  • Summary: EA's Canadian developing team returns to the ice with better graphics, improved lighting, create-a-player features, "Soul Calibur"-like digital NHL trading cards, and a dramatic new breakaway cam for those one-on-one, juke-the-goalie situations.

  1. The action is so intense and over-the-top that you have to wonder if Mario Lemieux would have reconsidered unretirement if he played this game a year earlier.
  2. I am particularly impressed though with the customization abilities of the game.
  3. If you've ever wanted a fast paced sports game that's top quality, check out NHL 2002. You could buy it just for the new commentary alone, but there are so many more reasons.
  4. A great game, but true hockey fans that buy the latest and greatest that EA gives us each year will not see a whole lot of changes.
  5. Undoubtedly an excellent game, with its strengths far outweighing its weaknesses. My central frustration, though, is that it doesn’t allow you to play a deliberate, defense-oriented, puck-control style of NHL hockey.
  6. There didn't seem to be any specific gameplay difference with NHL 2002 and its immediate predecessor. All my on-ice moves were the same as in the older game.
