  • Summary: Real Time Spaceflight and Combat are but two elements in this Massively Multiplayer Online Spaceflight Simulation. Team up with others to actually "re-create" a universe with all that such an enterprise entails. Interact with squadron members and wayward travelers, struggle to stay on course in the face of solar storms, and battle mysterious adversaries (both human and alien). [3DO] Collapse

  1. Jumpgate's gameplay is what makes it a success - Wing Commander-style simplicity combined with some great in-game physics.
  2. It successfully incorporates the trading elements of "Elite" and "Privateer," the combat elements of "Freespace" and "Wing Commander," a lighter version of "Independence War"'s realistic physics, and all the level-gaining and experience bonuses that make online role-playing games so addictive.
  3. It’s not perfect, it does get tedious at the start as you’re trying to level up, it’s not for everyone, but for those brought up on Elite you’ll love it.
  4. It has flaws, most notably unimpressive graphics and an agonizingly slow start, but it has everything that made "Privateer" great, and then some. [Mar 2002, p.84]
