  1. I don't know if it's a classic - only time can tell if Runaway deserves a place alongside the timeless - but this is the one of the most balanced and enjoyable adventures of these last years.
  2. In a day and age where storyline is always key, Runaway: A Road Adventure delivers a golden gameplay experience.
  3. There's no way around it: Runaway is an instant classic, and an absolute must-own for all adventure game fans.
  4. Filled with crazy characters from zany drag queens to menacing mafia men, the story line is definitely fun and entertaining.
  5. Runaway is the best adventure game out right now, and my early nominee of the best adventure game this year.
  6. If you are a fan of adventure games and only want to buy one game this year, I would certainly suggest Runaway: A Road Adventure.
  7. The score reflects more the quality of the engine rather than the gameplay, but I liked the game well enough, and there is such a dearth of other adventures out there, that it’s a game worth owning if you enjoy the genre.
  8. Appealing, entertaining and with high production values, Runaway: A Road Adventure is a successful game that you will not be able to resist.
  9. The art work is expressive, full of life and it does wonders for the in-game atmosphere, and the music is just as good.
  10. On the visual front, everything about Runaway: A Road Adventure screams style. Rather than going with pre-rendered backdrops and stiff CG animated characters, Runaway instead gives us beautifully detailed cartoon landscapes populated with very animated, and believable 2D and 3D characters.
  11. Runaway is a light-hearted romp with some genuinely humorous moments. My biggest disappointment was that Gina had no real role other than to look appealing and need rescuing.
  12. Brings the adventure much needed color and style; but in the end it succumbs to the same faults as other games before it.
  13. It has pretty much everything you'd want out of a solid adventure experience, like diverse settings, a good storyline, wacky characters, and lots of complex puzzles.
  14. The environments are lushly vivid, featuring top-notch hand-drawn art, and the puzzles can be maddeningly complex, so if you're looking for a solid adventure title, Runaway is the way to go. [Nov 2003, p.96]
  15. Great characters, decently designed puzzles, and nifty graphics. [Nov 2003, p.175]
  16. A great-looking game, and can be very relaxing to play, but the illogical puzzles and sparse, uninteresting plot leave it feeling rather flat.
  17. Some of the puzzle solutions...are frustratingly hint-free and unintuitive. [Holiday 2003, p.109]
  18. I don't know why we are subjected to an endless barrage of these kinds of games being fobbed off on us in some kind of misguided effort to turn back the hands of time, gaming-wise.
  19. The bimbo of graphic adventure games: both pretty and stupid... When the puzzle solutions aren't illogical, they're horrifically repetitive. [Dec 2003, p.129]

  1. If you're partial to a cinematic experience than 'Runaway: A Road Adventure' might just be up your alley. Although on first glances it seems like a standard point and click adventure game, you'll find out that it has a completely different individual element to it that is a rarity in modern day titles. A distinctive charm if you will. The combination of 2D and 3D graphics is neat but alas the characters themselves aren't that interesting. The music is gorgeous but the main story itself is rather weak which is disappointing as it had so much potential. Full Review »

This game sucks and I think the positive reviews are from shills. I like these kind of adventures, but the characters are annoying and the puzzles are stupid. This is a real letdown compared to something from Lucasarts. I feel ripped off. Full Review »
  3. There are so many things I dislike about this game. Actually, everything about this game falls under the dislike subheading. So here we go, lets list some problems!

    Cons
-The characters are uninteresting and the relationship between the two main characters is unrealistic. Basically in the beginning of the game your guy runs over a lady who is being hunted by the mafia and you must help her on her journey. What really bothers me is she always pulls the "oh, so you're just going to leave me? Some guy you are" routine and he should yell "LADY, I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU!!" but he never does. Why? Boobs. She has nice boobs. And sultry voice. Sultry yet annoying. Like a lady obviously trying to use the power of boobs to get what she wants. I hate her for being this type of person and I hate him for being stupid enough to go along with it. -Gameplay... is annoying. Being that this is a point and click adventure you have to pick up lots of things off the ground. However it's extremely hard to distinguish what is an option to picked up and what is merely the background. This makes you have to finely go over every screen with your mouse. I've done this and still got stuck and had to refer to a walk-through. It turns out I missed an item I was supposed to pick up. This happens all the time! The logic to most of the puzzles....is sometimes far-fetched. Something I could get over if everything else didn't suck so much.
-The lip syncing is terrible but that doesn't really bother me so much.

    Positives:
-I've heard people say they liked the soundtrack. I guess. Sure.
    -The graphic style is ok.
-All the "ethnic" people are just stereotypes. Which is hilarious. For awhile.
