Another improvement is in the deliberate simplicity of the interface which is designed to keep the screen as uncluttered as possible and to issue commands with the minimum amount of keystrokes.
  2. It takes all that was good about the original, improves every element, successfully adds new features and delivers a well-rounded game that will demand more from you than perhaps any other title you'll play this year.
  3. An example of British resilience, striving on against daft AI.
  4. In North America, where big bangs, high production values and cinematic 'rail shooters' reign supreme, the hint of frustration and subtle depth that Hidden and Dangerous 2 offers might not be so alluring, but for fans of the original, you owe it to yourself to try it out, even if you can no longer play the campaigns through with your friends.
  5. A very detailed, historic 3rd person shooter. I actually chose this game over "Call of Duty" - and I do not regret it. Great graphics, great stealth teamplay, good replay value, and a very nice campaign, all lead to a sequel ten times better than the original.
  6. Hidden & Dangerous 2's real strength lies in its multi-layered approach. With Lone Wolf and Carnage modes for action addicts, and team control for the more thoughtful player, its depth and emphasis on stealth means that it's yet another quirky classic.
  7. If you enjoy military action games, especially detailed simulations with sophisticated commands, an overwhelming interface, difficult missions, and an RPG skill system then Hidden & Dangerous 2 is the game you have been looking for.
  8. There is a great game here underneath the AI problems, bug issues and control problems.
  9. Strong level design, good graphics, excellent action and tactical controls and considerable depth all add up to something worth buying. Even subtracting the wonky first-person shooter controls, grade A bugs and iffy AI still isn’t enough to knock the shine off this diamond in the rough.

If you like tactical shooters and you're into WWII, you must have this game. [Jan 2004, p.112]
  11. The game's only letdown comes from the very occasional glitch whose presence is sadly amplified by the precise nature of play, but these minor flaws have to be put into perspective against the sheer quality and quantity on offer that makes H&D2 stand out from everything else in its class. [Christmas 2003, p.104]
  12. Edge Magazine
One of the finest WWII games of recent memory. Hidden & Dangerous 2 manages to distract you from errors that would cripple a lesser game through its sheer ambition and scale. [Christmas 2003, p.120]

There are moments of brilliance in HD2, but also stretches of tedium and excessive saved game reloading, since you only have a few men and are usually working in stealth.

I'd certainly sign on for another tour of duty, especially if the guys who created my interface iron out some of the glitches. In all, I'd say this is a compelling World War II experience.
  15. Ultimately creates a frustrating experience stemming from both the deep difficulty and buggy programming. But, underneath these problems lies an extremely realistic and engaging squad-based combat sim.
  16. The atmosphere, graphics, scope, versatility and ultimately fun gameplay keeps the bad bits in check enough to keep you up long hours coming back for more.
  17. It's often frustrating to play, and it's frustrating to see that there's clearly a wonderful game hidden amongst the major bugs, cumbersome controls, questionable AI, and other flaws.
  18. If you like the WW2 shooters and prefer the stealth and sniper aspects then this game is for you. Want something revolutionary? Then keep looking.
  19. Despite the aforementioned bugs and drawbacks, I had plenty of fun with this game. NONE of the bugs or downsides were frustrating enough to seriously diminish the gameplay experience.
  20. Computer Gaming World
A really good game hampered by the same pesky bugs and problematic A.I. as the original. [Feb 2004, p.78]

If you can get past the quirks of the AI, Hidden and Dangerous 2 still is a fun game to play. Sure, stealth doesn't really work out well, but the action is rewarding when enemies don't space out.
  22. Should be a hands-down epic masterpiece but is unfortunately tarnished by a litany of problems that should have been addressed before its release. If it wasn’t so doggoned much fun to play, it would be easy to write off because of its betimes infuriating downsides.
  23. Though the campaign is long, you could pack all of the action into a container half of the size of the "Max Payne 2" quest. [Jan 2004, p.156]
  24. 60
The missions are more engaging, the environments more detailed, and the graphics substantially improved. Sadly, the interface has become unnecessarily complicated, and the few bugs that exist upset the game's flow.
  25. Computer Games Magazine
Has very strong and very weak points, and much of the time the urge to see what's around the next corner only barely surpasses the urge to throw your hands up and walk away. [Feb 2004, p.76]
  26. A decent World War 2 tactical game, marred by extensive bugs, design flaws, and, yes, a lack of co-op support. Maybe when it's patched up it'll be worth your hard-earned dough, but for the time being, only die-hard fans or gamers that don't demand much out of their games will want to pick it up.

H&D2 was the first tactical-shooter game that I played, and I loved it right away. I have to admit that in fact it was the first real war gameH&D2 was the first tactical-shooter game that I played, and I loved it right away. I have to admit that in fact it was the first real war game that I've ever played. However, H&D2 was different from Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, in fact contained in itself more strategy and tactical processing.

The game maps were large, and free-roaming. The graphics of H&D2 (in 2003, at least) was really magnificent. You could choose between 30 different soldiers, each with their own skills, to meet the playing style of the user. Also you could choose whether to command a team or perform missions in solitary style, as Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell.

The historical and military depth of the game was really impressive: all operations were constructed in detail, accurately. Not to mention the secondary objectives, obviously secrets. Also there were a myriad of weapons, not only of the Allies or the Axis, you can use, besides the use of voluntary explosives, such as TNT and No-74 ST. In H&D2 there wasn't a way to play better than another, in fact you could adapt different styles: attack in unison, or stealth and disguise. The uniforms also were among the better things made in the game. The tactical map had its usefulness, at least when in need to fight as a team.

You could organize your own men, and give orders to attack, defend or even interaction, depending on the situation. The depth of the plot was really exciting: you feel completely immersed in the history not only of the game, but of the entire World War II. The soundtrack was quite nice. It was impossible that a game of this type could not please me, or any other fan of fps.

One of the best fps games of all time.
