  • Summary: Portal is a new single player game from Valve. Set in the mysterious Aperture Science Laboratories, Portal has been called one of the most innovative new games on the horizon and offers gamers hours of unique gameplay. The game is designed to change the way players approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment; similar to how Half-Life 2's Gravity Gun innovated new ways to leverage an object in any given situation. Players must solve physical puzzles and challenges by opening portals to maneuvering objects, and themselves, through space. [Valve] Expand

  1. Portal can be bought separately or as part of the Orange Box package – Half-Life 2, Episodes 1 and 2, and Team Fortress 2 – but either way you get one of the best gaming experiences of the year.
  2. From beginning to end, it's hard to find something not to like about Portal. Everything from the gameplay to the presentation are top-notch.
  3. Portal is a magnificent puzzle game. The titillating wrongness of every solution and the wonky thinking required to get there make you feel like a space-folding genius, and yet you'll almost never get stuck.

Ine of the most unique, funny and satisfying games of 2007, and we can't wait until Valve produces more of it.
  5. Skilled players will portal their way through the nineteen levels in just a few hours, but this little puzzle game / tech demo provides plenty of entertainment and makes a great addition to The Orange Box.
  6. So Portal does its job within the Orange Box compilation, taking a brilliant left-field idea and successfully merging it with Valve's universe over an entertaining few hours of gaming.
  7. By anyone's reckoning Portal isn't a long game, weighing in at around the three to four hour mark. Those of you who do see this game from start to end though are in for a very special experience.

A boring start that is needed for any great puzzle game, so that is irrelevant. Once you get past a few you will be laughing your but off in the fun lonely adventure of the aperture science research facility! Another great product from valve. Expand

    Excellent, addictive game.
It has an inventive concept, a funny, well-observed (well, as much as it can be) script, and some lyrical
dissonance at the end that'd make Todd Edward Smith flinch.
Yes, it IS short, but I forgave this once I heard there's a sequel coming out.

A puzzle game that will get your brain working. Wrapped in a first-person shooter, this game provides excellent and clever puzzles along with a great story. Expand

This game was great, though I watched walkthroughs on Youtube because I'm pretty bad at solving puzzles, but the puzzles themselves are well thought out and really intelligent. The story is good, even though there are only two characters, but it feels like one because the main character Chell doesn't talk. She grunts, but doesn't talk. Valve made epic games, and this is one of them. Expand

Portal is a innovative new look for FPS's and although short, the game is very fun to play. The only two problems I have with the game is the short length and the price. Expand

Oh, Metacritic deleted my humble review without any reason? No problem, I can restore it. Here it is:
I tried the demo version from Steam.
Graphics are good, the main menu looks good, and the game runs good as well. However, gameplay is too boring: create a portal here, move a box there, proceed into the next test chamber, repeat until the demo ends. Computer voice is annoying. Constant voice distortion effects are also annoying. Some sounds, models and textures are reused from Half-Life 2. And there is an elevator glitch (google it) instead of generic "That's all folks! Please, buy the full version if you like this game!" message. Sorry, but I won't buy it.
See? There is NOTHING offensive in my review, just my opinion.
