Pacific Storm is a remarkable offering for armchair commanders who enjoy micromanaging all aspects of war. The only real disappointment I had with the game was the mismatched background music.
Pacific Storm is an entirely original experience. Though there are a number of good games that simulate either the operational or tactical aspects of the war, none have combined the two into the complete experience you get with Pacific Storm.
In the end, Pacific Storm is not the best of three genres put together, but it's certainly not the worst. The game provides solid tactical gameplay and air/ship simulation, but the gameplay can be tough - especially for new gamers.
Whether you like the feel of strategic buildup and planning for the big war or as tactician in battles Pacific Storm has enough variety that it sets itself apart from previous strategy games.
Merge the complexity of a real-time navel strategy game with the hand-on-joystick appeal of an arcade flight simulator and you get Pacific Storm, an ambitious but buggy new RTS title from Russian developer Lesta Studio. [Jan. 2007, p.74]
Too many problems with bugs and artificial intelligence sink this promising and ambitious RTS.
