  1. Just when you think you have seen it all, here comes an Expansion Pack that more than doubles the original Game!
  2. The action is compressed and more intense than the regular game. But that compressed action, although more intense, means you'll zip through the single-player campaign in short order -- about 6 hours.
  3. The level designs and objectives just aren't as clever and the game itself is rather short, even for inexperienced FPS players. [Jan 2003, p.118]
  4. The fun vehicle levels, tons of weapons, gun emplacements to use, and scripted, cinematic gameplay all show just how short the single player mode is, even if it's generally really good stuff.
  5. It's gonna be a short battle, so let's try to have a little fun before it's over.
  6. Rather like Half-Life’s "Blue Shift" expansion, Spearhead is over in barely three hours... It’s only because Spearhead chimes in at 20 quid or thereabouts that we don’t rip it apart – as it is, it’s rather like buying a DVD of your favourite war flick.
  7. You can finish the entire single-player game in a single evening, with time left over to take a dinner break, watch an hour or two of television, and then turn in early. Some demos are longer. [Feb 2003, p.75]

A stellar beginning which trails out to a predictable, uninspiring and all too short experience. Competent but oh so disappointing.

I loved Allied Assault, and when Spearhead came out many years ago I got to the store as fast as I could and bought it up. I was quickly disappointed. An annoying Battle of the Bulge level where if a single German even touched the trench you lost; disappointing weaponry; and gameplay that I completed in two and a half hours gave a very poor gaming experience. I did not enjoy this game, which says something from someone who loved Allied Assault. Expand
