The turn-based strategy game Making History II - The War of the World has too much focus on the economy than on the tactical side of warfare. This game is definitely no competitor to the Hearts of Iron series.
Although some time has passed since the publication of the initial version of the game (German version of Making History II is version 1.18), the technical flaws are still numerous. Anyone who is interested in historical turn-based strategy should remain with Hearts of Iron. Making History II might be interesting in a year as a budget version.
Haven't had this much fun since the 90's. A throwback to better days...
If you like strategy board games like axis and allies, you will love this as its A&A on steroids Moderate learning curve.
Brilliant.
I am used to playing Paradox games, and I can say "Making History 2: The War of the World" can be just as addictive as Playing Europa Universalis 4 or Crusader Kings 2.
The difference, however, is that this one is a turn based strategy game, which is much easier to get into, and yet it is extremely fun and complex. I have no doubt I will spend hundreds of hours enjoying this fantastic war game.
On a side note, the developers never get tired of improving their products. They are passionate about what they do, careful to the extent of providing an extensive manual and an increadibly simple and fun editor that will get you fully prepared for what awaits you, and fully aware of all the details belonging to game-play.
10 out of 10 - buy it!
This game is MOST CERTAINLY a competitor to Hearts of Iron at ANY level. The pros got it wrong this time as you can see from the USER reviews who've I've always believed give the TRUE HONEST reviews. There's too much greasing of palms in the other category of reviewing.
This game is great it's really kinda like HOI turn based except with better interface, graphics and above all else the AI. I tried to play Italy on hard and I got spanked by the AI allies. It's really that good. I may have to go DOWN a level.
If you want a good quality WW2 wargame that is about MAKING HISTORY and not PLAYING linear history like so many others before it are like this is the game for you. I enjoy the heck out of it. It's a lot more fun an realistic in MAKING HISTORY and anybody can be allies with anybody. That's what I like about it most. Think about Germany and the USA as allies. Who would have won the war then you puny Brits and French? hehe Patton was ready to walk all over the Russians anyways. This game really allows that kind of situation to happen.
Get it you'll be glad you did.
This is exactly like a "Total War" game in WW2 era! The only difference is that it has only campaign map and not battle maps too... which means that you play the battles only on the campaign map... However I have to mention that it gives even more strategic possibilities to the player than ''Total War" like to establish new countries in conquered territories! It is the perfect grand strategy game for WW2 era ....and I suggest to all "Total War" fans to buy it with no hesitations!!!!
Pay no attention to the meta reviewers, they musta not got their palms greased like the other crap games they review and give 90's to like RTW. This is a great game. Must better than HOI of any level. It's turn based and the AI is better than HOI's anyday of the week. Definitely worth the money it costs now. Buy two copies, one for you and one for your friend. :))
What can I say about Making History? Interesting? Check. Realistic? Check. Fun? Check. Fun if you are interested in this genre, but if you are not you will find it a bore, but that is the same about anything. The Editor is completely equipped with it, and this is the main reason why it lost two points. The first is because the Edited is not fully Laptop supportive, as you cannot scroll down options easily in Editor. The Second is that Religions and Cultures of Countries cannot be edited AS far as I know. The actual game is very good, fairly quick and fast paced, although I do believe that the next release will need several different eras within the game in order to confirm my purchase. Overall a very good and extensive game.
There are major technical problems with the game. To the point where the game is almost unplayable. The technical support by Muzzy Lane requires the user to download debugging software and perform tasks that a paid Quality Assurance Technician should be performing. Not only would I recommend against buying this game, I would avoid all titles developed by MLS.
SummaryTake on the role of a WWII era national leader embroiled in the toxic mix of waning empires, economic crisis, and ethnic "fault lines" in Making History II: The War of the World.
