The game has its fair share of aggravating glitches, but manages to simulate the feel of the show and offer up a substantial crime scene experience at the same time.
This is definitely one for the mystery and adventure gaming crowds, but may quickly become a novelty for gamers of other genres.
If you enjoy easy-going, slow-paced games, if you like watching the “Law & Order” television series (or, really, any police procedural series), or if you just have some time to kill, then you might like Criminal Intent well enough.
If you are extremely patient, a fan of the show, and are willing to stomach and fight through the bugs, then this might be worth your time. With four cases and about 12-15 hours of gameplay (plus all the loading time), you'll have at least a weekend to occupy yourself.
The switch to third-person perspective is unwelcome as Goren awkwardly lumbers and can even become stuck, marching on the spot. Other frustrating technical glitches abound.
While fans of the show may be more forgiving of its glacial sized flaws and see past the shoddy exterior to the gold that's probably hidden somewhere deep within, this as an adventure game that's too old, too boring and too broken to be of much enjoyment to all but the most hardcore of Law & Order fans.
System-wide bugs, which range from the entertaining (my character did a jumping jack each time he left his office) to the annoying (pathfinding issues) to the aggravating (frequent desktop crashes). [Jan 2005, p.106]
