The problem I found is that it felt like the RTS equivalent of button mashing; if I lost, I'd just as soon turn it off than feel all that compelled to try a different "strategy". A shame really, because there's nothing technically wrong with the game.

Essentially a no-frills score attack game with base-capture, twin-analogue shooter and real-time strategy elements all rolled into one. Its lacking content and technical niggles give it a cheap, rushed feel, yet it still manages to provide a surprisingly carrot-on-a-stick, addictive experience with just the right level of complexity for its 10-minute missions.

All in all, Hoard is a decently rounded game that only needs a little bit of polishing to finish off its great game design and put itself on the list of titles that will probably have a cult following for years to come.

Hoard is a very fun multiplayer game, not only for the pleasure of becoming a dragon and terrorize villagers, but also for the intense and dynamic mechanics its gameplay offers.

Fun and motivation are two things that Hoard lacks most.

The board game styled maps, and even the sound effects in this game are well done and flow together to make an original experience. It is well put together and can easily suck you in for hours, even when you're playing by yourself! Hoard is almost like a strategy game, but quicker and more destructive than most. If you enjoy quick game play and hectic atmospheres, Hoard sure does pack a hefty and addicting punch.

Hoard is a fantastic game because of the complex strategies available that have been boiled down into 10 minute chunks of gaming.

Although the basic gameplay of Hoard is fun and entertaining, the game offers little content. It's also a game that you have to play with friends. Luckily all of the game modes are playable online.

It's a great game to share with friends.

Still, Hoard's multiplayer design accomplishes exactly what it set out to do: provide quick and well paced matches between rival dragons looking for more shiny coins wrapped nside a design that is deceptively deep. This is 10 bucks well spent.

Hoard is quite an addictive little casual game when it gets going, but ruins it by giving the player no satisfaction from winning or reason to continue after one level.

An intuitive and hectic burn-fest. But it may well cost you some friendships.

This is a game that benefits from simple design. Supported by well-executed mechanics and a very cheap price tag, Hoard is the perfect game for anyone seeking a quick fix.

Check back a few weeks from now to see if Hoard has been patched. Add [twenty] points to my score if the crashing, text pop-up weirdness, and graphical issues some users are experiencing have been addressed. For now, buy at your own risk.

Hoard is a refreshing little multiplayer game that lets you be the bad guy for a change. Designed for short matches against other players, it's a somewhat limited experience, but burninating the countryside is definitely a lot of fun.

Burning villages and abducting princesses for ransom as a loot-hungry, fire-breathing dragon might be fun on the PS3 version, but Hoards PC port is riddled with beastly bugs that'll make you wish you'd hoarded your money. [Aug 2011, p.76]

An original concept and deceptively complex time-waster. [June 2011, p.73]

The game itself is mediocre at best. The gameplay is way too fast and hectic for my taste, and a single game is rarely more than 5 minutes of playing. The fast gameplay doesn't sit well with keyboard control and I'll highly recommend a D-pad type controller.
There is 4 different game modes, but it all boils down to the same: burn, kill and plunder.
This game is good fun if you can't find anything else to do, but it gets old pretty fast.

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. The concept of the game is nice, but the implementation is lacking. The game is very unstable and crashes a lot. Controlling your dragon is very unintuitive. I wasn't able to find partners for online games. All in all it's a nice little game for a few hours but it gets old fast. Full Review »
