  1. One of the better games from the consistently recommended franchise. [Dec 2007, p.80]
  2. A perfectly adequate console port. [Nov 2007, p.84]
  3. Give it a go when it's come down in price if you're desperate to have the new rosters, otherwise stick with 07. [Nov 2007, p.56]
  4. Somewhat tellingly, there isn’t much more to say about NHL 08 – it’s a very good game, but the genre’s moved on and once again PC gamers haven’t been given the chance to see how.
  5. Still, NHL 08 manages to be an entertaining e adequate ice hockey game, and will remain as a valid choice for PC players who can’t afford the alternatives available in next-gen consoles.

A pretty average affair. Fun can be had if you’re really into your hockey, but there are better games to choose from.
  7. NHL 08 offers up a few control tweaks and minimal updates to the dynasty mode, but that's about it.
  8. EA Sports has once again screwed PC owners over with a cut-rate edition of one of its big fall sports games, and NHL 08 is even more of a disappointment than its football and golf comrades. [Holiday 2007, p.83]

It's great how they put in all these extra European leagues and the AHL, and the dynasty mode is alright, but it is a dissapointment when compared to great NHL games such as NHL2001. I'd go with NHL2K8 rather than this one, shame that NHL2K8 was not ported to PC. Full Review »

I'm very happy that the skill stick was added to the PC version, however, it is disappointing that it is not as dynamic as the PS3 or XBOX360 versions.
The inclusion of AHL franchises and introducing the salary cap to the Dynasty Mode are also nice to see. What is sorely disappointing, however, is that the player animations on goals, saves, and between periods are almost exactly the same as NHL06. The same can be said about the in-game commentary that doesn't appear to have changed one bit.
All in all, it seems as though EA has phoned this one in, but at least it's not without a few redeeming qualities.

NHL08 was pretty solid. But where the hell was PC Gamer these last 8 years when the the NHL franchise sucked? They were busy giving glowing reviews (mostly) to this fading franchise.
05, 06 and 07 are 35% games, not this one.

EA needs to make a PC only front-end, with drag and drop line editing, and all will be moving in the right direction once more.
