Red Eclipse works well as a fun shooter that is a great non serious option for a multiplayer shooter. It is very much in the Unreal Tournament vein of games. There are a good amount of types of match ranging from team death match; free for all; capture; etc. There are also a good amount of guns to choose from to tailor it to your style. At first I was unhappy that you can only carry two weapons at once plus your side arm but I grew to not mind and fail to find a reason to be angry at it much. You can pick up other guns during a match if you want to replace one. There are a good amount of maps to play on as well. They felt big enough to not be crowded but not too big that you can’t find people. The game markets it’s parkour action but to be quite honest you can play it without it if you choose. I was also happy to find the game has single player bot matches for those who want to play alone. It also has LAN play to go with online and single player options. You can literally play it pretty much how you want to. The graphics are decent overall but I can’t say very well optimized. I can’t point to a part of the visuals that stunned me nor can I say they’re the worst I have seen. Despite this the game could get down to the low sixties for frame rate and never crack 100 FPS when maxed out. The guns could have used more impact as well as they all felt a bit weak. I don’t mean by damage caused but by a combination of sound effects and environment damage. That was another thing that the game lacked as after shooting up a room it doesn’t really look or feel like a firefight happened.
I played Red Eclipse on Linux. It never crashed and I didn’t notice any bugs or glitches. There are fifteen graphics settings; four AA settings as well as four types of AA; a v-sync toggle; and three FOV options that range from 90-150. This was easily one of the best options menus I have seen and should be applauded. Alt-tab didn’t work.
Game Engine: Cube 2 Engine
Graphics API: OpenGL
Disk Space Used: 1.01 GB
Game Version Played: 2.0.0
Graphics Settings Used: All Highest; 100% render; 16x AA; v-sync on; 100 FOV

VRAM Usage: 2620-2745 MB
CPU Usage: 3-6 %
RAM Usage: 3.1 GB

Red Eclipse is a great game to play with friends or solo. It has a ton of options so should have something for everyone. It is also a FOSS game so it can be continue to be improved by anyone who wishes to contribute. It is available free of charge and works on a variety of platforms so I would recommend you give it try.

This is the worst pile of garbage I've ever played. Damn you to Hell, Phil Corso, for making me play it. I dislike the entire feature set, the presentation, and the user interface. Do not play this trash.
