An excellent macro-insight into running a railroad empire. Simple to learn, completely absorbing, ultimately challenging.
  2. Rails Across America's many weaknesses certainly don't totally dampen the fun of racing to see who can outbuild the competition.

The game seems to be addictive and at least passably fun while in the middle of it, but I can't really say that I ever got excited playing it, or ever really looked forward to playing it when I was off doing other things.
  4. It definitely has a strong boardgame feel, although it's not as hands-on as the popular "crayola rail" games, nor as addictive as the recently released "Monopoly Tycoon."
  5. It has truly original game mechanics, sharp artwork, an exciting multiplayer dynamic, an addictive quality, and enough flexibility to keep you coming back for more.
  6. One of the most compulsively playable strategy games of the year, both online and off...Simplicity is the main ingredient that makes RAA so enjoyable.
  7. If you ignore the sub-par audiovisual effects, you will find a decent and engrossing intellectual challenge underneath it all, which particularly exciting in human-to-human competition.

One of the best-designed games to come along in years. [Jan 2002, p.115]

Single player is fun, but multiplayer is truly amazing. If you fall behind at the beginning, you can switch your strategy and come from behind to win. What's even better is that I can play two complete games in a night with my friends! Full Review »
