The story is what really what makes Iron Storm rock!
The game's story manages to draw through its limitations, and the shoot-em-up gameplay is enjoyable for the segments when it's not so tough we're tearing our hair out.

Not for the easily frustrated, but unique enough to attract serious FPS fans. [Jan 2003, p.116]
Though it sets up nicely with a strong storyline, it really just becomes another mission-based shooter game.
Iron Storm does look and feel dated because of the graphics, and because of the type of gamplay that is offered. While it does feel like a complete game, and while I did feel satisfied playing it, it left me felling like the storyline should have been done justice.
Fail[s] to live up to its potential. What's left is simply a frustrating and tedious single-player game.
Isn't as bad as getting trench foot or being castrated by shrapnel, but it's still so full of tedium and frustration that paying for the game is pretty much an act of self-flagellation. [Feb 2003, p.98]
