Gateways is imaginative, no doubt. But to become a '2D-Portal' it needs more challenge and more diversity.

Jokes are in short supply, as is the serene abstraction often associated with modern puzzle games. The platforming segments and spaced-out checkpoints might annoy the more cerebrally focused, but all told they're a fairly minor part of the game.

As a small-scale project and a £3 game, Gateways is a tiny, tidy success. But as an experiment in aperture science, it might need a little more time in the test chamber.

Gateways delivers a tantalising formula of originality. [Nov 2012, p.90]

Brainy platformer in a retro style aspires for the title of a two-dimensional Portal. Its hardcore puzzles are fresh and bring lots of fun. [Sept 2012]
  6. Jul 18, 2012
There's barely a single idea here that hasn't been borrowed from elsewhere, and usually done better - but as a compendium of other people's puzzles it still has its charm.
  7. Sep 13, 2012
Not a feast for the eyes, but there's more than a meal here if you're a glutton for clever, cruel puzzle-based punishment.

Always fascinating, this devious puzzle-platformer makes up for in creativity and charm what it lacks in polish. [Nov 2012, p.81]
