0At first look (like in the demo for example) Razor 2 looks like a small treasure. Good graphics, lots of options to upgrade your ship with cash you earn from your missions. If you buy and get to really play though, it only takes a few minutes to realize it's not really a great game, especially that it is NOT a casual game (like it is advertised as on Steam).
Even on easy it just fills the screen with basically that many bullets you can't dodge anymore (there's no place left big enough to place your ship without touching them), it's got a perma-death mechanic (you get one continue if your lives run out, second time around the pilot is done for and you need to start back at mission one), secondary weapons aren't bought, just ammo for them (so if the ammos gone, the weapons gone), and equipment has no resale value and no trade-in-value. You can't save, so you basically need to sstart from scratch every time you launch the game, which makes playing it casually if you got a spare minute rather pointless. It also completely robs the upgrade buying of any value. Why try to get better upgrades? They'll all be gone the next time you play anyway. There is absolutely NO persistence, the only thing to play for is a highscore. I know, thats old school and retro and stuff, but it does absolutely NOT work with a ship you upgrade in-between levels with earned cash.
Shame, it looked really nice from the demo. Now I regret every cent spend on this game bitterly, even if it wasn't very much. If you can get it for 20 ct max, buy, else, stay away. I'd rather take hours of the crappy graphics and good gameplay of Tyrian or Raptor than this game, which looses all fun as soon as you figure out how the progression works.… Expand
