  • Summary: After generations of oppression, Tarnum discovers his people's true history and leads an army of Stronghold troops against their tyrannical masters. Marching from the arid roughlands of his homeland and the muggy swamps of the lowlands, he follows and even surpasses the deeds of his legendary ancestor who defeated these spellcasters long ago. 1. The game sounds better than it looks.
  2. What we have here is an extension of the original with a much better and generally more compelling storyline. This does not detract from the amount of fun you can potentially have with this title.
  3. The story has strength and depth, but the game structure is rather clumsy for storytelling purposes.
  4. If this product has a failing point, it has to be the graphical elements. But then again, this program is built so that just about anyone with a Pentium computer can play it.
  5. The missions themselves are fairly long, and you might grow weary of having to use the same set of units toward the end of the game.
  6. 60
It's just a little too light on the amount of gameplay included to recommend to veteran HOMM fans.
  7. There are no unique units, no improved visuals and all of the sound effects remain the same. Warlords of the Wasteland also lacks a map editor and multiplayer options. The replay value plummets for fans of Heroes of Might and Magic and even newcomers to the series.

The game was overall enjoyable, if not a little too casual. If you played Heroes of Might and Magic 3 before playing this game (I suggest you should try HoMM 3 first), you won't have much difficulties beating this game even at Impossible difficult. This chapter however has one hard last level (out of 8) which will require some skill. If you buy this game, you won't buy it for the challenge or the game mechanic as it is already included in HoMM 3, but you buy it for the story, as the story is really good and is a part of the main hero: Tarnum's tale. If you only read the summary on wikipedia page, you won't get the whole things, there are more than that in the game. Expand
