  • Summary: If you like first person shooters, you're going to love Neocron, because it provides a whole range of varied weaponry and direct battles. While there's a ceasefire in the city, you can set out to the vast wastelands to hunt monsters and mutants. You can participate in deathmatches in special arenas within the game without damaging the game characters and their skills or values. Clan friends will also be thrilled: You can found a clan in your team's own apartment and communicate with its members via board and messaging systems, or trade materials, weapons and real estate to become a commercial tycoon. 1. Despite the poor level of in-game documentation and the required learning-curve, it’s still the only title of its kind that I could comfortably recommend to players new to the genre.
  2. There is a great deal of depth in the game's history for the developers to build on, and a great deal of depth in the skill system for players to explore. [Mar 2003, p.82]
  3. If you can put up with the banality of the missions and NPCs, and the fact that all the player characters look the same, Neocron is slowly becoming one of the most interesting MMORPG worlds.
  4. While the promise of political intrigue among colorful factions in a futuristic setting will draw you into the game, Neocron's inability to make a significant impact with any of these things will push you away.

Promising idea, lackluster execution. Different from the rest, but not really -- an enjoyable gaming experience, but nothing compared to what it coulda, woulda, shoulda been.
  6. Like visiting Disneyland during the off-season: crowds are few, there's not much pampering of customers, and many attractions are closed or under renovation. [Mar 2003, p.90]
  7. From the moment you enter CDV Software's postacoptalyptic online world, you'll be confused, bored...and lonely. Which is shame, because as far as concepts go, Neocron has promise. [Apr 2003, p.118]
