  1. A rather interesting game with a pretty good ideology behind it and a reasonable amount of gameplay within it. At times the game can be frustrating with some overly difficult battles but over all, it is a rather enjoyable experience and the way the missions are set up, it really is perfect for the casual gamer.

An interesting take on fantasy in modern surroundings. The old Silent Storm engine works great once again, but the game is a bit too streamlined and simple. Good fun for one play-through, nonetheless. [Sept 2006]
  3. If you overlook a few key areas you might find a game that offers something a little different than the standard turn-based strategy game.

What's here is engaging and contains a compelling, in-depth story to complement the gameplay.
  5. It made me interested in tracking down the movie to play, and gave me a good number of hours playing an enjoyable RPG.

Night-Watch is a rather average horror RPG based on a movie you may not have heard of. You could certainly do a lot worse, but unless you’re a fanatic about the film, your money could be better spent elsewhere until this one hits the bargain bin.
  7. Night Watch has plenty of big ideas, but the overall execution is lacking.
  8. 60
If you liked the film and what to know more about the lore, then the game will provide plenty of interesting information. But the longer you play, the more the gameplay itself becomes an uninteresting hurdle to enlightenment.

Night Watch's main element -- combat -- is fun and engaging, especially once the characters reach higher levels and have more options. But to call it an RPG is a bit disingenuous, because you truly have very few options to individualize the characters, and the story continues in a linear fashion.
  10. With lackluster and restrictive gameplay, almost no class diversity, and drab graphics, this is probably a game that should step into the Gloom and stay there for a long while.
  11. The turn-based mechanic for combat feels very 1992 and the environments in the game are dull and lifeless.
  12. Night Watch has some nice ideas, but it's too simple at its core to remain interesting, and falls into a rut just a few hours after it starts.
  13. With an overabundance of confused, flat dialogue delivered poorly, Night Watch does a good job of being bad. The game is also notable for its weak attempts at humor.
  14. A mediocre game that I didn’t mind spending some time on. There are enough interesting factors to be engaging, but enough drawbacks to keep it from reaching the levels of enjoyment that it had every possibility of achieving.

Mediocre turn-based vampire-battling from the Old Country. [Nov 2006, p.98]
  16. Night Watch is a stripped-down turn-based strategy game that starts off interesting, but eventually settles into a shallow and repetitive rut.
  17. If you appreciated the movie or are aching for more Silent Storm turn-based action, then this game could hit the mark provided you are very forgiving of the disappointing audio, turgid dialog and tired visuals.
  18. With so many options out there for RPG fans, I cannot bring myself to recommend this game to anyone. The storyline is annoying and the gameplay is slow, not even the graphics help the game any.
  19. One minute you’re watching a badly rendered cutscene telling you about the different forces, the next you’re looking at a live-action portion of the movie that doesn’t serve to improve your comprehension of the story whatsoever.
  20. Plot-wise, this is an unnecessarily confusing experience.
  21. The engine, while used well in previous titles, is a poor choice for this game. The linearity of the title is constricting and aggravating when it feels like there’s a big city full of Others waiting to be explored.

Unfortunately, despite offering an eclectic mix of turn-based strategy and RPG elements, the Night Watch game is a clunky mess. [Oct. 2006, p.88]

There's a thin line between awful and pointless, and Night Watch manages to wobble like a poorly spun top right in the middle, sporadically teetering too far into awful before righting itself, then drifting over to pointless territory. Again and again and again.

There’s better acting in a preschool production of Equus than in this game. As atrocious as the voice-acting is—and it is unbelievably godawful—the writing is worse.
  25. Your time and money is better spent tracking down "Nochnoi Dozor" on DVD and enjoying it passively because, as an attempt at an interactive experience, Night Watch fails utterly.
  26. The whole package is similar to ready salted crisps: Sure, they'll fill you up and won't leave a disgusting taste in your mouth, but for the same price you can get some salt and vinegar flavour, or perhaps cheese and onion.
  27. PC Zone UK
    It's a bit shit...Dialogue is laughably bad. [Christmas 2006, p.94]
  28. Night Watch is exciting enough to help you fall asleep... on your watch!
  29. Computer Games Magazine
The whole thing plays out like some budgetware "Turn-Based Combat RPG for Dummies". [Oct. 2006, p.80]

Rob E is high, and or has the taste of a crack whore in New York. If you enjoyed Fallout, you will want to crucify this "game" with a flaming spear.

If you enjoyed Silent Storm, or Fallout, but you wanted something more fantastic, here's your game. Good storyline, good gameplay. But If you enjoyed Silent Storm, or Fallout, but you wanted something more fantastic, here's your game. Good storyline, good gameplay. But since its about magic and not weapons, don't expect a lot of equipment. Only 3 character classes too. Full Review »
