  1. Wolfpack's idea of a MMORPG is unique and wonderful, and in some areas they delivered perfectly; in others, the delivery was a big letdown.
  2. A game for the serious online player who’s willing to pay for a monthly fee to adventure in what is the most detailed (virtual world) game on the market right now.
  3. Has the most ambitious plan for post-treadmill play of any MMORPG released to date. [July 2003, p.71]

If the idea of politics, sieges and large-scale warfare in your MMORPG appeal to you, and you're willing to wait out the stability and lag issues, Shadowbane may be just the game you're looking for.
  5. Shadowbane has jolted much-needed new life into the massively multiplayer genre - a genre that was showing every sign of being drowned in a flood of derivative games. It's a brave attempt at something new, and it succeeds. [July 2003, p.70]
  6. The replay value is off the map. There is something so cool about playing characters controlled by living, breathing humans. If you haven't tried a persistent online RPG, you're in for an incredible experience.
  7. There's no denying that when you find a good group and you're fighting, chatting, and gaining levels, Shadowbane is at least as good as "EverQuest" and Dark Age of Camelot.
  8. Its innovation definitely injects a shot of adrenaline into a genre that desperately needed it. [June 2003, p.78]
  9. Disappointing. Not for newbies or those looking to jump into established worlds.
  10. 73
It's not great by any means, but it does provide one of the most satisfactory Player vs. Player experiences of any current online world.
  11. In Shadowbane, the players get to remap the world, and that's something that just hasn't been done before. It's a significant achievement, and an engrossing gameplay experience that should be applauded, albeit cautiously.
  12. The player guild experience is the Shadowbane experience. Get involved with a good one and depth of gameplay becomes clear. Get involved with a bad one and you'll never get past the same old monster farming you've seen before. [July 2003, p.68]
  13. The combat and chat systems seem to be adequate, and the experience apparatus will satiate the level-hounds out there; but all told, Shadowbane is decidedly average. [June 2003, p.117]
  14. 60
The game looks and feels dated. The colors are drab, and the world lacks character. Nothing here looks state of the art, yet the system requirements are quite high.
  15. The lag alone could ruin any online gamer's experience, and with such a complicated interface, it's not a game anybody can pick up and play with ease.
  16. While it’s simple and easy to get into, Shadowbane seriously lacks the depth and long term appeal of titles like "EverQuest" and "Star Wars Galaxies."

This game is just another crappily slapped together sandwitch of sh.t. This doesn't even deserve a 1. I haven't met anyone This game is just another crappily slapped together sandwitch of sh.t. This doesn't even deserve a 1. I haven't met anyone who's been able to keep the game running stable for more than half-an-hour without the game crashing so hard a complete "flip-power-switch" ordeal was needed. Seriously, if you ever manage to get it to work, this crap is practially unplayable due to the lag. Save your money. Go get ANYTHING besides this. I should make my own crappy pc games, slap a nice label on them, a little high-budget promo from a big company, and then release a 10% complete pile of crap. Teachers always tell us that we should always complete our work. Guess these idiots flunked high school or some crap and got their friends-in-high-places to give them their jobs. Don't bother with this crappy game. Full Review »
