People who obviously can't run the game and have terrible system specs should not even rate the game!!! This is by far the nicest and best flight sim recently released. Yes it has bugs and that is the ONLY reason it did not get a 10 from me... Once the patch comes out it may be a 10... I agree game was released premature but graphically and physically this is one sweet sim... All the crying is from folks that have outdated or obsolete OS's and system specs that probably couldn't run PAC MAN in it's true form... Tired of all the whining... Expand

The game is beautiful, deep, fun to play, but it is a simulation, and it will need the gamer to wish to go in deep. A big computer is needed to fully appreciate it though, and some issues REALLY need a patch. Overall, if you like jets, go get it :)

A very good game for you modern day simulator freaks. It will take some tweaking to get to run at full effeciency though, and it will take a pretty powerful system. Nevertheless, a very good game that I'd recommend if you've waited for a A-10 simulator for a long time.

This game is the best of its kind out right now. Might have something to do with no other developers having the balls to make games of this type anymore but I find myself playing only this title over all the others I own of this genre. I have read of some issues for other players but I can honestly say that it runs great on my sytem. My system is as follows: P4 2.40GHz GeForce4 Ti4600 SB Live 512DDR ASUS P4PE Like I said, this game runs great on my system with everything set to max except for water detail wich I have set at Medium. The game play is very challenging and very, very immersive. They did a great job and getting this sim as realistic as they could. I cant say enough about the graphics of this title, I really cant. Overall I give this game two thumbs up and am recommending it to all hardcore flight simmers whom I know and or run acctoss, its really that good. Expand

Going to be a great game but not yet. The bugs and the lack of a decent written manual by the publishers [UBI soft] mean I give it a 6. Now maybe in six months when the bugs have been addressed in a patch or two....I would love to revise this score.

This is an ambitious survey sim with an eye to detail. It's a little rough in its current form, but a patch or two from the responsive developers will iron that out in no time. Fabulous gameplay and graphics (though a top machine is required), as well as first class mission builder and multi-player elements are worth your money. It's also playable by a wide range of sim pilots - beginners to experts. Remember - every sim has its share of bugs! Buy this one - you won't regret it. Expand

This game was meant to push hardware to the limits like so many other flight sims in the past.. F4, F18, etc..etc.. Each are still being played today. If you want a fun smooth arcade game, go back to a XBox. You want to simulate a flight experience in a smooth enviroment (medium setting will do just fine for most people), then this game is for you. 2 bad points. 1. UBISoft's cheapskate tendencies showed up with a manual that is barely readable. (tho this has been rectified with a higher res version on the website) 2. Some game play bugs that effect most older hardware/OS users. These are being address in the first patch, which is expected before this year's end. Like F15, F18, F4 and others, they were as buggy if not worse in some instances during their intial release. Instant gratification types (XBOX PS2 types) need not apply with this game. I enjoy it immensely and have the time of my life with it. Expand

Superb flight characteristics, The graphics effects will knock your socks off. At first glance you will notice the beautifull flight models and enviormental and lighting effects(unsurpassed) but you will need to spend a lot more time in the game to really appreiciate its genius. One note however it dont get frusttrated with getting the grphics set correctly. With some patience and research you can fine tune the sim to run on your system provided it is not near or below recommended. Definetly a must have! Expand

This is truly the state of art combat flight simulation. There may be initial problems in getting the game to be playable. But once finely tuned I feel NO OTHER SIM COMES CLOSE!!! Could be good, but too many glitches and problems. Its really no better than the demo. I really don't think that it has the same accuracy and attention to functional detail as the likes of falcon 4 or Janes f18. More of just an eye pleaser with lots of bugs.

Very great flight modelling and graphics, plays very smoothly on my mid-end system (once effects are set to low or none). My only complaint is that they only included a handful of missions--only 7 for A-10 for instance. Yes you can build your own missions, but then they aren't too fun to play. The lack of missions knocks this game down from a 10 to an 8.

A great game is here, but it obscurred by the numerous release bugs. If the first/second patches address the major playability bugs, then I would give this game a solid 9 or even a 10 for it's great depth of realism and many aircraft. I have'nt had 99% of the problems people list below, runs great on my winXP system, I dont have a completely top of the line PC but with settings on mostly medium, runs great and considering the graphics and details its the closest thing you'll get to flying a combat jet (and not just 1 but several!) A patch ot two should fix the problems people are having and theres NO pc game that has'nt needed a patch soon after release. While i was very disappointed at the begin (LOMAC would crash with my DirectX7 card on a Geforce4), i am increasingly developing a greater interest for this sim. Although i need to set my effects to none (a patch might make it possible to play Lomac with effects set at least to low), i'm exploring all the facets of this wonderfully programmed game. Going from free flight to complex missions created with the internal mission editor (which should be improved in terms of more editing freedom), Lomac finally hooked me up and i can say it definatelly was worth the long wait and... the initial struggles to have this product run at all on my XP2000-512mb ram-GF4MX400 system. The upcoming patches might raise my initial rate of 7 to a full blown 10. Expand

This game is in dire need of some more work. Too many things were left unfinished and the amount of bugs and the fact that members of the community have to rely on third party programs to run the game with the joystick they have is just upsetting. This is a very well balanced game. It's not dauntingly difficult, yet it definitely qualifies as a serious sim. By choosing to model aircraft without ground radar, it's accessible and immersive with a moderate learning curve. However, Ubi rates a 1. As far as I am concerned, Ubisoft is one of the premier game publishers on the market, and I have many of their titles. However, they seem to have dropped the ball with Lock On. I have an average system, and the program works decent for me, but there are so many people that simply can't play the game even though they meet the minimum requirements. I think that that is poor craftsmanship on their part, and I hope that they are able to address it with their current code. Expand

I never thought I'd remove Flanker 2.5 from my HD before I bought this game. Absolutely amazing. Despite some teething problems, it's most definitely a top notch flight sim, and one of the most sastifying simulations of modern era air combat I've ever seen. The fact that it focuses on excellent workhorse planes that have often been overlooked in previous titles in favor of countless F-16, F/A-18 and F-22 sims is even more of a plus. When this game is fully patched, and some of the problems worked out, I fully expect this to be a 10 rated game. Expand

This project was a ambitious one from the start. This sim is ground breaking and do to the complexe code and ambitious development team have the best flight sim ever created. Its a shame that people who could really get into this game would rather rant and in return put this great sim out to paster before they let it breed and give the flight sim community a successful future of addons and patchs to enjoy for some time. If you enjoy jet simulations, this is a must. The graphics are far above anything else I've seen. All of the aircraft are modeled very accurately, graphically and in the flight model. The sound is very immersive. The AI will give you a good fight even on average setting. The difficulty is easy to tweak for begginers and hardcore flightsim enthusiasts, such as myself. You will have to spend a fair amount of time learning how to play the game to become succefull in the missions especially on full realism. This game does require a well built gaming rig, because the game was designed to take full advantage of current high end devices and next generation devices. But, with a little tweaking to the graphics, you can still run this game very well on a standard gaming rig like mine. Even on the lowest graphic setting, the game looks great. There are still some bugs that need to be addressed, but no game stoppers. Win98 users may have some difficulty, but the developers have already stated that this is fixed in the next patch. The game has not once crashed to desktop on my Win2000 machine. The developers are very dedicated to this game and have spent a lot of effort staying in touch with the community before and after the launch and will continue to do so. The community is very dedicated and have been able to answer all of my questions on the official forums very quickly. Expand

If you gave this sim less than a 7, what friggin' planet are you on? This baby is astonishing, and the futures so bright I gotta wear shades. It's clear UBI and Eagle Dynamics plan to support this for quite some time. It needs a patch, more than one probably, but what is already there is great. I've been waiting a long time for this game. It's been in the works for a long time. I enjoy Falcon 2, Flanker 2, USAF and have been a flight simmer for many, many years. (I'm 51.) Lomac, sadly, must be reviewed and rated on what it is right now rather than what it plans and hopes to be within a patch (or two or three). Lock ups. Missing textures. Bugs aplenty, unfortunately. However, I did enjoy the demo. If you want to fly a fun mission with the A10 (though I think the A10 model is boshed up too) then download the demo and wait on the game. Honestly, I think something's wrong with some of the files on the Lomac CD. For instance, the controlini file keeps overwriting your preferences and cannot be made to be a solely "Archive" file. It keeps reverting to be a "Read Only" and overwrites your preferences. I'll keep looking for a good future for Lomac, but I don't intend to be a beta tester. Expand

Stunning graphics. It would only lack some minor post processing to be photorealistic (well, major). Very beautiful game. I read a lot of praises about Flanker's Flight Model (never played it) and so I expected it to impress me in Lock-on as well, I think it's good but still a bit "itchy" and lacks the smoothness of IL-2. The mission editor seemed pretty much excellent to me as it allows (with a scary ammount of settings at first) large scale missions. Like some reviewers mentionned, bugs & hard to find combo of drivers & stuff make it kinda hard to approach, without mentionning heavy memory usage... I think this game holds a very HUGE potential for future but definately needs some hot fixes (the guys at ED are hardworking for sure), optimizations, ---flight model tune up--- & more community options (easily editable camos & paintschemes). Runs rather OK with lowres mods (sky/water) but without them you have to turn a lot of the graphic goodies down and then it looks rather "cheap". 2,1 Ghz 1gb RAM and ATI 9800 Pro should get me a litle bit further than this.

The only thing that prevents me giving this game a perfect 10 are the radar bugs and padlock issues that I suffer from. These are both said to be addressed in the upcoming patch. I enjoy the induvidual challenges offered by each of the planes and the wide variety of mission types offfered by the one game. Having been flying the Flanker series of flightsims I had high expectations for this game. But then again, they promised much. Throughout the development, we were constantly fed plenty of eye-candy as the game progressed. Graphically...LOMAC is second to none. In playability...its sub-par. For some, the lack of a "dynamic campaign" was a major issue. For others, it was more about the avionics and flight model. For me, it was the "whole experience" both within the game and out. I was recently BANNED from their forums for questioning their software testing especially after they admitted that they had allowed certain KNOWN bugs to make it to the final release. I helped the community at first but when I "stepped out of line" I was ostracized and criticized and then eventually banned. I hope that all that purchase this game realize that the sense of "community" is reserved for a select few and in particular all that don't question. Once the games' performance issues are addressed, as well as the AI issues, the Windows 98 compatability issues, and some other minor details I think this sim has tremendous potential and will definitely have some serious longevity. But then again...one can only hope... Expand

At first, there were some teething pains for me as system configuration is an absolute must with a sim of the complexity and fidelity, but as the days passed, LO:MAC has turned into a nice little gem, and I am enjoying it very much. Be aware of the steep system requirements, and I know it can get frustrating, but there is help out there and I have not run into any showstoppers yet. Aside from the poor documentation included in the box and on the CD, LO:MAC is a nice sight in what I hope will someday no longer be a niche market. The sim is a worthy successor to the Flanker Lineage, all spruced up for the 21st Century :) And who cannot resist having fun with Depleted Uranium??? The A-10 is an absolute joy to fly, and a conversation with an Air Force type told me the cockpit layout, gauges, etc. were pretty darn close to the real dea. Nice :) Although the lack of a dynamic campaign was a dissappointment, the highly detailed mission editor should help to fill in that gap. If you like flight sims, you must own LO:MAC!! An excellent, if not revolutionary game in most counts. The reasons why I don't award it a full 10 are: lack of a good (dynamic) campaign system, which would add immersion to the game; lack of a dynamic weather system; and although I am able to run the game perfectly, it does have bugs that cause some people a lot of problems - in some cases preventing them from playing them. This is a fantastic game. No one could imagine such a game released without any bugs. Any flight sim fan knows that a game is stable 6 months after its official release, when user inputs have been used to correct the game's problems. Anyway, even with those bugs (some are bad I admit), this is a GREAT game and I enjoy it every evening.

LO-MAC offers the most detailed realistic and amazing graphic avionic and flight model EVER! it is a complete packadge, with immersion puringg out your eyes and ears, it is as close as you get to perfection and there is no flight simulation to beat it withing sights, graphic get 9/10, immersion get 8/10, realism get 9/10, multiplayer ease of use get 10/10, recording track/avi ability get 9/10 (10 if you could alter views while playing back the track more like a replay), training get 9/10 (10 if miss spelling was left out and voice over included) all in all it is the most beautiful wonderful amazing flight simulator to date and one where you actually have to learn an aircraft to fly it, and the more willing you are to learn and master it, the bigger the reward in game will be, i could write a LONG extensive review but i wont, three words, BEAUTIFUL, IMMERSIVE, IMPRESSIVE! only thing that troubles it is the feel of an unfinished product released to quickly/early, with miss spellings, things left out of the PDF manual and already not beeing complete at all (70% of everything good to know and learn you will have to get on your own on the internet or the forum) and graphic glitches and miss-out's and avionics glitches and miss-out's, model glitches and miss-out's, etc. no introduction video, left out dynamic campaign, requires a high end computer which in my case i dont have but still LOVE that it is that way, when i do upgrade again ill set settings up and go at it again, REPLAYABILITY! good thing it got such a good support by developers, producersm ubisoft, patches will be made bringing it constantly towards perfection, A MUST BY! try to fly it you will be STUCK! No I don't give any game 10 but this is trully an exception for so many reasons. Its quite literally the best sense of being in the air in a real environment every to grace a PC, but the price is you need good hardware as would be expected of any cutting edge pioneering game title. Lock On is indeed a milestone of virtual flight and you get to fight in it as well ;) Get this game, and be patient with it, just like you would with anything that you love and cherish. Well done ED, another masterpiece. Expand

Really really a rough diamond which will become the ultimate flight sim after a patch or two. BUY this one if you're the slightest bit interested in flight simulators.

Superb. Points dropped for lack of paper manual and problematic (for some) copy protection. Requires a good system apparently, but I'm problem-free with a 2.53P4, 9700pro and xp with 1 gig memory. Some slow-down in parts but not life-threatening. If you like jet sims buy it without hesitation. If you don't - don't. Its that simple. Graphically and aurally unmatched, great work by developers, support from them is wonderful, active forum, let down by the usual piss-poor performance from Ubisoft (not even a keycard in the box). What's all the fuss? This game runs very well on my computer. I have a a P4 2.4 with a Radeon 9800 Pro and 1 Gig of RAM. The jets are cool, the detail is stunning, and the graphics rock!. Sure, it has some bugs, but show me a flight sim that doesn't have a few bugs in the first version. The guys that make this game have stated that they will be putting out a patch to fix problems. I'll be playing this one for a long time. Jonesy. Expand

This game is superb, admittedly theres a few bugs here and there but it is playable out of the box, whether you want to fly around and practice landing or takeoffs, shooting air/ground targets, or maybe get into the campaigns and fly one of the 8 aircraft available this game is for you...Its been a while since I played a modern flight sim with such depth and even then only one flyable aircraft to play in. This is one of those games you hope will have lots of expansions because its visually superb to play and watch. A few people moan about the specs and the graphics detail adjustments being ineffective but with a patch it should hopefully suit lower end PCs better. I even went out and brought a new Joystick (Saitek X45) and graphics card (Radeon 9800XT) because this game is an investment in terms of longevity and playability, and I want it to last as long as possible and look and play as well as possible. Its one of those games that deserves all the flight sim hardware you can get your hands on to make the experience as real and mind blowing as possible. Whether you buy this game now or in a few months I assure you it will be a worthy purchase... Expand

Lack of documentation makes this a lame game. Performace is poor and if it wasn't for the pretty graphics and ability to make nice desktop shots, this would be a total bust! AVOID IT !!!

Lock-On is a serious flight simulator which requires a fairly modern system to successfully run. I experienced a few hurdles on initial install including turning off virtual CD and updating video drivers. After that it is pure joy. The new release version omitted including a key card. A simple request to UbiSoft corrected that omission with a keycard quickly sent via mail. Solid support is offered in forums found on the Lock-On web site. A patch is forthcoming testifying to the committment of this simulator's success. Overall this simulator is a well balenced blend of flight simulation that will provide many hours of enjoyment for years to come. Immature hot-shot know-it-alls should steer away from this flight sim. Expand

In a time of multiple entertainment avenues for the home consumer. LOCK on has many challenges set before it. The choice ofton these days as opposed to the mid 90's when Flight Simulations were at their height. is now you have some competitors for your personal entertainment. Today you have Consoles, and DVDS, and internet to fill the void. In this publishers understand that the Investment required to make a quality sim far exceeeds a return on investment. Lock on is a novel approach. in this approach they attemtped to laydown a high defined flying enviroment with plenty of dynamics and challenges available to the player provided tey wish to use the fast mission planner or user Mission planner. Te player is afforded multiple aircraft to fly. the other neat aspect. Is that theres other activities other than flying. With the high investment into AI objects in the game. battle scenarios and capabilities can be tested. This is one avenue military enthusiest will enjoy. Next is the Spielbergs of gameing. Those enthusiests that enjoy cinemetographer pursuits. this has been a very popular aspect of the IL2 online community. The differnce of Lomac is they provide you the media makeing tools. with a Track recording and playback feature, that allows the end user to manipulate camera views and then to record them with the movie makeing feature, that captures the whole event 1 screen capture at a time. While this is a slow process it provides you with game quality photage that far exceeds Digital out and or 3rd party screen capture methods. This is one feature that had the fans of this title ecstatic through the whole development process. When critics make instant judgements against lomac they fail to grasp the multitude of differnt activities available to the LOMAC consuker. Above is just a few of the highlights. LOMAC deliever a very very solid foundation with graphics quality far exceeding any simulation to date. It is an aviators wonderland. With multiple developers buyouts by several publishers and companies. I am amazed that the integrity of the simulation was held together. This is an Attribute to a very sound development plan that weighed, changeing budgets, Publisher deadlines and consumer expectations. the developers, Consultants, and Producers succeeded in creating a very solid foundation. On the surface to the hardcore crowd it may look below the par for genre. but i believe this is not the case. LOMAC never has had a Roof set over it. Its primary goal was to provide all the differnt Enthusiests an activity in one package. This title has Expansion and growth all over it. their is no limit, to what can be done in the sime for the enthusiest or the developer. This title is a goldmine. All that is required is forthe Consumer to pickup the tools that have been made available to them and harvest this multifaceted entertainment package. I belive lock on has sold the community a 500 Dolalr simulation package 40 dollars at a time. I expect great things from the Eagle Dynamics and Fighter Collection team. Expand

In terms of graphics and immersion...this sim is just off the scale. and complexity? --don't get me started. I get more of a rush from one afternoon flying LOMAC than I ever got flying that "other" sim.

Beautiful graphics, best sense of "being there" of any sim I've seen to date. Dynamic campaign missing. A few too many bugs in initial release. Great potential however. If you let the down's keep you from buying/supporting this sim then you will be missing something.

This game sets new standards for Flight Simulations in the future. Awesome Graphics and tons of features and details. But a complicated sim like this needs good documentation and there is none. Even the 3rd-Party manual which costs an extra $40 is not comprehensive enough to cover everything.

I would say overall that it is a very good simulation. Various minor bugs w/ a major hit for win98 issues. (Not bad though considering Microsoft has now issued a cease and desist (support wise) order for win98 and earlier operating systems as of January, I believe.) Runs very well on my system. ATI 8500 AMD XP1700 w/ 512 meg of ram. I'll give them a patch or two just like FB (Wonderful sim in its own right) Expand

This game has great potential and will no doubt in it's finished form blow everything else out of the water! But hey, lets be honest here..this is supposed to be a rating of the game "As it is " not how it "Will be ". My advice..wait a month or so till some of the MAJOR bugs are worked out.

  1. Our favourite is the A-10 Warthog – cruising at 50 feet, on the prowl for enemy tanks, it’s one of the most exhilarating missions available in any recent simulator.
  2. Detailed terrain, buildings, water, and effects lend an unprecedented feeling of speed to low-level flight. [March 2004, p.82]
  3. It has great graphics, fairly simple controls, great scenery, a decent choice of planes, and a great editor. Although the sounds easily get on your nerves, it will be the load times and need for a computer upgrade that will have you pulling your hair out.
