It's one of the freshest, boldest and most rewarding entrants in a genre many had left for dead, and anyone pining for a true Silent Hill experience needs to experience what Byrne has to offer. Lone Survivor deserves to be massive, because it might just be the most interesting thing I've played all year.

Lone Survivor is easily among the best survival horror games that I've ever played, a feat that's truly remarkable when one considers the 2D perspective and visual limitations.

Lone Survivor bears doubtless resemblance to that classic survivor horror franchise, Silent Hill. After all, Lone Survivor has creepy monsters, a mostly-empty city, a basement you don't want to be in but must be, fleshy red membranes, and a psychological bent. I like to think of Lone Survivor not as a tawdry imitator, but as an intelligent and surreal homage to a once-powerful series, and even perhaps a comment on the genre itself.

A chilling and fascinating indie psychological horror. [July 2012, p.84]

Blood-splattered pixels induce fear and anxiety even in the toughest of gamers – Lone Survivor is as appealing as the original Silent Hill was: a true stylish survival horror. [June 2012]

Lone Survivor is one of the weirdest, most disturbing survival horror games available now. From start to finish, it takes you on a fuzzy trip in the world of the 'lone survivor'. Despite its two-dimensional appearance it's a very atmospheric and frightening game that constantly makes you think. It does this in a unique way by challenging you on a psychological level.

All that aside, Lone Survivor is solid. It delivers in all the areas a horror game should. You'll feel fear, loneliness, desperation and those of you who aren't familiar with the Silent Hill formula will also be intrigued by the narrative.

Thrilling, scary, stylish a atmospheric adventure with sounds and music that sit as a bespoke suit. The game provides you with feelings and immersion that commercial survival horrors are after. Expand

A Great game, with a very deep meaning. The graphics, music and ambiance are all amazing. It is very scary at times and only ever uses cheap tricks like jump scares a few times. Expand

I'm going to give this a 10 out of 10, because i feel it has made it into one of the three only scary games made, Amnesia, and Silent hill, and lets face it, there have been so many attempts and so, so many fails, but these three are what the makers of the others should consider finishing for ideas on how to capture horror at its finest. Aventura gráfica tanto visual como narrativamente interesante, bastante profundidad en su desarrollo. Si te gustan las aventuras es una buena compra, en caso contrario es una buena experiencia para adquirir en rebajas. Expand

This is a true survival/horror game. Unlike most modern games of its genre, you don't simply shoot your way through endless waves of zombies with your overpowered shotgun that has unlimited ammo. Instead, you have to manage the resources that are given to you in order to survive.

The gameplay revolves around making your way through the rooms of the building. You will find many obstacles along your way and also monsters that you will have to kill or sneak by. The difficulty of the game is just right as it's not overly simplistic but not ridiculously hard either.

The atmosphere is great despite the retro style, 2d graphics, although I can see that being a reason for many people to dislike the game The music is very fitting too. I can't really comment on the storyline, since I haven't beaten the game yet but it definitely has a surreal tone to it.

I wouldn't go that far, saying that it's a masterpiece but it is certainly an enjoyable game that fans of old school survival horror games will love.

I would have to agree with people saying that the game spamming you with messages about having to sleep or eat makes it thoroughly unenjoyable. I really liked the beginning of the story, the atmosphere and presentation. But the constant messages made me stop playing after just 2-3 hours total and when I just thought about whether I should just finish the game, it simply felt like it would be a hassle. And I'd rather play games that don't feel like I constantly have to do menial tasks. Expand

Probably the worst game i've received in a HIB. Horrible graphcis, horrible level design, horrible gameplay. Constant messages proclaiming that your character is hungry or tired. The story makes no sense, the flow of the game doesn't make sense either. It gets a 1 because you can atleast start the game up and play it without any problems. It gets -9 for being a complete piece of trash. Expand
