  • Summary: Oniken is an action platformer, highly inspired by 8-bit games of the late 1980's and early 1990's. This influence is visible not only on Oniken's graphics and sound design, but also on its story and even on game's difficulty. Oniken takes place on a post-apocalyptic future when a global war nearly destroys human kind. The few survivors are oppressed by a large military organization called Oniken. Player takes the role of Zaku, a ninja mercenary that takes part on the resistance movement. Expand

Oniken is an hard platform game with a retrĂ² feeling inspired by the NES classics. It is a good game which all the retrogamers should try.

Oniken isn't quite the magical pairing of nostalgia and great game design that Mega Man 9 was, but it comes close to scratching that same itch that few other games have done since. If you love 8-bit games and hate yourself, dying repeatedly within Oniken's six merciless levels brings its own form of joy that is rare in games these days.
