Krater makes me sad... It has a lot of potential.

This Earth-hole is worth exploring. This surprising adventure is fresh, long and visually stunning. [July 2012]

Krater offers an interesting take on post-apocalyptic games and utilizes strategic maneuvers while engaged in combat, but it felt a bit dragged out and of course, I went a little click happy. Although the story was okay, I felt that the gameplay was repetitive and the point-and-click tactic was getting tired.

Krater presents an intriguing world, a new take on character development and clever design but at the same time the design choices to support its interesting mechanics are the negatives.

If I were to jugde Krater by dismantling it into small parts and giving a grade to each one, this grade would be a 6. Krater has a spark and ideas, there's a lot of content and good fun, but there's also some boredom and repetitiveness. There was not enough time to polish the game. Krater has a lot of potential that will be used under two conditions: some of you will trust Fatshark and buy their game, and Fatshark will keep its promise and expand the game.

Krater has a lot of good things going for it: an original setting (post-apocalyptic Sweden!), a fresh take on ARPG leveling mechanics, a moody soundtrack… Sadly, the monotonous and boring combat makes playing it a chore. Kudos for Fatshark for actively patching their game, but only time will tell whether the potential will ever be fulfilled. [Aug 2012]

A rather enjoyable ARPG, with some nice ideas but a bad implementation that makes it frustrating at times.

Humoristic role playing in a post apocalyptic Sweden. An enthralling world, but sadly the game feels unfinished in several aspects.

Krater is an action RPG, set in an apocalyptic Sweden, that puts you in charge of a group of mercenaries intent on misbehaving for money. Despite excellent production values and bizarre humor, the game play might be too shallow to keep your interest for long.

I really came into this game wanting to like it. As I said in my preview of the alpha version, it showed promise. That promise just never seems to be realized in the final version of the game.

Repetitive environments and enemies, lack of satisfying character development and very limited selection of gear – after a while Krater gets monotonous. [August 2012, p.73]

Krater is an honest hack and slash with a colorful graphic and strong dialogues. Although the shallow combat system and the poor level design drag down its appeal.

Krater is a fresh new take on the action role-playing game. It offers a unique setting, interesting character development and many cool ideas, but becomes very repetitive after a while. More sidequests, bosses and unique environments would have helped a lot.

I could forgive the sub-par progression if Krater's battles were more interesting, but the optimal tactical approach is often obvious and the encounters don't vary much. What's there is fun, but it wears thin quickly as there's little room for improvisation or innovation in battle.

Krater plays decently, and all the right ingredients are here. But it feels like the chef messed up in the kitchen, and combined them into a dish that may be worth eating, but is hard to recommend.

There are lots of bugs and the leveling system is questionable, but the humour and unique gameplay are a plus.

There is an interesting backstory to the world of Krater, even if it isn't fully realized.

A massive overworld combined with a playful lick of humor doesn't mask Krater's wasted promise and grindy design. [Oct 2012, p.66]

Krater makes a fresh first impression, but beneath the surface, you find generic combat and frustrating design elements.

Krater could have been much more, but its multiple flaws, frustrating character progression and repetitive combat end up wasting the game. Despite this, it offers quite a lot of content for an affordable price.

Ultimately, Krater is a somewhat enjoyable action-RPG with some neat ideas and great personality. Sadly, personality doesn't mean it's a great game and some of the design choices make it hard for me to easily recommend this title to anyone who has yet to play any of the other brilliant action-RPGs on the market.

Krater could have been a wonderful game but messes up in the gameplay department. The gameplay tends to get repetitive and the story isn't that great. Krater has turned out to be a pretty weak start of a franchise.

Unfortunately the gameplay is riddled with weird and detrimental quirks, like your ranged characters standing right next to your melee characters (making them easy fodder for foes) with no way to change their formation, maps that get confusing when you change the rotation of your viewpoint, clicking on obvious targets not registering as you hit the wrong pixel - all wrapped up in a difficulty curve that forces grinding the same boring maps over and over.

Punishing players for staying the course through lengthy grind sessions seems counterintuitive when the idea is to generally keep people playing.

I have no idea what game these professional reviewers have been playing. Krater is most likely the cheapest extreme fun and entertainment II have no idea what game these professional reviewers have been playing. Krater is most likely the cheapest extreme fun and entertainment I have ever gotten. This game is way different than most everything else on the market, and in a good way!

Not only that, but from the looks of it, the developers are heavily invested in getting this game to be the best it possibly can, with patches hitting daily so far, adding content, fixing bugs, and implementing suggestions from the users.

This game is not for everyone, but 2/10 is just plain ignorant, especially with the reviews AAA titles are getting these days.
