Nothing seems to be finished. The cover system is laughable, the AI as intelligent as an amoeba and the graphics aren't impressive either. The story is totally nuts, too. There are better alternatives out there.
This game isn't perfect, but HEY! It's no CoD or BF. People like to complain about any game that isn't as so called, "perfec'' as CoD, Battlefield, or any big FPS franchise out there. If you can get this game you will be entertained. It's so bad, it makes you laugh. but that's what gaming is about. Sheer fun!
A low budget shooter with unbelievably dumb AI, rather ugly visuals (even though it uses Unreal Engine 3) and ridiculous dialogues. [January 2012, p.64]
I don't get all this 'global disappointment' around the game. Sure, GOCL's budget roots can be traced easily, still people tend to exaggerate the bad points and mindlessly follow other negative opinions. What shall we start with? Plot? It's rather thin, cliche and more an excuse for killing spree of our protagonists. Any inspiration by 80s Arnie movies? Perhaps. Dialogues are usually limited to help us navigate through the level rather than to introduce any depth, still, they seem to be right in the spot. However, the amount of **** during the playtime is quite impressive which I like personally, but I understand people who prefer less juicy language in favour of more elaborate and consistent writing. Let's see the gameplay. Here, I really can't undertstand people who describe the game as unplayable. What's wrong with the game mechanics itself? It's nearly identical with GOW, SOCOM and other notable TPS titles. An if I say 'IDENTICAL', I really mean it, FFS! So the same **** thing is good in one title and wrong in another? C'mon, you must be jokin'! The game itself is mainly around the cover-based shootouts but at points we participate in scripted vehicle sequences which aren't that bad and keep tension. Gameplay is generally slick, we don't get stuck or suffer from unfair moments, covers are well placed and allow for different options during the fight. It has some moments which are quite memorable but I'd rather not reveal plot. Unfortunately, AI is no good, really. Our foes are usually blind, deaf and handicaped in any way. They either run straight upon us or pretend not to see us at all. If they sit behind the cover, they usually stick to it, however, sometimes they also change positions and try to shoot us from different angle. I haven't noticed any illogical ambushes by popping up from behind which is good. What about technical side? Game has some serious bugs which, unfortunately, spoil the overall impression. What's more, they are seen reqularly throughout the game. The graphics, sadly, doesn't seem to be on par with AAA titles or even decent budget titles and is apparently rushed and repetative. Everything shines and blurs as in 2006 games. Still, it's not the worst one you ever see, it just serves its purpose. Well, I wonder about the location design - they seem not quite authentic and life-like. Animations are stiff and there are no facial expressions whatsoever. Pity, especially that we have already 2011, sigh. I also miss throwing foes into the air with grenades. Well, we can do it on some occasions (e.g. if enemy is in the air while jumping through the obstacle) but I'd expect more spectacular deaths. There are some cutscenes which are brief and rather uninspired. Low budget, again? ;) Soundwise it's nothing near Battlefield series, still it's suitable. Some weapons sound better some weak, my favourite one is the submachine gun. Main heroes' voice acting is even comparable with some bigger titles, still their lines tend to be amusing and rather low brow. Enemies shout in their mother languages which is good. To sum up, the game doesn't deserve that much of negative aura, it's just a typical budget AAA-wannabe. BTW., I've gone through the whole game, looked at the credits and my jaw dropped - cannot believe that such a microscopic team managed to release such a title. Luckily, they'll release more polished games in the future, maybe they should aim at smaller titles with more innovative gameplay. I wish them luck.
This game forgets everything that game development has learned over the last 10 years. No crouch. No jump. Character dialogue that makes one cringe. No HUD for heavy weapons. Worthless AI teammate -- he literally walks into your line of fire. Repeatable AI spawn triggers -- reloading a weapon at a certain place will spawn AI every time. Unable to fire from cover -- have to leave cover and expose self to enemy fire. Game is so linear that any attempt to deviate results in your character dying. Teammate AI will point out enemies with RPG but doesn't say where they are at!
The game developer managed to screw up the controls and options as well. No ability to change keyboard maps. No ability to set AA or vert sync. No ability to do much of anything except for set screen resolution and control sound/music volume. No manual saves either -- just stupid checkpoints.
The missing controls come into play when your corrector is order to take down an enemy sentry silently. At no point in the game is the player told how to do that! The solution is to sneak up on the sentry and press F. No where in the game is F mentioned!
Dialogue in this game makes me cringe. Imagine the movie "Commando" but with worse dialogue and more curse words. It's almost as if the developer threw in the curse words to compensate for the lack of actual content and conversation!
I won't comment on the graphics. The game is powered by the Unreal 3 engine so it looks like crap. The graphics aren't even the worst part of this game. They would be tolerable if the game wasn't so fundamentally flawed in other areas.
This game is overpriced at $25.49 (Steam @ 10/27/2011) and is overpriced at $10.00. It is a truly frustrating experience. I almost feel like the game developer should pay me for having to play this truly awful game.
Yes, I'm playing the game right **** of spite. I want to beat this game as soon as possible then get it off my computer. That's how bad it is. Avoid unless you have a good supply of aspirin.
You know when you see a B-52 bomber on the opening dialog, which shows it "crash" landing in snow and showing 3 engines under each wing? You know that's absolute absurdity since "I" actually crew chiefed them back in the early 80's in the Air Force. Oh **** game graphics are actually bad, the gameplay is worse, and the A.I. is terrible. I had a good laugh when I saw the opening, and should have known I was in for worse to come. Don't waste your time, I uninstalled it after 6 minutes. Note for the developers....make sure your information is at least "factual" when you do games in the future.
SummaryThe story starts back in January 21, 1968, when a B-52G bomber carrying thermonuclear bombs on board crashes in the Artic Sea of North Star Bay near Thule Airbase. The search party finds the wreckage and three bombs, but the fourth is missing…
