  1. For the first time in years, the game has been redesigned which completely alters the gameplay at its core. Tiburon appears not to be satisfied with just creating an entertaining representation of video football but to advance the realism so that the experience brings players that much closer to what it feels like being on the gridiron. They've succeeded.
  2. A major overhaul, crisper graphics, and a new passing system that needs more development. All in all, it's fun, addictive in a way football games haven't been recently, and worth the reduced price to pick up this edition.

A fantastic game, just not as much fun to play as it has been the last few years.
  4. A great football game. But so was "Madden 2005," and besides precision passing and QB vision, there is no big reason for casual fans to absolutely lay down 50 bucks for the same game with different lineups.
  5. An excellent football game. However, the expectations were a little higher this year knowing that there will not be any rivals. The new passing system is a little step forward, but only a little. [Oct 2005]
  6. Madden 06 PC remains a great option for NFL fans now, but for how long the PC is a realistic option for the latest in NFL gaming technology is anyone's guess.
  7. Another incremental step, but still a great game of football. [Nov 2005, p.100]

While it might fall short of championship material, it's still an excellent game that will get fans through the upcoming season.
  9. Ultimately, Madden NFL 06 is a highly playable game of football, but in comparison with the leaps forward the franchise has made in previous years, 06 feels like a false start.
  10. Luckily, you have the option to turn the new passing system off, but if you do-what valid new additions separate 06 from the rest? Almost nothing. It's looking like the lack of competition is a bad thing, but who knows?
  11. Why risk changing an already perfect passing sytem? I guess when you're the only game in town, you can do what you want. [Oct 2005]
  12. Not the huge advancement many might expect from a new year and especially a year when they are the only game in town, but the game still plays solid, the rosters are updated, and the new modes may appeal to those coming over from the competition.
  13. It seems that now EA is the sole rights holder to the official NFL licences, and the opposition has folded its tables and left, it seems to have taken its foot off the gas. Better luck next year. [PC Zone]
  14. After last year's excellent installment, it's disappointment to see Madden 06 take a step backward. Maybe next year, the game will focus more on the fundamentals and less on razzle-dazzle. [Nov 2005, p.70]
  15. Minor tweaks to a solid but dull money-spinner. [Nov 2005, p.92]
  16. A mediocre game. Madden NFL 06 is the least necessary installment in this classic football series in some time. [Nov 2005, p.70]

Madden Football 2006 is a good game. There are good graphics and interesting new options like NFL Superstar. The problem is that now that they are the only game in town they are slipping. The new passing mode is more annoying then fun, and the fun level is dropping little by little in this series. Full Review »
