Even though I did have some problems with the game, it still holds a bit of interest to me, and if I had more time, I'd most likely end up playing a bit more of this game to delve even deeper into the unique species offered up.
FG plays fast and boils down to several repeats of each mission as you figure out what happens, where it happens and just what it was you did in order to make it happen. Zero replay value in other words.
What really makes this game rise above its mediocre brethren is not merely the flashy graphics or mildly dramatic storyline. Far Gate stands out amongst a host of independent titles as being one of the few that shows a dramatic effort towards entertainment rather than a quick profit.
The game's difficult interface, unmanageable camera angles, and many technical problems all but overshadow Far Gate's various original qualities.
The bugs. Yes, Far Gate comes complete with a few choice ones, our favourite being the one that will, without warning or ceremony, drop you to the desktop without even an error message.
The developers created an interesting game with some novel features, but they then saddled it with controls that completely negate the experience. [Jan 2002, p.114]
