If there was ever a game to hook a casual player on the charms of dungeon hacking, or absorb an old vet whose time has become a commodity, FATE is it. [Sept 2005, p.48]
One of the best dungeon romps I've played this year. The scale of the adventure may not be epic but the overall package is pure unadulterated addiction. If you like role-playing games then you'll love FATE.
With FATE now arriving to Steam, I figured I should share how great **** it is! This is the precursor to Torchlight and Torchlight II. It's a very simple, loot-fest with a never-ending and randomly-generated dungeon. It's an awesome game, it's easy to pick up and put down, doesn't require a lot of commitment or effort and it's very enjoyable. It now even has 1920x1080 resolution, which I'm pretty sure was a thing of the future when it was released. Some people are complaining about bugs with the Steam version, I've never had a problem with that one or the WildTangent download. This game is a classic, and it deserves no less than a 10/10. Amazingly fun and simple game, and very nostalgic to me and I'm sure a lot of other people that grew up with this game. It has tons of weapons, multiple skills to learn, and a great system to build your character towards a desired style. If you want to be a wizard, upgrade magic and the multiple magic skill perks. If you want to be a warrior, you can upgrade the type of weapon you want to use as well as your strength and dexterity. Tons of different ways to play it that will keep it interesting despite the very simplistic gameplay. Get it!
Addictive, simple, and enormous fun, Fate's only flaw is that the endless dungeons get depressing as the decor incessantly repeats, and that the simple fishing mini-game often nets you ridiculously expensive top-level items. [Sept 2005, p.102]
Fate isn't going to glue new brain cells inside your skull, but it isn't going to murder the ones you have. It's a good time, it really never reaches an end, and it may be the best way to while away the lifetime between now and "Diablo III."
Fate certainly isn’t the most innovative title out there. In fact, it’s quite easily labeled as a "Diablo" clone, and inherits its predecessor’s endlessly repetitive combat and gameplay. However, this game also somehow manages to stay fun hour after hour.
This game is 10/10 for a reason.
It started my gaming addiction it used to be the only game I would play ever time I visited my grandma's house. Without this game I would have never started playing games.
looks semi good too bad the bugs get on the way. i expected more than just repetitive hacknslash bought it for supporting the company tho. Merry christmas to all gamers
