The move to complete 3D freedom of movement and real-time environments adds a whole new dimension to the game, and finally makes it feel like it is a game rather than simply a series of static images and mental puzzles.
RealMYST really is a great game. If you enjoyed the original, you'll be transfixed by how the worlds have changed yet stayed eerily the same.
It is really the same old fable of greed and evil and hope and redemption wearing a fancy new dress and the latest shade of Revlon lipstick.
The newly enhanced graphics and sound, coupled with the new age, may be reason for some to revisit the land of Myst, but the overall effect is one of "been there, done that."
What keeps realMYST from earning the high honors is the problematic control system that makes clicking on the right areas difficult; especially the much darker nature of the environment at night, making navigation quite hellish and the solving of puzzles relatively impossible.
This "directors' cut" version turns a bad game into a horrible one, thanks to an uncomfortable control system and bad framerates.
