  1. Hours of enjoyment, but not overly original.

It's fun. It's not the best thing ever, but it has enough charm, cuteness, and campiness to at least put a smile on your face and give you an easy 20 hours of gaming.
  3. If you can deal with the culture clash and with the typical shortcomings of translations from consoles, then you're likely to find that Grandia II can provide plenty of charm and plenty of fun.
  4. "Childish" and "derivative" could also be used to describe the graphics.
  5. Being a big proponent of console RPGs and console games in general, I highly recommend this to curious PC owners.
  6. Those who prefer their RPGs to be the more serious experience typical of PC games might be better off passing on it.
  7. A truly beautiful-looking game, it just lacks originality in storyline and challenge.
  8. The most obvious flaw in Grandia II is the music. It's pretty unpleasant, and often incongruous with the on-screen happenings.
  9. 70
An incredibly linear story, limited save points, and slightly behind-the-curve graphics move Grandia 2 as a PC RPG to the category of merely "pretty good."
  10. The great battle system, the witty main characters, and the play length aren't enough to overcome the lackluster graphical updates and the fact that the game doesn't really work for anyone who has bought a computer since October of last year. [May 2002, p.92]
  11. Hardcore D&D fans looking to fill the gap before the next Black Isle or BioWare release should avoid this one like a high-level beholder. [Apr 2002, p.72]
  12. If you really want to play the game (and it's worth playing), you're better off buying a used Dreamcast and playing the original version of the game on that.

Fantastic game! Very good story, although a few hours too long. It seemed that the game was close to the end, but then a new twist kept it going. YFZ said he beat the game in 17 hours, I can't see how that is possible, unless he did not speak to any NPC characters while in town. It took me 45 hours to finish the game, and I spoke to every character 6 times (3 times before and after major game events). Each time, the character said something different or added more details to the story, which I found very cool. The writers should be commended on being thorough. The anime graphics fits the game perfectly. Music and sound were good, except for a few minor complaints. The music would sometimes end abruptly, instead of gradually fading out. The characters were interesting, and the story had plenty of twists and turns. I found myself caring about what happened to the team of characters, and really felt sad when I lost one that I had fought alongside. The fighting system and available spells were varied enough that I never became bored with battles. Fights between your characters and the enemies were well balanced. The battles were never too easy or too hard. One reviewer mentioned translation errors. I never witnessed a single error. It was well written and richly conveyed the story. The story is original and unpredictable. Another reviewer commented that the game is unplayable on newer systems. I have a Pentium 3 Ghz with ATI video card and Soundblaster, and did not experience any video or audio problems. All in all, well worth the price of admission. Full Review »

This is the best rpg ive ever played! It was a little short, because i beat the game in 17 hours, but i definitely will play this agian. The combat system is great, but they really should have made the storyline longer, and have more than one ending. Full Review »
