLY UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY STOP IT. This game is so basic, its disgusting. The graphics are the only decent thing about this game, and some cool aesthetics such as over 100 different animations for fixing yourself from bleeding out on the last segment of your health bar. Shallow, do not buy.… Expand

The atmosphere and environments are impressive, but what really sinks the game is the shooting. What's the most important aspect of any FPS? Having combat that's fun and innovative. The biggest flaw is the shooting itself. It feels off and clunky. I know the game is going for realism, but it doesn't come off well. I enjoyed playing it for a few hours but soon grew bored. If you like the game, more power to you. It just isn't my cup of tea.… Expand

Finally, an open world shooter where everyone wants to kill you and not the other way round. At first this game did indeed seem to be a bit boring, but after about five hours of game play I really got stuck into it. Sure, it doesn't cater for all markets, but if you want a serious, realistic FPS this is the game to buy. Maybe there could have been a bit more interactivity with the map and a few more side missions as well although I must give the Map Designers a big round of applause, I have lived in Africa for 9 years now and this game truly brings out the rugged, harsh, dangerous yet beautiful landscape that is, Africa.… Expand

Love this game, I know that its got a lot of bad thing(like character voices, not so good scenario, and some times get boring). But still its awesome/ Very big and beautiful world, excellent made guns, finding diamond. It makes game so cool.

Im certain that my taste in games would be highly respected by my peers if any of them were gamers so hark my words. you get out what you put in to this game.
I put off playing this game for a while because of the reasons stated in the low scoring reviews but then I remembered, actually, I prefer making my own conclusions.
get blazed, relax, difficulty to hardcore, tactically plan your approach to combat and suck in the vibe.
To all those people rating this low... I can understand why.
However, when you get older and your tastes start maturing you'll start to appreciate this game.
You are probably looking for that stunning girl with amazing personality and deep conversation, with a cracking body and a good sense of humour. Far Cry 2 is more like a 45 year old woman, past her prime but still attractive, and delivers where it really matters... the bedroom.
I have no idea where im going with this analogy....

The latter is definitely much more of a challenge to get involved with but once you crack it and those stilletoes are diggin into your back and shes calling you a piece of dirt... you will be way more satisfied.… Expand

It may be called FarCry 2 but it really has no connection to the story as far as I could tell. Just a name that would get it more sales but that doesn't make it bad. Quite the opposite! It's a huge non-linear game based in Africa where you, one of eight other characters is sent undercover to kill Jackel, someone arming both sides of a civil war there! It's very enjoyable and has the usual shooter elements that were done amazingly as the FarCry series has always done. The animations, physics, graphics and everything else is brilliant and looks almost real... That is if you get past the vehicles. They're fun to drive but two things make them to unbelievable. One, being that the break down waaay to easily and the second reason being that their physics is way off. Hitting a bush with a car in real life doesn't make the car completely stop and raise the back wheels into the air, a wall would do that! Other than the vehicle physics and strength this game is amazing and anyone who loves open world or shooters should defiantly take a look at this!… Expand

Erm, why has this got a user score of 5.6? The console version is terrible compared to PC. On consoles it's running at 720, 30 FPS and on lower graphics and FoV. Not to mention the hideous controls, which are unresponsive and make movement more awkward than any other game. Hence why on multiplayer there is practically auto-aim rather than aim assist. On PC however, the framerates are smooth, graphics are better in every way due to DX10 support controls are better... I guess it's because PC gamers compare it to Crysis and the first Far Cry whereas those console kids haven't seen the good stuff. Whilst it's true that this is notthing like the first game, I think that it makes it better because it shows there's been some work done and it isn't just copy and paste. The actual gameplay experience is more similar than you might think, but you couldn't tell it's a Far Cry game without the title. Regardless, it's still a fantastic game, with my only criticism being the lack of players in ranked matches on multiplayer.… Expand

I love the setting and mood of this game, not to mention the lack of a HUD which increases immersion. Combat is very fun, with capable AI opponents that turn psychotic in vehicles. There is nothing like shooting a flare pistol at someone in the dark and lighting them and the surroundings on fire. Missions do get repetitive, but the incredible landscape and enjoyable combat compensate for everything else. I came back to this game after playing a bit of Far Cry 3.… Expand

I only just recently got into Far Cry 2. Previously, I had played the first one, and enjoyed it greatly. When I noticed that a second one had come out, I decided I had to try it out. My first impressions, before even playing it, were slightly low, seeing that the game was not released by CryTek, but instead, Ubisoft (not a huge fan of them.) However, Giving it a try, I was met with a new experience on this game. It ran great on my computer, a lower-end machine (running Intel HD Graphics) with a close to 35 FPS and only had issues with slightly lengthy loading periods. I was amazed by how the atmosphere of the game was. The landscape portrayed many elements of the African area it takes place in, from deserts, to forests, to grasslands and everything in between. Even more amazing to me was the implicated weather system and realistic natural elements, such as being able to burn vegetation, and the sun moving relative to the time of day (in game time.) What sold me most on this score of 10 was the fact that all this was done, and so much was fit into the game, without me having to close processes to free up memory. This game is one of the few games I would give a 10 to, and it deserves it. I will be looking forward to Far Cry 3, and hope that it amazes me once again.… Expand

This is probably the most repetitive and flawed FPS I've every played. The story itself is pretty good and the environment is wonderful but everything else is horrible, horrible done. The design flaws are some of the worst I've ever had to contend with and has completely turned me off of this series.

The game advertises secondary quests and factions but they have absolutely no impact on the main game. The best way to play this game is to just do the main quest. While there are 2 factions everybody hates you all the time so working for a faction impacts only who gives you the mission. Each time you walk out the door they remind you they hate you. What is the use of having factions if everybody is your enemy. The game has many design flaws that probably sounded good on paper but were horrible in practice.

Let's start with the guard posts scattered throughout the maps. As you clean them out the map marks them as cleared and a counter lets you know how you're doing. Unfortunately if you go a little ways away and come back they are completely repopulated. Other than changing the icon on a map clearing out the posts serves no purpose whatsoever. I got to the point where I just ran through the post and only stopped if I had to.

The game requires that you micromanage your character. Guns jam, you have to take medicine periodically, cars break down and if you get low on health you have to use first aid or bleed to death. This all adds up to more focus on the character than combat. This game is most definitely a FPS because stealth just doesn't work here. As soon as you shoot anyone everyone knows where you're at and their accuracy is astonishing. I had 1 person shooting me with a pistol at long range, across a ravine, throw a wood wall and still kept hitting me.

Back to the health system. When your health gets really low you have to bandage or your die. No problem except the animation takes about 5 seconds and cannot be interrupted (except by enemy fire). And oh by the way the enemies can continue to attack. So if you're swarmed (which you often are by the end of the game) then you have no chance to recover so you reload. That's bad. Here's probably the most idiotic thing I've ever seen in a game it quick saves just before you start the long, uninterruptible animation. That means you get quick saves of the game just before you either get lucky and survive or you die. Whoever thought that was a good idea should never design a game again.

There are so many enemies running around in cars that you end up fighting more people getting to a mission (because the fast travel system isn't that fast) than in the mission itself. Even worse is that cars tend to not make any noise until they start shooting at you and if they are too close you cannot shoot back without getting out of the car.

Overall this game was not fun to play. I ran through most of the map just to get to a mission, stopping only when I had to. During the missions I went straight to the goal because nothing else had any impact anyway. Even the ending of the game where you had a choice to make had absolutely no impact on the ending. I cannot possible recommend this game to anyone other than a hard core FPS person who has nothing else to play. I remember when this game came out they advertised "realistic fire". Yes the fire looks awesome but if all I really wanted was to watch real fire I'd become a fireman. Clearly this game was sold based upon its name more than its design.… Expand

I don't mind repetition if what I'm repeating is enjoyable, though constantly having enemies spawn in the outposts I just cleared, having enemy trucks charging at me every 30 seconds and having lackluster side activities outside the main storyline is not my idea of fun. I admit I had my good moments with Far Cry 2, but the flaws that seem to lurk around every corner definitely overshadow the positives of this game.… Expand

Just an Unforgettable open world FPS game, Amazing graphics with the African landscapes. The shooting is real, not just realistic. Too many weapons to use, The ability of driving vehicles and boats, you can use them to escape if you wish, but they are not vulnerable against rockets and bullets. There are too many ways to fight the enemies in vehicles, Destroying their cars and boats with RPGs and explosives are the very effective ways. I've once sneaked in an enemy post. Plugged explosives in a car, and escape in the remaining car. So when they follow me with their car I just pushed the button. You can be creative in that game if you want. The scenario is a bit repetitive but not boring and it stays an amazing game that worth to be played.… Expand

1 Point for being original another for creatively controlling fire effects...but that's it. This game is mind numbingly boring. Second the "it's open ended" is complete garbage. If I take the left street to work, instead of the right, I'm still going to work. Furthermore the choices you make have ZERO impact on the extremely linear story. It doesn't matter if you save all of Africa, have a trash can full of blood diamonds to share, or improved your "friendship" with someone to 99999, NONE OF IT MATTERS. The story writers should be ashamed! Finally, the mechanics are extremely poor. The same truck will come the same way every time. For some reason the armies build the same shacks back you JUST blew up 10 seconds ago if you venture to far out. This becomes EXTREMELY annoying as it's simply a grind of killing meaningless people. I have no clue how this game received an 85 rating. I doubt very seriously that the game reviewers actually finished the game. I did. And both endings sucked. 4.99 for this game is a rip off. well... it maybe true its repetitive, but open world, and nice graphic is priceless. i like the way we roam the big world, doing things we want to try... and it is not really that boring, if you are the types of person who like it. But, i believe FarCry3 would be the best because it really have soul in its character (i saw the trailer and it was amazing).

This game is a shame for the name Far Cry! The first (and only) Far Cry was a brilliant masterpiece with excellent graphics, very long and really amazing campaign, great level design, everything just perfect!
It was a revoltuion to the PC game market.
That's pretty much everything that FarCry 2 does not have. It doesn't continue Jack Carvers story, the envirenment is in a **** desert, graphics are quite nice, but there is NO story at all. All you do is move from control point A to control point B and kill some dudes on the way, when you are done with the mission and drive the same way back home, the dudes you killed have respawned and you got to fight them again! Really brilliant! Awesome! The gameplay and the AI are just perfect to the entertainment of the gamer. I liked so much, but I only think that sometimes the game is too difficult, and complex to novice players.

This game is amazing. The whole country is detailed and beautiful, the guns are realistic and the AI is pro. The country is amazing because of the realistic graphics and details are put in everywhere. The guns are realistic because if you steal guns from bodies, they may not work and can jam and such, so unlike most FPS games, you will find yourself buying new guns when you already have a used model of the same gun. Finally, the AI is pro because of how they respond to anything, if there is only a few of them and you are running away, they will let you go, if there is like 7 of them they will pursue you and do everything possible to kill you, including drive you off the road or smash their car into yours. They will also use flanking maneuvers and split up. If thats not enough, the whole game is free roam and theres a whole bunch of NPC "buddies" that have different storys and can help you. Esto tal vez sea lo único bueno del juego, porque ofrece un guión pobre, adornado con misiones repetitivas: ir desde las facciones a puntos retirados a disparar y/o sabotear; no vale táctica alguna porque siempre resultaremos refrescándonos a tiros con los mercenarios del lugar. Wow, this game is realy nice, the graphic are magic and the story is amazing. This a game for player that like fallout or RPG game. This is fantastic and the third is coming soon :)

Certainly not a game for everyone, this game challenges your imagination. While it does feel like a bunch of land with very few missions, you create your own fun. Use your sniper and go big game hunting, find every diamond briefcase, etc....There are almost no limits in this game. Plus, this game has some of the best gunplay i've ever seen . 31 weapons (with DLC) and i've tried them all. Like all, and use all except for about 5. Sure, some of the missions are repetitive, but most shooters have this mechanic of "go here and shoot." This game allows you to approach the objective from literally any angle, with any plan of attack, making each battle feel fresh.… Expand

This game has very nice graphics. You actually feel like you are in Africa. The combat in this game is decent except for the infinite enemy ''check points" they are really just "shoot to death on spot" points. One of the best things in this game is the realistic fires that can spread and behave like a real fire would. I'm pretty sure the game had a story when I first started playing but I'm not sure now. The missions are just "go here shoot these guys". This game also has a really good map editor though sadly multiplayer is almost abandoned.… Expand

Seemed like it was going to be good. Graphics, sound all impressive. Story kind of cool. But the more you play, the more repetitive this game gets. The problem is that it takes SO long to get from point A to point B. Checkpoints you've cleared become populated quickly so you end up battling practically every inch of the way if you want to get anywhere. It's a fatal flaw because you end up not really wanting to travel anywhere because of the tedium involved.

The only game left more unfinished by my friends might be Dead Island, which is a zombie version of this game. Great graphics, great acting, great audio, good gameplay, but it just becomes totally tedious to play. I understand the 5.6 10 user score, but the 85 100 critic score just reminds me why, like movie reviewers, professional critics all suck and should be summarily ignored.

Not that it has anything to do with playability of the merits of this game, but I'd like to understand why this game was even called "Far Cry". It's about as close in plot and story to Far Cry 1 as Bioshock is to Quake 4. LOL...… Expand

The only redeeming quality in this game is the graphics.

The enemy AI is terrible but, they just stand there shooting, all you have to do is snipe them all out easily because they don't take cover or move about much. Somehow they manage to hit you from long distances while you're on the move inside a vehicle, rubbish.

The vehicles all feel the same, even in GTA3 a very old game now they managed to make you feel like you were driving different vehicles. Then, there's a hang glider, lol, pointless, no fun, gimmick.

The missions are all very similar, drive 10 minutes to go kill someone, blow a truck or deliver some documents. I think the developers have done it on purpose, how come the mission is always on the other end of the map, it makes you spend 90% of the driving. If the driving part was fun it wouldn't be so bad, but it's not, it doesn't even feel like driving, it feels like walking really fast with shaky camera, I think it's because the vehicles have only two velocities, you're stopped or moving, they forgot the acceleration part of driving.

Not sure if I consider the random missions a story, it makes little sense.… Expand

After playing FC2 for a couple of days I searched for other gamers opinions on a game which I was still in denial about. The first 5 minutes gave me a giddy rush of excitement as your character is driven through the war-torn country and all you can do is admire your surroundings...from here it all goes downhill! All my problems have already been raised by others however I played it on 360 but must comment on this page to tell all you PC gamers that the game is equally as bad on consoles. After previously buying all my games on my PC, I know how frustrating a console port can be but in this case it's not that it's a bad port but put simply, it's just a terrible game.… Expand

This game gets a 3 for graphics the intro and advertising....THATS IT! This game is worse then Super Mario Bros. 3. It's GTA 2 rehashed with better graphics except you only get Jeeps and Pintos as your vehicles of choice. The weapons are fun for a while but blow up in your hands while you are killing your thousandth mercenary. The quests suck and are completely unimaginative. The story sucks because it's completely unengaging...not worth suffering of hours and hours of boredom and repetition to actually see what happens. The characters seemed cool at first but then they end up falling into the 'repetitive' category. With a modding SDK this game could have had a lot forgiven; it's one of the best engines I've ever played; but some terrible compromises were made in design stages that should never have gotten past alpha. for every 5-10 minutes you spend doing a well designed, interesting mission, you spend an hour driving around, stopping every 500 yards to kill a car of random people who heard your engine and as such decided you must die, who will respawn INSTANTLY so that even during the mission you're driving to the same camp could end up attacking you again. Add to this the fact that only the main story missions are interestiing (every side quest is the same one of 3-4)

The current fast travel system takes the game from unplayable to irritating. Which is why Far Cry 2 was one of the biggest disappointments of the year.… Expand

Good visuals on the xbox360 - expected better with the way everyone was hyping it up. fire looks great. Bushes - thought would be way more detailed. Things get a bit grainy all around in general. AI - for the most part stupid. And glitchy at times. Respawning of enemies is sooooo annoying. This is the most overrated game of the year. When / If UBI wonder why PC game sales are so low, they should ask themselves (hint: not because of piracy). To UBI: PC gamers don't want dumbed down, repetitive simpletons. This "game" has no story, no logic, advertised civil war doesn't exist in game (and you're the most hated person in Africa for no apparent reason). My 4 outof 10 is for visual only, People that say this game is good either have not played it or like driving for to long and shooting check points. The aiming system is shit the ai is useless its a first person shooter not lets wander around look at the sights shoot someone the come back past and they are back what a waste of money and time.

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Missions are boring and repetitve. The personal gun storage is stupid (pick a gun off its rack on the wall and another magically appears in its place). The whole game is unrealistic, the AI is mediocre, every single person you see instantly goes berserk trying to kill you, everything is NOT destructible (only about half the trees are, and there are still some smallish trees that will bring a fast moving jeep to a sudden stop). Open world was a horrible choice, and the main plot is retarded. The only thing this game is good for is for a quick 30 minutes of stress relief consisting of driving around running people over, which by far is the most efficient way to kill (and fortunately these African rebels are somehow all equipped with military jeeps with unlimited ammo for the mounted gun). The fire is neato at first, but it burns out too quickly - they just didn't go far enough with this game. I don't know why they called it Far Cry -- it has nothing whatsoever to do with the original, which, despite corny plot and voice acting, was a masterpiece compared to this piece of s***. Also, I think it was a huge mistake to go for the M rating on this game - it appeals to the 10-12 yo demographic. My 12 year old brother loved it! If you are looking for an open world game with great AI, try STALKER or STALKER Clear Sky (be sure to quick-save, because you don't have a "buddy" to wipe your @$$ in STALKER). Wait til FarCry2 goes on sale for $10 before you waste your money. It's funny how the average user score is like 50% versus the metascore of 86 -- obviously a sign that for-pay video game critics are too afraid to offend a sponsor/advertiser to give an honest review.… Expand

Graphics are great, but the African setting is far too brown for those of use who absolutely loved the beauty of the tropics in the original Far Cry and Crysis. The controls of a PC don't translate well to a game that requires you to drive vehicles for the majority of the game. I dread picking up a mission far away because it means I'm going to be in a firefight at the same 5-10 checkpoints against the same enemies I've already killed 52 times before... boring! Crap, annoying AI, digging bullets out of your leg when there are a dozen people around you, milaria when there are a dozen people around you, wild animals running into the road when your trying to get away from the enemy, the crap the enemy talk, when you snipe one they all hide, you cannot then pick them off at a distance so wheres the shotgun when you need it, shoot a guy with a shotgun point blank and he just looks at you, people standing still when you are clearly in their sights, annoying hand movements when you are about to set of a bomb, dying when jumping into water from about ten feet up from water. would have liked a torch, maybe i havent got that far yet, but i like to have a scope and close range weapon, i never use a pistol, the map is utter crap, when i used the xbox 360 controller game still telling me which keyboard keys to press, some annoying pop up, same terrible repeating tune, sounds like something out of oblivion and during the night scenes it feels like im playing oblivion, day looks like crysis, i loved far cry and crysis, trying to like this but it drives me mad, just too annoying, running about trying to find suitcases with a single diamond, how lame, guys who can see you in the bushes at night from over 500 yards away, i chased one guy around for about three minutes, i dont think the character knew i was behind him. i'll leave the rest till some other time, if this even gets printed, i was using the pc version, maybe like oblivion, farcry 2 was optimised for consoles and not pc computers.… Expand

Very disappointing and very overrated game. Expected great things based on professional reviews and while the visuals can be stunning at times, game play is unimaginative and repititive not a patch of Crysis or Call of Duty 4. The poor AI makes the gaming experience feel 5 years old. Strange how gushing the professional critics where about the game. First off, I'd like to say that I feel like the critic reviewers are either liars or totally incompetent. The high scoring of this game is a shame and I hope more and more gamers take note of which magazines can be trusted to give a fair review and which are obviously in the pocket of the massive, unregulated gaming industry. Boring. Repetitive. Overrated. Fun for the first 20 mins, until you realise youll be criss crossing the map in a crappy jeep for the next 50 hours (if you bother to play it longer than an hour). As overhyped as Assassins Creed.

Unstructured, poorly told story. Playing this game is like watching the worst parts of the last Indiana Jones movie over and over again. Get a mission, get some guns, dirve bloody miles, encounter the same respawning guard post. Then you reach your objective (mission detail written buy someone truly bored by their job) and run around shooting people until it's clear. Drive bloody miles ... repeat. PC Gamer have a lot to answer to for making me buy this. I really wish I'd waited and gone for Dead Space or Fallout 3. With games costing so much it pays to read real peoples' reviews of games before parting with cash. If I hadn't used steam I would have taken it back. Really boring. The field of view also make it very unappealing. I was so looking forward to this. Bought it on release day, installed it, played for 15 mins and haven't felt a need to play again. I was initially dissappointed in Crysis, but compared to this its way better. Not so sure if the critics were playing the same game version i have cos they are really over-hyping this game. First, let me say I have not played Far Cry (the original) but I have played Crysis & Crysis Warhead. I will admit that a comparison between the Far Cry series and Crysis is not a legitimate comparison since Crysis is by far a much more detailed and different strategy type game. You can liken this game to the whole sand box type games like GTA series. There are main quests to complete but many side quests to gain extra money, better weapons, vehicles, etc. That being said, this game is an overwhelming disappointment. For all the hype about choosing your method of approach or attack, it amounts to nothing. So what if you can burn anything and an explosion will attract enemies to one location, it doesn't matter when you are fighting the same respawned enemies hundreds of times because you are crossing the same guard post area to get to a different part of the map. Graphics for environments look really good but that doesn't make a game. I have never been one to really care about a storyline and good thing too because this one is horrible. As for kills, I am playing at the next to highest difficulty and the only gun I find worth it to kill enemies is the sniper rifle. The autmoatics are worthless since it requires one full clip per enemy (although there are many to choose from). Enemy AI is variable. Some have marksman type shooting when they fire at you with a SMG from across the map but you couldn't do the same if you tried. AI in others is almost nonexistent as I have had enemies literally run up beside me and look around for me while I just turn and empty a bullet into their head point blank. There is no explanation of what upgrades do, what new weapons offer, or why I should buy a damn vehicle manual when I can still repair the shot up cars myself! The point, save your money, this is a boringly repetitive game that I find myself playing to pass the time until L4D comes out. You can save $50 and just spend it on L4D instead.… Expand

The embodiment of mediocrity. While the graphics are spectacular and the world immersive, the actual gameplay consists of driving from A to B, stopping at C, D, and E to take out groups of generic enemies. Once at your destination, you take out another group of generic enemies. Rinse, repeat. Not only does the game consist almost solely of having your travel interrupted by random enemies, but the combat itself somehow manages to avoid excitement and fun in favor of frustration and boredom. Just like Far Cry and Crysis, Far Cry 2 is a dull, generic shooter with pretty graphics and a gimmick. Cobbled together trash of a game with repetitive hollow content. Horrible AI and story will will make you wish they had spent less time on "fire propagation" and more on actual content. When you pop the hood to tighten the radiator cap on your Assault Jeep for the fiftieth time you will wish you had steered clear. Mark those reviewers like PC Gamer that gave this 90+ scores. i really can't put my finger on it entirely...something about it just feels cheap. the movement feels extremely awkward, running in particular is pretty crappy as you can't strafe at the same time. no prone? what's up with that? i also don't feel the guns look or feel all that great. a lot of the features that looked cool in preview videos are in reality annoying (car repair,guns jamming) but the malaria thing is actually pretty awesome....just kidding,it's also really annoying. i applaud ubisoft's ambition with this but it ultimately falls flat and is no comparison in quality to anything that crytek or valve puts out.… Expand

It sucks like hell, waste of money... It's just a 'wanna-be' GTA game. But it's in the jungle... The map is huge, and you get shot every 5 seconds... then you have to repair your car... it's almost the only thing you have to do. Like in GTA you go to a point to start a mission and the complete it. But here every mission contains: Get something from somewhere on the other side of the world and bring it back... I cannot understand why so many notable sources give Far Cry 2 such decent reviews. Do these people have such horribly low standards or equipment that this game seems good? This is probably the case. People that are used to sub-standard performance and quality, review games, and do not take into consideration the variables that encompass PC core components. I own above average parts including an EVGA 9800 GX2 SSC graphics card. I also happen to be born right before the PC gaming industry began, therefore I can say with a decent amount of accuracy that Far Cry 2 is a below average game with what some would say is above average graphics. Never have I felt so disappointed by a game that was built up to be great by the manufacturer . The general Far Cry community are up in arms over how they've been duped into spending their hard earned cash by the false advertising of the game . I'm not sure how the critics can praise this game , or even if they have actually played it , as if they have , they would realize that it is simply awful . Enemies respawning , sickness that prevents you from exploring the so called ' vast 50km environment ' which is basically UBI's way of of covering up a huge misrepresentation regarding the freedom of the FC2 world . Repetitive gameplay , no straife ability whilst sprinting , DRM issues , bugs , and what happened to a destructive environment ? Graphics are boring at best , and cheap at worst , and every good thing that was in FC 1 has been removed , and replaced with nothing . Basically a console game that has been sold to PC gamers with lies and false promises . Multiplayer is a joke , from not being able to join servers that have started a match , to stupid tags above every player .... even the enemy . WTF ? At least Okidoki can have a holiday now . This game struggles to be the new top of the line free roaming shooter. The problem is: The free world is dead. Very few animals, no civilians, and the predominant color is brown. Most of the time you are killing fast respawning enemies, and follow boring and repeating missions to gain access to better weapons. The problem is: Even if you are underway to complete a mission for party A their goons fire at you on sight. Everyone fires at you in sight. Come on, thats just stupid! Also negative are the loooong travels.For every 2min of action, you have to rtravel 10min. Every checkpoint is filled with enemies who respawn after 2min. At first, you can circumvent those checkpoints, but in Act 2 you can't anymore, because the area is packed with them. All in all, FC2 is just a open map, with some respawning points, no real story, and no life in it self. Boring boring boring!… Expand

Great graphics, but that is about it! Never felt bored so rapidly in a FPS. Nothing feels real, except the scenery. Stupid ennemies that can take awful damage and respawn in a matter of seconds, unrealistic weapons (snipe rifles without any bullet dispersion or gravity effect). Missions the game forces on you without any relation to the story: why in the hell do I have to do mission for the weapon dealer before I can buy from him. I have diamond, just let me buy!!! Unrealistic (and extremely frustrating) malaria! With african malaria, you would have high fever for about five days and then you would be fine... or dead and that's it! Dumbed down and drab, Far Cry 2 plays like a shallow console port, there's nothing to grip or immerse the player, the whole thing boils down to a bunch of pointless shootouts with some really stupid AI and some driving through bland unremarkable terrain. Half the game's budget must have gone on paying reviewers to lie.

I ordered this game from Steam based on PCZones review (90%? Jon Blyth, what were you thinking!?) and all I got out of it was an overwhelming sense that I'd been completely had. The main missions are poor, the scripting is stupid and hilariously hard to understand (youhavetogoblowthisupokayheresthefilegoodluck!) the main story, as simple as it is, is non-existent through most of the game, the side missions are just as dull (kill x, destroy x, talk to x repeated over and over again) and the AI and constant respawing checkpoints/patrols only succeed in annoying the already bored player. If you were hoping for something that would be similar in game play to Crysis or CoD4 or really any other great FPS, this isn't it. I thought the open map would be awesome. First thing you notice is the field of vision is "off". It's not at the right depth of field for a PC shooter and anyone used to PC shooters knows what I mean. I think it has something to do with them using the same field of view you'd have on X-Box. Anyway, the gameplay is terrible. As a FPS game player, I want to get in, get my kicks and get out. I want to get right into the action. This game prevents that kind of visceral action at every turn. You'll be keeling over from malaria and be respawning back at your hut every 10 minutes. When not passing out from malaria, you'll be driving and driving through jungles. It gets tired after about the 10th time you've done that. As for its shooter merits... it's way way off. The guns just don't quite feel right; the people you're shooting at seem obliquely misaligned in your field of view, so you always feel like you're leaning over while you shoot or something... it's just some sort of bad depth perception that is part of the PC version. It's too bad. I had such high hopes for this game. The original Far Cry is 10x better. This doesn't come near Crysis or CoD4... nowhere near. If these games are 9's then this game is a dismal 1 or 2. My wife got it for me for my birthday and I told her that it was the worst game I've ever played. She said to sell it on Ebay and I think I might. And I am really not over-dramatizing this. Very disappointing really. This game could have been absolutely amazing. The reviews I read, particularly PCG's, led me to believe it WAS absolutely amazing. The mechanics of the game are brilliant even with the sub par AI. But the substance of the game leaves a lot to be desired. There's a lot to play 'with' yet very little to play 'for'. Repetitive missions, that smack of zero effort, are the games biggest pitfall. How PCG can say this game fulfilled their expectations is beyond me. Personally, I expected a lot better. Fun for a blast here and there but don't think you'll become engrossed in the gameplay. After a while, it's just a grind.… Expand

The last time I took a game back to the shop for a refund was 1990 when I had a damaged 3.5" floppy! I'm really tempted to put this in the bin! What a load of rubbish. Probably the most over hyped game of the century and does a dis-service to the mammoth of a game that preceeded it i.e. Far Cry. What Crytek achieved with both Far Cry and Crysis is light years ahead of this rubbish. Boring beyond belief even the map editor doesn't lessen the pain of the purchase as it looks like you can't make a single player mission, only a multiplayer. I thought that this was a good game but not great. It feels like Grand Theft Auto set in Africa from a first person point of view. You go to a marker on the map for sonbody to give you a mission then you steal a car or boat and go to another marker on the map to complete your mission (usally involves shooting lots of people). The graphics are very good but not quite up to Crysis standards and the can look a bit samey in different locations.… Expand

This game wastes your time by making you drive back and forth in your jeep and clearing the same outpost you cleared 5 minutes ago. It purposely tried to make the game repetitive and long. By "open ended game" they mean very repetitive. It's a shame too because the scenery, the engine, the gameplay could have been really well used to make a fun FPS and multiplayer. Could is the key word. I give it a 1 for trying. The user score here of 5.6 is based on 460 votes so its got some weight to it. If you look at this game for the xbox or ps3, you'll see higher user scores, but those are based only a small amount of users. This game is a 2 at best. Nice try, but definitely no cigar.… Expand

I have to agree with many of the fellow reviewers; This game is a let-down; as evidenced by the cheap RRP of the game; at one point I even saw a brand new copy being sold for 15 pounds, despite it being a fairly new release at the time. Now, I don't wish to bore you with my complaints, but I do wish Ubisoft Montreal had spent a bit more time on getting the mechanics just right, and adding some depth to the story. It's already been said, the missions are repetitive and uninspired; the story is practically non-existent and some very basic controls are missing, such as the ability to prone. One aspect is done very well, and this is of course the visuals; they are second only to crysis (from the developers of the original Far Cry) in my opinion, and the fire-propagation system is simply unrivalled. But what seems to have been forgotten is that graphics do not make a game. It is a combination of all key aspects; story, gameplay, atmosphere, etc, and I feel that only the graphical aspect was truly fulfilled. I cannot say that the game is bad, but what could have been brilliant turned out to be mediocre. I believe the series should go back to basics; I think the game should be more story driven like its predecessor, yet retaining some of the freedom that Far Cry 2 brought to the series. I am still optimistic for a third Far Cry game, as I still believe the series can be revived and possibly even surpass the first game. For Far Cry 2 though, I would warn against purchasing it unless you can buy it for a cheap price, and are simply looking for another game to play before adding to your collection.… Collapse

Disappointing, even with the 50% off sale on Steam. The single player game is bugged in several places resulting in not being able to run or fire the weapon. Lots of grumbles about this in the Ubisoft forum. Multiplayer has no game browser, no dedicated servers, and I've been disconnected multiple times and lost the unlocked weapons I've achieved. Ubisoft should have ditched the single player game and polished the MP aspect of it.… Expand

I think a game must have the entertaineing spirit that make us play it, like it, enjoy it. They said, more than 50 hours of gameplay, actually its something like 5 hours of gameplay multiplied by 10, because of it´s repetitive gameplay. Yes, we have games like Mass Effect use the same repetitive thing, but it´s a rpg game, we have a lot of possibilities. FarCry 2 give to us a dubious freedom. We have a excelent (probaly the best) game engine, graphics, physhics, but after a while it gets boring, the fun go away, and the need to reach the endgame turns into a long patience-test, it´s just like capturing the flags on Assassins Creed. FarCry2 has nothing to do with FarCry1 :( They better gave it a totaly new name. the graphic and visual effects are great. I mostly like the spreading fire effect, puting field and trees on fire. some fishes and other underwater creatures could add some more to the atmosphere (we had them in FC1). the engine is great - moving and destroyable objects. I love the big open maps. they looks awsome. the stoy is very boring. missions are very repetative. it's fun driving in these huge maps, but become very annoy after some time - drive, stop, shoot... drive, stop, shoot... all are fighting against me. Am I the real anamy of Africa ? this diamond hunting is stupid. wasn't it nicer if you could have few missions to do and where paid for them ? sometimes you asked to kill a man in the middle of a town, you kill 100 ppl before. 10 minutes after you asked to kill another man in the same town and you kill another 100 ppl.… Expand
