100If you haven't already picked up this surprise summer hit for console, the PC version offers enough content at an excellent price to make this a purchase you definitely won't regret.
-
84Guerrilla re-makes the Red Faction Franchise translating it to the Sandbox genre. A successful action videogame, and a brilliant lesson about how to achieve different objectives with a conventional field.
-
85A huge open world, addictive gameplay, varied multiplayer settings and entertaining graphics create a game that many action lovers will enjoy for hours. Don’t come looking for depth, since that’s not the game’s goal. Red Faction: Guerrilla gives you death and carnage to your heart’s delight.
-
Geo-Mod 2.0, were it to fall into talented hands, could have given birth to a puzzle game not unlike Portal. For the sight of a high-rise building collapsing under its weight is the only thing that doesn’t get stale in Guerrilla. It’s entertaining even when feeble story and miles of boring rocky landscapes are firmly stuck in your throat and the sand from “sandbox” crunches under your teeth.
-
80The sheer volume of things to do and blow up is unrivalled, and the Geo-Mod engine spoils me so much that I don't think I'll be able to play another action game without expecting a similar, if not better use of physical destruction.
-
79I've found it difficult to fully enjoy the PC version of Guerrilla because its highly variable frame rate severely hurts the controls and fun factor.
-
70Guerrilla is fun, until you make a terrible discovery: it’s pretty easy.
-
85The best in-game destruction ever can't make up for a few major shortcomings, but when a game is built to blow up buildings, it's hard to find much fault when it does that so well. You'll definitely overlook the shortcomings and focus on what this game does well instead.
-
92After being released on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 back in June, we are glad to see that the same greatness and fun has been brought to the PC version. Plus, all the premium content released for the consoles versions is being offered here for free Being priced $40, the PC version is certainly a very good deal.
-
75The transition to PC hasn't been without problems, but Red Faction: Guerrilla still represents an enjoyable experience for those looking to expand their shooter library.
-
100If there's one thing Guerrilla has plenty of, it's content.
-
82The PC port cannot surpass the console version. Though we get the DLCs included and the graphics are better, the slight bugs and the hardware power required turn the tide in favor of the console version.
-
85This third-person action game is a great open-world adventure for anyone with an appetite for destruction.
-
90Despite its lackluster storytelling, Red Faction: Guerrilla is a whole lot of fun to play, thanks to its meaty campaign and well-rounded multiplayer offerings.
-
83We don't know how many houses, blockades and towers we've destroyed while playing the game, but it never got boring. If the game had a much better story, it would have been a huge hit. But it's still a very good game.
-
83Red Faction Guerrilla is a really good action game with an enormous multiplayer mode. The sound effects aren’t that smashing, but the explosive graphic effects are absolutely bombastic!
-
80As I said at the end of the console review, while the game may not do everything right, it's your best bet for free-form demolition and unpretentious entertainment.
-
Red Faction: Guerrilla is a sandbox game in its purest form. Watching giant structures collapse is an absolute thrill, and although the characters and their backgrounds aren't very compelling, the awesome weapons and great amount of side missions will take players on a path of destruction for hours to come.
-
A very nice package makes Red Faction: Guerrilla a good porting of a good console game.
-
88Low-end environmental destruction meets high-end global game world with sizzling results. [Nov 2009, p.94]
-
88The pacing is damned smart, the difficulty curve pitch perfect. [Nov 2009, p.92]
-
60Really only compelling for folks who keep their gaming world PC-pure. Otherwise, pick this up on the console of your choice. [Dec 2009, p.66]
-
73The joy of breaking things apart with giant hammers really is enough to prop up any amount of dull shooting. [Oct 2009, p.58]
-
While it’s true some of the tasks open to you in Red Faction: Guerrilla can feel a little repetitious, even laborious, they’re vastly outweighed by the sheer fun you can have taking the land and EDF apart.
-
80Surprisingly, it has a lot of life to it. For a game built largely around the “blow sh.t up” gimmick, you’d expect it to lose steam after a few hours, but Guerrilla stays entertaining through most of the game, only tapering slightly toward the conclusion.
-
Saved from relative mediocrity and propelled into the limelight by incredibly realised physics. [Issue#24, p.52]
-
Red Faction delivers what an action gamer wants.
-
90Had Red Faction Guerrilla's campaign been at a consistent high throughout we might have had a real game of the year contender on our hands.
-
There's no getting around some of the technical and interface hiccups with Red Faction: Guerrilla, but if you can deal with the shortcomings, this really is a fun game.
