  • Summary: Isador, the inquisitor monk, is fighting his way across Europe, searching for a murderer the church has deemed the antichrist. But more than just cloudy skies stand in his way and the dense fog that protects the nation has become a Mistmare to be reckoned with. Mistmare is an addictive mix of action, adventure and RPG elements, shrouded in a veil of fog and excitement. Isador, a young monk, has been sent on a journey by the Church to find the leader of the Harvesters, a radical sect that is threatening the Church?s attempts at shielding Europe from the spread of the plague. Use an incredible arsenal of weapons and tools to fight off monsters and enemies as you search for the Harvesters and fight to protect Europe. [Strategy First] Expand

  1. Mistmare’s slow pace and dependency on dialogue steals the thunder from many of its fantasy elements.
  2. Mistmare has some truly wondrous landscapes and jaw-dropping monsters and such, thanks in no small part to the LithTech engine, but it just came out of the oven too early. [Nov 2003, p.118]
  3. The interface is barely useable, and the combat is a fairly simple affair. The graphics are weak, and though the story is interesting, you will probably not want to play through the game to see the plot go forward.

If you're looking for a slow moving game with sub-par graphics, poor gameplay, and horrible controls, then Mistmare is the game for you.
  5. Mistmare has more bugs than an apartment in the Projects. The game is virtually unplayable. It's more horrendous than the Inquisition - and just about as much fun. I don't even know where to begin to lament on the inadequacies of this… abomination.
  6. More punishment than game. No matter what the box says, this isn't so much a fantasy role-playing game as it is a medieval torture device right up there with the rack and the iron maiden.
  7. Let me put this as nicely as I possibly can: Strategy First could have put a rotting dead rat in a shoebox and charged $20, and it would still have been a better value than Mistmare. [Dec 2003, p.131]

Strategy First has really done it this time . When I saw the first screenshoots of the game I was really impressed but now my opinion has changed ,I now think that this is the worst RPG of the year it has : lots of bugs , hard control over the character , boring combat and the list goes on ...
