  1. The game is in fact in real time, but as you have absolute control of game speed, you can slow it down sufficiently for it to be considered to be turn-based. Hence, this game presents the ideal combination for fans of both types of strategies.
  2. All the elements of Kohan add up to the most fun I’ve had with a real-time strategy release -- with the least amount of micromanagement.
  3. This is a true PC gamer's game, complete with unfettered intention, esoteric style, and remarkable depth.
  4. For a true PC RTS to surpass the lazy day couch and button mash of a console classic, it must be fun! Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns is.
  5. Kohan is the slickest, most polished, and the most entertaining fantasy strategy game to come along in a very long time.
  6. This is a great game for those who tire of the endless tank-rushes of real-time strategy games past. Victory is determined not by the speed of the clicks, but rather the strength of decisions.
  7. One of the most innovative real-time strategy games we have come across in recent years, reinvigorating the genre with features more usually found in turn-based titles.
  8. TimeGate Studios have wrapped the entire title in a scintillating storyline.
  9. A real gem. It offers carefully balanced, elegant gameplay that will challenge your brain rather than your double-click speed.
  10. Breaks RTS conventions the way the Taliban break Buddhist statues.
  11. It does a fantastic job stripping away the boring, monotonous aspects of most RTS games and manages to focus almost solely on the fun stuff.
  12. Kohan took a chance by applying some new ideas to real-time strategy and it's gamers who will reap the rewards.
  13. Unique and beautifully presented. Kohan is a great example of the strategy genre at its finest. Simple concepts are interwoven with genius to build a compelling and easy to play game with a high replay factor.
  14. Kohan's few shortcomings don't diminish the fact that it brings together a variety of proven concepts to offer a real-time strategy experience unlike any other.

By far, this game has one of the simplest, yet all-encompassing interfaces I've seen in awhile.
  16. The original storyline combined with innovative new ideas for RTS games will even keep the interest of players not historically attracted to this genre.
  17. It may not be the best game on the market in either the civilization or strategic warfare genre, but it is a terrific combination of both.
  18. A strategically intelligent game with a polished edge keen enough to slice through many jaded preconceptions about the future of RTS titles.

Its fresh approach and excellent implementation give us high hopes that TimeGate will continue surprising us with future titles.
  20. First-time game developer TimeGate Studios has a winner on its hands. [June 2001, p.82]
  21. Strikes a near perfect balance between solid RTS gameplay with an epic, fantasy storyline.

Fantastic game for it's time. It had the unique concept of companies rather than individual units which greatly reduced the combat micro allowing greater focus on battle strategy. This was complimented by a great economic model that got rid of the 'resource gatherer' and construction micro of Warcraft series, The biggest drawback to the game was the multi player match making which could not compete with Battlenet.
