This little game of making games is sure to leave it's mark in history with it's witty marketing campaign, which seriously kicked pirate booty. The game itself is really funny little game for a couple of nights, although after the campaign there's only little to keep you entertained. [June 2013]

What is it like to start with a few thousand dollars and end up in an office full of people producing multi-million gaming hits? This game lets you find out and makes it worth your while. [Nov 2013]

If you liked Game Dev Story, you're probably going to like this one. It's not a huge evolution from that game, but still adds it's own vision and depth to the concept.

Game Dev Tycoon is a fun simulation, perfectly targeted to the (retro-)gaming enthusiast. Some of its mechanics, though, are somewhat simplistic and not 100% coherent, making the overall experience less brilliant than it could have been.

Game Dev Tycoon has some nice bells and whistles and the social commentary and satire on the video game industry is charming at times. The game “has its moments” and “I liked it.” but it still has a limited amount of content that will keep the players coming back for more, and even when they do come back, it will take a while to get into the meat and potatoes of the experience. Still, that first play through was one enjoyable ride down video game history lane.

In other words, unless you're really desperate for a game development simulator and you don't have a mobile gaming device, you can definitely pass on Game Dev Tycoon.

The problem is not that Game Dev Tycoon is a Game Dev Story-clone; the problem is that the game neither brings anything new to the table nor manages to live up to its role model.

When I bought I wasn't sure it'd be any good but I was pleasantly surprised, as the game turned to be really fun.

A big part of the game
is getting game reports and really paying attention to what they say (which is repeated on your interface choices for games). There are many combinations that are important to a game success, including genre, ages, platforms and topics. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is really fun. It gets harder when you progress which I like. I like games that are easy ,but they get harder and harder. I mean I don't know what to say. It's like giving you an easy start and then they give you a challenge.... I don't care what other say. You don't like tycoon games is what I say ,but this game is really fun... How can you hate on such a fun game? Game Dev Tycoon needs an 10/10 and here it is. I rate it 10/10. Really fun I can play it for hours which I agree. 3 hours spend on this game says everything Expand

I could play this game for hours and days. Hard to master as it has a unique mathematical algorithm to rate the games you make based on a number of different variety of mixing. The only problem is... the algorithm can be touchy and picky once you starts combining genres and other 'devices' to a certain topic. So it makes it a bit difficult to get around, but once you get the hang of it, you might be playing it more and more. Expand

Cheap, Fun, Addicting. However, I'm only giving this a 9 out of 10 because of All Games. Those jerks have ruined me from getting so many perfect 10's on Large games. If you're looking for a great time sink, then this is a perfect game for you. Expand

Fun little game, for the first couple playthroughs. Once you figure things out and know how to do well each time there isn't much replay value. It's a fun diversion, but not something you will get 30+ hours out of. Expand

Not only this game is a clone of a much better game, it´s programmed very badly, slowing down your PC performance to a minimum at higher levels of action. If you critisize the developers or question the legal part of potential copyright infridgement, you might get banned from forum. Censorship is something I don ´t expect from honest developers and this must be mentioned. Selling like thieves and behaving like dictators deserves to be pirated. Don ´t buy this crap. Expand
