  1. If the recent overabundance of WWII-themed RTS games and the lack of multiplayer do not bother you, pick up this game. A good single-player campaign is a rarity these days.

Although it still posses many of the same problems, and it's difficulty spikes range from mildly difficult to insanely impossible, with a strict attention to historical detail and missions designed to test you strategic skills to their maximum, Red Tide can be an immensely rewarding game, but one that does require a great deal of patients and discipline.
  3. What the game does – a single-player campaign – it does very well, and if you enjoyed the rich scenarios of previous games in the series you probably own this game already. If you don't, and if you're looking for an entry point into the phenomenon, this is as stellar a place to start as any.
  4. It's World War II once again, but this time it's not D-Day again, it's the 22th of September, 1941 and we are Black Jackets, Russian marines fighting Romanian infantry or fighting on virtually every other Russian frontline up until August 1945 against Japan in the Pacific. But it's a hardcore game with no tutorial at all. You will need patience. But this game is a rough diamond.
  5. At the end of the day, Men at War: Red Tide is a little dated but when it comes to gameplay, this is the highlight of the title.

Brilliant, unthinking and unfair in equal measure. [Jan 2010, p.110]

Red Tide rewards patience and planning with immense satisfaction. [Nov 2010, p.62]

A pretty good add-on for a great game, except for missing multiplayer. Adventures of USSR Marines are far more interesting than eg. Normandy. [Jan 2010]

Lack of multi is a bit disappointing, but anyway the singleplayer still rocks. Good game! Full Review »

The A.I. pathfinding is awful, you lose about 25% of your men because they run right out in front of machine gun nests, fail to toss grenades over walls etc... There are very few opportunities to capture enemy vehicles, not that it really matters because the enemy hit ratio on your tanks is like 5 to 1. Lots of bugs, freeze ups and the like.

Some missions are cool but you make it to the end with a few guys only to find out you have to defend against a tank attack or knock out artillery. Every machine gun nest is backed up by a flanking nest or sub machine gunners. The challenge that was maddeningly addictive in the first MoW has now become ridiculous.
